So I managed to get killed by the roller coaster as a survivor today.
While running up the first incline our team got charged and it propelled me up onto the upper level (the part that crosses over where you start the event). As I'm getting up I'm thinking "Hey, that's cool, it saved me a bunch of time!" and then all of a sudden the coaster enters from off screen.
So there's an interview with Chet where he talks about how the team had a bunch of ideas for the Passing regarding the story, like Ellis falling in love with Zoey at first site and Nick fighting with Francis. So instead of trying to come up with one story they went with about 30.

I love how even though they added spawning to finales you can still cheese the Dark Carnival finale up in the stands since it won't let you spawn in that cubby.

I wonder if they'll change it so that infected can spawn at certain points whether or not the survivors are nearby.
I really like Nick as a character. Once you know he's an escaped convict it colours his dialogue brilliantly and freshens it all over again.
When do you find this out? Ive played through every campaign as Nick and never heard this.
I miss so much conversation. When Im playing with my friends we're usually talking over them, and when I play solo I guess I dont linger long enough to get them to start talking.

In the commentary for Left 4 Dead 2, the developers stated that Nick's character was originally an escaped prisoner that stole a nice suit, but he was eventually adapted into his current con man persona. It is probable that he is still a convicted felon, as Nick can make a remark to the effect that the government has not granted him legal allowance to own firearms - an American only loses his/her right to possess a firearm if someone has convicted that person of a felony, or some severe misdemeanors.

In the first game, you could find dialogue triggers in various remote corners: In Dead Air for example there's a wall of bags off the luggage conveyor belt and if you walk up to it (at least Zoey) makes a comment about it.
I can't remind myself of any such small topical remarks in L4D2.
We can't for the life of us get a reliable, repeatable routine on the gauntlet event in Dark Carnival 4, that shit overwhelms us almost every time right at the end. We can at least fairly regularly get to the last curve in a controlled fashion: Three peeps make a crouched advance while the fourth covers the overhead angle and the rear, but that last straight line for the door is fucking SI bonanza and the commons have an almost 360* avenue of attack. We theorized that backing up against the wall in the far corner of the final curve should provide good fire cover for one or two people to slip into the safe room but never had the chance of trying it out properly.
At least the Hard Rain 2 event is a breeze hiding in the nearby trailer closet, given you're quick in taking out the spitters. 2 survivors alive is well enough.
Seems to me you can skip hitting the end trigger for that even and shoot straight to the safe room, the trigger doesn't even stop the zombies for like 4 minutes anyway.

Nah, that's the second map. The area with the trigger has plenty of corners to camp out in, so that's relatively harmless. Running straight for the door with lots of commons around you is more dangerous imo.
edit: The thing about the map 4 event is that we haven't found an effective strategy for the last stretch; You'll just have to pray you're lucky as all fuck and make it in one out of every four-five tries.
Dark Carnival 4 is the stadium gate, not the roller-coaster. There is no off switch, just the safe room door.
The easiest way to handle it would be to bring along a bile bomb and use it to saturate the horde limit, so you only have to deal with the Special Infected (though if you still take too long, you're doubly screwed as now you have a horde coming at you from behind). The only problem with this approach is that the only time you're likely to see any bile bombs would be all the way back on the Motel map, so you're going to need to carry it all the way.
Without a bile bomb, you'll need to either use carefully timed pipe bombs (multiple, one isn't enough) or a poor man's bile bomb: pick a guy, give him a melee weapon, have him get boomed and hide in a corner. He might not survive, but you're at the point where you just want to get to the next map. The AI Boomers have a tendency to hide just to the left as you go past the gates, so this approach can be reliably used if you let the Boomer survive the walk down the alley before hitting the switch.
Two things to note: the Common Infected spawn behind the large column outside the safe room, and the Special Infected spawn inside the safe room. Get one person to the safe room and he stops all Common from spawning there, so it can be worth risking an all-out rush if circumstances permit. Safest way of dealing with Special Infected in the safe room is to close the door and shoot through it, particularly if it's something like a Charger or Witch (yes, you may see a Witch in the safe room).
One thing I haven't tried before is a Molotov down the right side; I think if you throw one into the corner opposite the safe room entrance, you should be able to light up any new Common Infected without preventing you from entering the safe room. It'd be a tight squeeze, though.
Oddly enough usually not have any trouble on DK4 on both campaign and versus (well, the latter varies).
While the gates open we're at the ammo spot, covering all corners (the one 'behind' left is a popular infected spawn spot), getting through the gates right as they open, throwing pipes if we have them in front of us and mollies behind as we pass. 1 or two in front axing the shit out of everything, though regularly making sure everyone no one got smoked. The usual.
Though I definitely remember how screwed over we used to get in DK3 (CHARGGGGERS) while others didn't experience much trouble there.
I don't remember a whole lot from last nights game but I do remember it was fun and Asiina left in the first match
I liked when that one guy that replaced her just kept swinging his bat at a couple commons rather than turning around and saving all of us. And when he finally did, he only saved you two at the top of stairs. And while the smoker is choking me to death, rather than pulling out his gun and saving me in .5 seconds, he starts to pick you up. So when we try to tell him to come save me first(we'd been telling him to turn around the entire time he was killing commons), he stops picking you up, types out "fuck you", and ragequits.
Ok, so I've been running a HTPC in my living room to stream media off for a while when it dawned on me it'd make a pretty good gaming machine. One HD 5750 later and I can now play L4D2 in 1080p with everything turned up. This might not mean much to most people but the last time I had a pc capable of gaming was back in the Quake 1 era. In fact that was the last PC FPS I played.
So I'm happy as a pig in shit that I can finally play Left 4 Dead 2, on a 42" Plasma through a 7.1 amp no less.
However I suck. I really really suck. I've not played any pc games in years and I'm just getting to grips with mouse/keyboard again. I've never used steam, i've never used a headset on a pc and I'm well and truly hopeless.
And with that in mind I've been playing through the single player campaign a bit to try and get some practice in, however I'm craving some multiplayer fun. Are there any kind hearted people out there who'd be nice enough to play with me and NOT get angry when they turn around to see me spinning aimlessly or running staring at the floor?
Hints/tips/advice to stop me sucking are welcome. Also hints/tips/advice about headsets, Steam and getting back in to the world of PC Gaming are also welcome (though I realise there's the Steam thread for that!).
Get a headset. If you want a quality headset that isn't horrifically expensive, get the Microsoft LX-(2? 3?)000 lifechat headset for 30 bucks. It has noise cancelling headphones, an external volume control and mute button, and will last a good long while. It's USB though, but that shouldn't be an issue as most modern computers have like eight thousand USB ports.
The number one skill in L4D1/2 is really just situational awareness. If you have a good sense of space and direction and know where your teammates are and potential lanes of infected attack (ie "okay a hunter can jump off the roof, a smoker might be behind that corner, a boomer can pop out of that cargo container") then you pretty much have 90% of the game covered. Traditional fps 'skills' of aim and twitch reflex and bunnyhopping and etc don't really apply here; it's mostly using your head and knowing your surroundings.

So I saw where those Canadians tripped each other up at the Olympics, which kinda in a way reminds me of this once time when we were in Keith's car taking his little sister to the mall, course she wasn't really little bein as she was six foot seven, but she's 3 years younger than Keith so she aint getting away from that title any time soon.
But anyway we were driving there, and we had just got this car running from the scrap yard, and it never occurred to us to check an see if the back doors would lock when shut. So we're doin like 30 and Keith takes a corner, side door pops open and she's flung straight into the ditch.
She landed in some mud though and wasn't hurt too bad, but we were blairin music so we didn't hear nothin. About 3 miles down the road we look back and she's just GONE! Man Keith started freaking out though, thinking the ghost got her for him not having enough money for beer or something. She still gets all types of angry when we bring up that story.

I find a lot of people in the L4D games are too intense. Most of my playtime is spent with bots, and bots are the worst possible player you can have on your team, so that's saying something. It's the kind of game where pulling weight is pretty essential and many of the bros in multiplayer get frustrated when they do something right and someone else doesn't, whether it's inexperience, the situation, or just a lapse in judgement. People aren't very understanding when they're being pounded into the floor.
So I only like to play with easygoing folks who don't really care about the outcome of the game. Feel free to add me as a steam friend and if the scenario comes up, we can fill out some nice guy servers.
Be prepared to suck a lot when you play as infected. There's no focused practice like there is in being a survivor. Wide range of roles with very sensitive limitations and reliance on the situation. If someone gets mad at you don't worry about it, they're a stupid fucker.
It would be pretty sweet if they had a standing mapping crew, churning out campaigns, but I suspect Valve only want to release full servings of the whole enchilada; Voice acting, achievements etc, thus requiring a whole lot more production than just a few people and the Hammer editor
Re: Hammmer, by the way: They really should make that thing more accessible! Have some "randomize simple terrain/corridors" functions and, for the love of god, a more browseable library of props. I was surpised of how much is done with prerendered models these days compared to the olde seasons of HL1 editing; Unfortunately this rich supply of entities and milieus is very labyrinthine and time-consuming to prospect.
As it stands now, only a handful of people in the world have had the time and schutzpah to get into Hammer properly and released content for the L4D's that is actually decent. A change to that would be most welcome.

I can also only assume they are waiting till the passing is released to put the 360 patch out.
Last night I had one of the most epic matches on Scavenger. We played this team that was pretty well organized. They beat us at first on the Mall Atrium in a 5 round match. On my team it was a friend and I plus two other randoms who were pretty good. The funny thing is, nearly every round we tied with the other team and the win came down to time. The other team really knew how to move the cans and their coverage of one another was excellent. It seemed like a least one of them always had a gas can.
Motel was the best though because we both got all 16 cans on the 1st two rounds. On round 1 they played as survivors first. When they got all the cans, my team was pretty mad and insisted on doing the pipe bomb/billboard trick, but I talked them out of it and insisted that we win straight up. We did, and the next round they tried do the trick themeselves but failed horribly which was a mistake because my friend can nail it 90% of the time. So we win again and now we're up 2-0. The final round we stopped them short at 12 cans which made them rage quit after that. My hat goes off to them though, they were good.
Also, they need to patch the pipebomb glitch already. It doesn't necessarily guarantee a win, but it does shave time off the clock. I will miss it though on matches where the other team scores 0 and a well placed pipe bomb lands a can right at your feet to win the match in 3 seconds. Hey, if you get 0 you deserve it!
