The things that infuriate me the most are people running in front of me as I shoot ...
Thankfully Valve has reduced the likelihood of that happening by keeping out any close quarters weapons like melee aw shit.
At least the bots stay ducked if they decide to dig in, in front of the rest of you if they have a melle weapon and you and the rest are shooting. Sure they aren't perfect, I've had them just stare at me when I'm being choked by a smoker and you lose the ability to have your companions ue defibrilators, throwables and other items, but they do a good job as bodyguards.
I wiped a team of pub humans with my team of bot infected. It was Swamp Fever, the map with the boat and log shortly after the start. They didn't make it far past the opening of that narrow path after the boat. They, of course, rage quit afterward.
I really wish that they put some AI options in the games ala Dragon age.
1. My fellow trusty companions from my list of friends will join me.
2. I shall look for able warriors in ye Armadeaddon Tavern.
3. I have no intention of reaching my destination alive at all and would rather shout at random drunk teenagers as they test the very limits of my patience.
4. Empty suits of armor will accompany me and I shall pretend they're of any use at all.
Anyone got a reliable way of beating the Swamp's crochendo event in the shanty town on expert when you lower the bridge? I can't find a place to hold out since the shacks are breakable and the infected pour over every fence. should I just run for it over the bridge a soon as it lowers and hope for the best?
And I'm very amused that the fact a hoarde attacked me as 'All we want to do is eat your brains' played on an ingame jukebox wasn't just a delightful co-incidence. It actually attracts a hoarde when the line 'You're all gonna die screaming' plays according to the L4D wiki
Your AI options are playing with dumb ones or playing with your friends. The choice is easy to make.
I dunno, the bots are actually better than a surprising number of players...
The things that infuriate me the most are people running in front of me as I shoot and in turn, when people shoot me. Thankfully the bots can't cause freindly fire and are always behind me unless they spy a health pack/pills. I like the predictability of them too.
Bots do tend to run into my line of fire, but that's probably in part due to my erratic movement and firing. They can in fact deal friendly fire damage now though, if you run into a melee swing.
They are by far easier to herd around than pub players, and it is nice to be able to save your health kit by letting your neighborhood bot heal you instead.

It's been a while since I've done that crescendo on Expert, but if you bring a bile bomb you can just about make it all the way to the safe room before it wears off (maybe 3/5 of the way if you're limping). Alternatively, trigger the event and retreat backwards in the map - you'll have a much more favorable defensive position, and the way the Infected spawning works means they'll clump up more.

Bots costed me the "no one causes friendly fire" achievement from the first game.
That's because the achievement tracks whether or not a teammate was shot, not whether or not any damage was taken. Bots are simply hard-coded to not deal damage when they shoot a teammate.

It's 3 every time for me. Nothing is better than yelling at people over the internet, who probably don't give a shit at all about why you are yelling at them.
After playing L4D2 extensivley for the past week, singleplayer and going through the entire game on advanced with a freind in splitscreen, I still say I prefer L4D (this opinion is from the singleplayer campaign and co-op play with both games, not factoring in vs mode).
I really like what they have done with 2, the new mechanics, guns, characters, locales, music, etc are all great and it's a fantastic game, but I can't see myself playing it as much as L4D. Granted L4D was a completley new experience when I first played it and I loved it, but 2 doesn't have the atmosphere 1 has. There are some fantastic setpeices and atmospheric moments in L4D2, like the rainstorms in the Hard Rain campaign and the finales are much more fun than L4D, but it hasn't got the same reaction out of me L4D has.
True, 2 isn't meant to be a scary game/horror movie like L4D was and I really like what they have done with it, but it's more of a fun, actiony, silly zombie killing romp (Dead Rising) than L4D (Resident Evil ReMake) was. For some reason I don't get that shiver in my spine in 2 like I do in 1 when that Tank music starts blaring, or when I hear a moaning witch. Maybe it's because 2 gives you more of a chance to fight back with grenade launchers, a larger array of weapons, defibulator units, speed boosting adreynaline, etc, maybe it's because most of the game is set in the daytime, maybe it's because the developers were going for a more upbeat mood, trying to make the game more fun than scary.
They nailed it in that respect, I've laughed quite a few times playing L4D2 thanks to the goofy characters, seeing the gang crash cars through mall windows, fighting off zombies on a rollercoaster or in the tunnel of love or Eyyylis' amusing stories (seriously, the characters are all great in L4D2, sans Rochelle who just seems a bit bland compared to the rest of the cast), fighting zombies at a rock concert, etc and I've had a great time, but in 5 years I'll be going back to play L4D 1 like I'd re-watch a classic horror movie time and time again.
L4D2 is a fantastic, very fun and excellently designed game and I'll be playing it for many weeks still, but I can see myself replaying L4D every year or so when I'm done altogether with 2. L4D gives me shivers every time I play it thanks to the amazing atmosphere, sound design and classic horror movie vibe it was going for.
Meh, just thought I'd share my thoughts :P
Plus, L4D has the best game intro of all time in my opinion.
Granted I'm the kind of guy who chooses to play L4D solo because playing with other people would ruin the atmosphere for me. I have played it an absolute ton online and had a load of fun playing vs with the PA guys, but I have a really dim view on online gaming these days and hate the general masses of XBL users. Or PC users with headsets.
I treat the L4D games like I treat roguelikes. I play Expert singleplayer a lot and the comparisons are many-
-I get my ass kicked many many times, usually in hilariously over the top/pathetic but amusing ways. Anything really that gives me a laugh.
-Lots of random item/weapon/item placement.
-Dying a lot and facing impossible odds, learning good ways to survive and how not to die/how the game/maps work so each death doesn't feel like a waste of time.
-I'll never beat the entire thing.
-When I do beat a solid chunk of the game or accomplish something that I was sure was going to get me killed it's massivley satisfying.
-As soon as I get near the end of the finale, after figthing impossible odds, clawing my way through the infected and tanks, losing each team member one minute after the other, then limping over to the rescue boat, only to have a smoker wrap it's tounge around Louis' neck, pulling him screaming and flailing into a hoarde of infected, mere ft away from the rescue boat is a pure, unadulterated, awesome, classic horror movie ending
Ok, I have a headset (though it may be a bit crap, I'll have to check it out), I've installed Steam, I've joined Armadeadon and I'm pretty much set to rock. Just getting a bit of practice in on the Single Player first so I don't get lost and die within the first minute.
Not in Armadeaddon I believe. L4D2 is so much better for vs and scavenge.
There's also still that extra mode in The Passing which still needs to get announced - there may be a steam sale around that point when the update hits.
I think the L4D1 intro was well done: in that it did a good job establishing the characters, setting and gameplay mechanics, but it wasn't that interesting for me to rewatch.
The L4D2 intro on the other hand is kickass every time. I would start listing off the shots that are awesome but I would end up basically narrating the whole trailer.

Fuck Left 4 DeadCity II is long, I swear every map is like 3 vanilla maps (not counting the heaps of panic events in every one of them). Pug people started dropping off by the third map because everything went on forever.
Freezer Burn looked pretty well put together tough, solid campaign the buggy elevator aside, too bad there's very little variation in the milieus.

Random drunk people are the best to pub with by far.
If you're in a pub and nobody's drunk, it's not a pub.
Agreed. I don't pub until I reach a certain level of drunkenness. I'll just play something else until then.
Campaign completion time 3.25 hours, and I was the only one making it to the boat :x
So much bullshit on the double tank spawns. All the time.

Come by armadeadon and I'm sure we could get a game set up.

I think you mean L4D2.
I have not... come this far... to die now.
One really awesome short segment instead of a bunch of cool clips.
Though I have watched them both about 50 times.
