VVVVVV comes out on Sunday. It a new 2D platformer by Terry Cavanagh.
He's made a bunch of great games that are free to play (Try "Don't look back"
here), but this is his first commercial release, and it's a much bigger game than what he has previously done.
It is completely DRM free, and available (as of Sunday) for PC/Mac/Linux. It's going to be $15, and there will be a demo.
It is a bit good.

Reviews:
Even so, it would be wrong to let the sheer fiendishness of Cavanagh’s offering overwhelm any appreciation of the ceaseless elegance of the design. In fact, the difficulty and the creative ingenuity work in tandem: the promise of the next piece of cleverness driving you past some of the less lovable challenges, while that challenge itself makes you appreciate the precision and quiet brilliance with which the whole thing has been pieced together. Brutal and rather short, VVVVVV’s also devious and darkly funny. It’s a pedantic classic, and a game for watch-makers as much as speed-runners
VVVVVV achieves visual beauty with as few pixels as necessary....there are more ideas here than most 10 hour+ games.
from start to finish, Terry Cavanagh’s VVVVVV is a shining example of how to blend simplicity, polish, difficulty and excellence in a nicely packaged product. VVVVVV shouldn’t be missed.
It's a rather excellent game, and I was lucky enough to meet Terry at the Eurogamer expo, and he's a lovely bloke.

This looks like a job for Joshofalltrades aka THE GUY.
However... this game looks a bit too frustrating for my tastes. :P

It could be frustrating, but checkpoints are litterally everywhere (some screens have like 4 on them), and respawning is near instant.

Edit: Oh, cool - I just realized why it's named VVVVVV.

Simple techno? That's a SID chip, you insensitive clod!
Also, makes me think of Monty on the Run and its awesome music.

Nintendo should hire this guy for SMG3.
Did some other game use this music? Because oh my god I know this music and I love it but I've never played this game.
Oh god, I just happened upon the thread when the title made me curious.
I pretty much have to, don't I?
FUCK
edit All of this talk about chiptunes made me fire up Seiklus again...
I'm participating in the backlog challenge though, so it will probably be a while before I play it
I'm not allowed to spend money just now
I Wanna Be The Guy stole it.
It was highly appropriate music for the final castle stage.

The soundtrack is available for $4, too.
After one hour of play I get the impression there's a lot of game here, and it's all neon beautiful
Control feels razor-sharp which is perfect because some parts are hard as balls
Music is perfect
