VVVVVV - Out now.

VVVVVV comes out on Sunday. It a new 2D platformer by Terry Cavanagh.

He's made a bunch of great games that are free to play (Try "Don't look back" here), but this is his first commercial release, and it's a much bigger game than what he has previously done.

It is completely DRM free, and available (as of Sunday) for PC/Mac/Linux. It's going to be $15, and there will be a demo.

It is a bit good.

Trailer

Reviews:
Even so, it would be wrong to let the sheer fiendishness of Cavanagh’s offering overwhelm any appreciation of the ceaseless elegance of the design. In fact, the difficulty and the creative ingenuity work in tandem: the promise of the next piece of cleverness driving you past some of the less lovable challenges, while that challenge itself makes you appreciate the precision and quiet brilliance with which the whole thing has been pieced together. Brutal and rather short, VVVVVV’s also devious and darkly funny. It’s a pedantic classic, and a game for watch-makers as much as speed-runners
VVVVVV achieves visual beauty with as few pixels as necessary....there are more ideas here than most 10 hour+ games.
from start to finish, Terry Cavanagh’s VVVVVV is a shining example of how to blend simplicity, polish, difficulty and excellence in a nicely packaged product. VVVVVV shouldn’t be missed.

It's a rather excellent game, and I was lucky enough to meet Terry at the Eurogamer expo, and he's a lovely bloke.

I really liked Don't Look Back.

However... this game looks a bit too frustrating for my tastes. :P

I thought this was a spam thread at first, but the game name is very appropriate, more so than many other games.

It could be frustrating, but checkpoints are litterally everywhere (some screens have like 4 on them), and respawning is near instant.

Wow. As a game designer, I really admire some of the stunts I saw in that YouTube vid. Can't wait to try it, though I have to admit I wish the eyecandy was as satisfying as the earcandy (I have a weakness for simple techno).

Edit: Oh, cool - I just realized why it's named VVVVVV.

OP should change the thread title - pretty sure people are passing the thread because it looks like spam (less than 500 views total).

$15 is a bit steep, but I dig his other games quite a bit and he seems like a great guy judging from this awesome interview with IndieGames.com. I will gladly show my support with my monies.

Doesn't look as mind-cuntingly hard as IWBTG. Not that I'll be any good at it though. I still can't beat the first level in World 8, SMB3.

I really like this genre, but I'm spoiled by games usually being free (albeit they're probably not as good as this one). I like the lo-fi theme in graphics and music, plus the little level name indicator at the bottom of the screen is golden. One thing that bothers me, though, is that some of the tracks/samples used in the music seem too crisp and clear to be real chiptunes. Boooo! Go all the way! :P

edit All of this talk about chiptunes made me fire up Seiklus again...

The demo gave me a jumper vibe; controls were precise enough to nab the secrets in the two levels without too much trouble, but I could see this getting plenty hard. I really don't need to add to my giant backlog of games from the steam sale, but I may have to bite on this one....

I bought it reflexively 'cause I love all his games

After one hour of play I get the impression there's a lot of game here, and it's all neon beautiful

Control feels razor-sharp which is perfect because some parts are hard as balls

    Music is perfect
