Clearwire, I mean CLEAR issues

So I have my new CLEAR modem and for a while things were good, very good, highly satisfied with the service. However, now that I have quit work and I am home a bit more, I am seeing the service drop in and out and hover at 2 bars. A lot of the time, i have to reset the modem and try to get a better signal. The oddest part is that this usually happens as night falls, I get decent coverage during the day but as soon as teh sun sets, I am dropping out.
I know a lot of people on these boards are going to say that that is the way of wireless but I had 4 or 5 bars at this exact same spot on my bookshelf not to long ago.
The only change in the past few weeks has been the weather getting colder, which could account for that. Anyway, I loath to get on the phone with tech support and really would like some advice or if there is some sort of fix I could check into to get something better because I know CLEAR is capable of better, I have seen it, I just don't know what's going on right now.
