I have an Altec Lansing 2.1 set of speakers (link to spec sheet PDF). Sometimes, the sound on the right speaker cuts out. The way I go about fixing this is plugging a set of headphones in the jack on the speakers and then removing them (may take a few tries, but the right speaker comes back on.) I think there's probably something in the jack, or it's dirty, or something. Anyway, I think I should clean the jack. Anyone know how to go about doing this. Google came up with a page that said to clean the jack using a dental brush (used for cleaning braces) and isopropyl alcohol. Is this safe? Help!
alcohol always seems to do the trick for me for electronics things. 10 minutes is already more than enough, imo.
if you do buy rubbing alcohol, go for the 90% alcohol stuff instead of the more commonly sold 70% concentration. the higher concentration of alcohol should ensure that the alcohol solution evaporates more quickly.
i suppose if you're really paranoid you could wait an hour after cleaning. a whole day is not necessary at all.

The reason alcohol is used for cleaning is because it evaporates. As long as the speaker isn't plugged in, it shouldn't short anything out.
Wait for someone else to weigh in, just to be sure.
