How are you supposed to put anything up against Deus Ex is beyond me.
even if you judged Deus Ex by the standards of today's game it'd be a great game, judging it by the standards of the games of its era (which I assume is what we're meant to do in determining the game of the decade), it was staggering.
There are Nintendo 64 games on that list. That's ridiculous. It seems so long ago.
I loved Splinter Cell Chaos Theory online. I loved MGS3's single player. Smash Bros. Melee was phenomenal. The game that impacted me most was Delta Force: Black Hawk Down or even Joint Operations, but those are pretty niche games.
I literally cannot vote, there are too many great games, each with their own pros and cons!

NFL2k5 - The only pro football game I own and sega sports' last. I can be swayed to adding it if I don't get 70 madden requests before tomorrow.
Resident Evil GCN, Metal Gear Twin Snakes, Starcraft 64 - Did not deviate from their pre-2000 source material enough.
I did not miss that, I just said that I accepted the rule that only the first 30 of a year get accepted. If a game came below the first 30 places, how much chance would it make against all the games that came above it? All that would do is clutter the list.
Personal preferences and all then I guess, but I for example nominated Risen, and that's now on the list. It came out at 96 something in this year's GOTY poll, now how many votes will that game get in the end? Well, I don't care, it's a great game an belongs on my GOTD list.
I thought about it some more, and you are right. The prospects of a game don't matter, I think the prize is more a conglomerate of opinions, and for that, I do need Little King's Story.
Luckily, someone else already requested it, less effort for me!

After an enormous, week-long debate with my house mate, I am officially over the whole decade debate. All I can say is there isn't a year 0 AD so work from there.
Also, I've got a good idea of what I want my #1 to be, but my #2? No idea
Hmmmmm, well Deus Ex will always be my favourite game until something can top it, so it will be number one.
Picking the other 24 shouldn't be too bad, top 10 especially because I skimmed down the list and the few games that really caught my eye flashed up memories of playing them, especially stuff like Shadow of the Colossus and Jet Set Radio Future.
As much as quality is a factor in my favourite games, distinct and memorable experiences are what really counts.

My reasoning is thus: No one but pretentious assholes refers to the '90s as 1991-2000 in retrospect. The 90s are referring to all of the years with the word ninety in them. I will give anyone the whole century/millennium argument because I probably won't be alive to argue the next occurrence of either.
While you are technically correct (the best kind of correct) since there was no year 0, popular misuse will remain the standard for this foray.
EDIT: FUCK I didn't nominate VF5 when it would have been in my Top 25 for sure. Oh well, VF4 is a good enough replacement, it was still the best fighting game around until VF5 came out

But if we were using the other decade system, we could have added a veritable cornucopia of gaming from the year 1999. Which would be even worse, and nominations are closed anyway :P
Finding my 25 wasn't as hard as i thought it was going to be, using the "copy/paste the whole list and whittle it down by deleting crap" method, but there were still some pretty tough decisions. I had to consider how influential the game was, how great it was in general, and (most importantly) how much the game embedded itself into my young life.
Now, if I have to rank them, that's gonna be fucking impossible.
EDIT: Actually, looking at my list, I could probably whittle it down to 20. There are definitely a few filler games in there.
Out of the 186 I only found maybe 70 or so worthy, so that was cool. Whittled them down and got to 26...getting rid of that last one was hard, but I had to be truthful to myself: This is my Games of the Decade list, so I'm not going by how well it was received or how influential it was, but rather the time I sunk into it and how much I was completely invested in it.

Going through right now and eliminating everything I haven't played and working from there. This is going to be epic.
So wouldn't the decade of discussion be 2001-2010?
Who cares if there are some people that have decided that's how it goes. Having the decades be 1980-1989, 1990-1999, 2000-2009 and so on makes much more sense.

Picking the other 24 shouldn't be too bad, top 10 especially because I skimmed down the list and the few games that really caught my eye flashed up memories of playing them, especially stuff like Shadow of the Colossus and Jet Set Radio Future.
As much as quality is a factor in my favourite games, distinct and memorable experiences are what really counts.
While you are technically correct (the best kind of correct) since there was no year 0, popular misuse will remain the standard for this foray.

EDIT: FUCK I didn't nominate VF5 when it would have been in my Top 25 for sure. Oh well, VF4 is a good enough replacement, it was still the best fighting game around until VF5 came out
But if we were using the other decade system, we could have added a veritable cornucopia of gaming from the year 1999. Which would be even worse, and nominations are closed anyway :P
Now, if I have to rank them, that's gonna be fucking impossible.
EDIT: Actually, looking at my list, I could probably whittle it down to 20. There are definitely a few filler games in there.

That's pretty much how I went with it. There are critically and publicly adored games that I left off the list because I just didn't try them or play them that much. I think that makes it easier.
Do we actually have to order them? Because damn.
Without even taking a look at the list, I know this will happen to me with Mario (Sunshine, Galaxy, NSMBWii, not even including the kart racers), Zelda (Majora, Wind Waker, Twighlight Princess), Metroid (Prime 1-3, Fusion).
Also going down the list made me realize that I haven't played a Mario Kart since MK64.
