I am surprised that KotOR went higher than KotOR2. I thought people preferred the second, even despite the lack of ending. Oh well.
Really don't dig the list but that's my own tastes and I haven't gotten to play quite a few of the games voted high so I can't really throw my opinion around for much.
But I do love that Gold/Silver/Crystal got best Poke'mon. Still my fav by far.

I thought the general opinion on 2 was that it was an unfinished buggy game
I'm pissed off that two of the top five were devoid-of-atmosphere lewtfests.
Are you really trying to say that Diablo 2 is devoid of atmosphere? Really?
And it's no coincidence that Deus Ex won the first past the post poll by a huge margin. All you people who didn't play it should be ashamed of yourselves.
Nice to see Wind Waker take the crown as best Zelda of the decade as opposed to the vastly overrated Majora's Mask.
You say "best" but do you see how many #1 votes MM got??
Anyway HL2 totally deserves #1. I recommend everyone check out "Raising the Bar" (it's hard to find, I admit) if you want proof of the incredible, incredible volume of work that Valve poured into just one game.

I thought the general opinion on 2 was that it was that, but had a story and characters that pretty much made up for it. But I might be blending my own personal opinions/experiences with what I think the general is, since I just thought the first was pretty forgettable.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance completely smoked A2 : (
Highest Castlevania is Dawn of Sorrow at a sorrowful 218. They probably got hurt a lot by the sameyness of them all. Ecclesia ends up the worst of the DS games. I wonder how much of that is people just getting tired and writing it off. People seemed really mixed on Portrait of Ruin.

I thought Diablo one had great atmosphere but while Diablo 2 had great art design and cutscenes I'm pretty sure the only tension anyone (who wasn't playing on hardcore) felt ever was whether or not Gulldagger was going to drop. A slot machine can't really have atmosphere

While I agree that the original Diablo had a much better atmosphere, Diablo 2 was not a slot machine the first time you played it. It might seem that way now that you've replayed it so many times that your original impressions have been ground to dust, but come on. Come on.

There is no way Diablo II is better than Deus Ex. I know, they're completely different games, but as far as games of 2000 go, Deus Ex should have won that.
Also, 57 people voted Deus Ex number one, only 34 voted HL2 number one, yet somehow that makes HL2 number one? Regardless of who placed HL2 elsewhere, that's a pretty messed up counting system.

man i played heaps of diablo II, it was a great game, and i don't even know what gulldagger is
The three 'if you played it, you loved it' games seem to be Deus Ex, BG2, and Majora's Mask.
HL2 is certainly a 'meh' game for me, but that's a taste thing; it's a good game, and I'm not disappointed to see it win. I think the top 10 games are all very solid, actually. There is, needless to say, a bit drop-off at 11. :P
Diablo II is great, though, mostly because it's an extremely well-realized game. From the tetris mini-game, to the simple combat, it is a game about killing and looting, organizing and typing, and that's awesome.
But I put it in my twenties because that's where it deserves to be, I think.
Deus Ex, I think might have been cool, if Metal Gear hadn't come out like two years before it.
I'm really sad to see KOTOR and Dragon Age so high. I mean, I guess if you like Star Wars books or something, that game might be good in your eyes. I can't talk about Buldar's Gate II because I never played it, but does it read like a fanfiction, too, or might it be something I would like? I really hate Mass Effect, but I like Vampire: Bloodlines and Black Isle's games.
Beck on
Lucas's Franklin Badge reflected the lightning back!
I have vastly different tastes to the rest of the internet it seems. First Past the Post I've played nearly all mentioned and only actually enjoyed:
Shadow of the Colossus
Super Mario Galaxy
Portal
Smash Bros (though I didn't vote for it)
Rock Band
Uncharted 2
Ico
I got burnt out on FPS after Quake and never got back in to them, they just don't hold my attention. Whilst I'm sure games like HL2 are superb, I can't get more than an hour in to them without being bored stiff.
Portal was something different for me, I think being an all out puzzler, with no real "guns" just intrigued me more.
Game of the decade for me was Uncharted 2. It's also the ONLY game my girlfriend has sat down and insisted she watch through to the finish.

Black Isle were involved, at least partly, with Baldur's Gate 2.
So yes. The writing's a lot closer to the Fallout 2/Planescape: Torment standard.
Go and play it.
Playing through Mass Effect again has cemented, for me, how the great parts of that game are just buried under mounds of utter shit. And the fact that it has such great parts just makes the whole experience that much more disappointing to me. I also think it will be rendered completely obsolete once the sequel arrives, so I doubt I would even put it in my top 50 at this point.
Cherrn on
All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
Dissapointed that Deus Ex is only at 6, although it was absent from a lot of peoples lists so I guess they just didn't play it. Much better than Portal and Mass Effect.
Happy that Wind Waker got best Zelda game though, easily my favourite.

It's down to opinion, I played Deus Ex when it was released and hated it, I played Portal and fell instantly in love with the game. They're two completely different beasts, one a puzzle game with charm and a rather black sense of humour, the other is shit.
(I jest).
Oh and about Mario Kart Wii being the worst, I would honestly have placed it above the N64 and Gamecube version but below the SNES. And I think I still love the SNES version so much purely for nostalgic reasons. I've put it on recently and some people are almost made sick by the mode 7.

Shame on you for not agreeing.
Real-time party switching automatically makes it the best FF battle system ever.
Also, being linear worked in its favor. Will the same be said for FFXIII? We'll find out soon.

In fact, Blizzard releases during the decade ranked #2, #4 and #18.
Admittedly I did finish the game because of its battle system but the games story and most of the characters made me feel dirty inside for doing so
Anyway I think I'll just end it there before this turns into another tiresome my FF is better then your FF discussion

I would have nominated Reset Generation if I had thought of it. You can play it in your browser.

I just really liked it.
"Pata, pata, pata pon! Pon, pon pata pon!"
It's a recent game that's about to get a sequel; simply, a lot of people played it and liked it. Sheer number of votes pushed it up.
Makes sense, which is why I usually agree more with the first past the post list when we do these things every year anyway.
