DVR to MBP

So I ordered the miniDV to HDMI cable and now I'll be able to connect my DVR to my MacBook Pro, but now I want to be able to capture that business on my DVR (there are some clips of me on ESPNU I want to save and get rid of my the DVR) but not sure what I need to do. Are there free routes? What are the best pay to play routes?

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you trying to use the HDMI port on your macbook pro to record content played back from your DVR? I don't think it can do that, as it should be a video out. I think you'll need a dedicated video capture device (like this or this).
