Please tell me that hopefully by now they've worked out all the problems and you can update without any real problems.

So what would I expect if I were to update in the very near future?

I remember there being two updates that would happen one after the other a while back. Would it now be four in a row or are some updates optional? (The two from before and now the weather channel and the Opera browser beta = four updates?)

What were the codes that if they appeared basically meant you had to get your system back to Nintendo for a repair? The most prominent one I remember was something like 110***.

Since I'll be using the NWC USB Connector, I'll probably need to use the latest drivers found somewhere on the main NWC site, right? Anything else I should know if something doesn't quite work?

Unless I'm blind, where's the Wii code thread? Or is it a wiki now?

Am I forgetting anything else?

Thanks.

P.S. If true, f**k!

I got a Wii a few days ago and I had no problems.

    I didn't download the browser.

There's pretty much a 0% chance of you getting a wii that needs to be sent back. Just patch it and watch your Wii glow blue when you get new wiimails.

I haven;t had any problems with updating. It seems stable now.

As far as I know, you will need to download each update seperatly. However, unless you decide to then you don't need to download either the Weather Channel or Internet Channel updates, and the Internet Channel comes from the Wii Ware section of the Shop Channel.

Oh, how many updates. There's 2 that I got, and I just got mine today, and then I got the browser, but that's it.

Has anyone else been having trouble connecting to Wii internet lately?

Also, for some reason, ever since I've gotten the Wii, the Wii name in the WFC registration tool is a garbled mess of symbols. And it keeps happening, no matter how many times I reinstall it. Like, I reinstall, and then the name is correct for maybe a day, and then it goes back to looking like someone played around with a keyboard map.

Now, this was happing long before the browser stopped working, but there's a good chance these two things are related.

Hypothetical question: You download the full Opera browser when it becomes available for free and sometime later delete it (assuming it's possible). Months later (when it's $5 or so), you want to get it back again. Would you still be able to get it for free because you were able to do so before (kinda like with the VC games) or will you need to pay up?

As much fun as it would be to do the whole YouTube and "Posting from my Wii!" bit on my TV, I can do both just as well with my computer and so I'm considering to not even bother with the browser at all. I'd just still like to know what my options are.

No, it doesn't matter which channel I go into, just the first one after the console has been off for a while. I've had it happen with loading a game first thing, the Mii channel and the Shop channel. But as soon as it's done loading that channel, I can switch between them all fairly briskly.

A lot of "cannot connect to the internet" errors, even though it is connected? Happened to me. Quick fix, if you haven't done so yet, is to change your wireless channel from 6 (which is the default) to 1 or 11 (which are as far from default you can get). Appently the poor Wii can't handle any interference. Pansy.

Despite the fact that I do not even own a Wii yet... I can help people who are having trouble setting up WiFi on their Wii's.

Wireless interference will fuck with your Wii. To set your wireless to the optimal channel, download NetStumbler. NetStumbler will detect all wireless networks within range, and most importantly tell you what channel they are operating on.

Set your wireless to operate on a channel that is the furthest away from any others operating within range. Take caution using channels 1 through 4, as cordless phones and other wireless devices can cause interference on these lower channels.

I was pretty pumped to surf the web on my 50 inch screen, but then I downloaded the browser.

It actually works pretty well, but it's so damn slow. I tried watching Dick in a Box on Youtube, and I didn't have the patience to wait 10 minutes for a 2 minutes clip. Then I tried to watch the new Transformers trailer. It didn't even load. I guess it may be because my wireless connection isn't real good, or it may be because it's still a beta version.

Whatever it is, looking at anything more than text is a massive chore, at least where I live.

Can you actually look at the web while playing a game? There's a one channel at a time rule, isn't there? Being able to check out Gamefaqs suring a TP dungeon without shutting it off first would be sweet.

I know that people get tired of hearing this as the initial response, but changing your router's channel really does fix problems. It did for me, no questions asked. Everything was working fine except for the Wii Shop Channel, but as soon as I flipped my router to Channel 1 I can buy my shit to my heart's content.

Also, I updated my Wii on Christmas morning with no problems whatsoever. The "bricking," much like what I gather is the same with 360s, is really a very, very isolated problem that's overblown in the Internet echo chamber.

    1. Why the hell did the remote leave the house?

    2. Most TVs allow you to swtich to video by cycling through ll the channels. So go past the last channel and it should switch to video

No...it's pretty obvious what's going to happen if you read Nintendo's press release about it. The browser is in 'trial version' until March when the full version is released. Then the full version is free until June and everyone will have to pay a one time fee of 500 points to use it after then.

    Press Release

    "Availability

Nintendo is currently offering a free trial of Opera for Wii which is now available for download. The release of the final version of the Opera browser for Wii is currently scheduled for late March 2007. Opera for Wii will remain a free download until June 30, 2007. After June 30, Opera will be available for download from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii points. I don't have a wireless router, and I'm kind of in the dark about these wifi adapters. My computer only has two usable USB ports, one of which is connecting my router to my computer, while the other is reserved for my wireless keyboard and mouse.

    1. Will one of these need to be sacrificed in order to make room for the wifi adapter, or can the adapter take the place of the USB connection between my router and my computer?
    2. Is there a chance the wireless connection used by my keyboard and mouse could interfere with the wifi connection if/when I set it up?
    3. Is there a special 'official' wii wifi adapter, and if so, does it have any advantages over other wifi adapters? Are there any cheap alternatives?

(I hope that this is considered on topic...)
