POS-like touchscreen peripheral?
TehSlothHit Or MissI Guess They Never Miss, HuhRegistered Userregular
So, I'm looking for something that can operate as a touchscreen peripheral and has a built in display. Basically a lot like those Point-of-Service touchscreen computers they use at all the restaurants, but something small, and that I could possibly feed the touch feedback to another laptop over USB, since I'm already using another laptop. Pretty much like a Wacom Cintiq but I don't need it to be that big or sensitive. I was kind of looking at a Lilliput touchscreen display also, but I was wondering if anyone had fiddled with anything like that or had any ideas of what else I could use. If it ended up being cost effective, I might even be tempted to just get a cheap tablet pc and pass everything over a network, but that might be a bit more of a pain in the arse.
About 5 years ago I had a pocket pc PDA, and I had installed VNC Viewer on it. So I could connect to my home desktop PC from my pocket pc PDA to do a variety of things. It was a very cumbersome process though, iirc, because you had to scroll around the screen a lot due to resolution differences; but it got the job done that I needed it to do for the time. I could access my home PC and operate it from anywhere in the world with internet access and my pocket PC and that's all I needed. Maybe these days a newer version of it will work better, I dunno.
I'm guessing the OP is looking for a more streamlined solution though. I will say that buying an old-ass pocket PC with a built in wifi card should be pretty cheap though, I would imagine. And VNC is of course a free program.

you could also just get a small 12-15" touchscreen lcd, numerous companies make those.

Awesome, thanks, I really like the look of those Mimo monitors, they seem to be exactly what I'm looking for!
