Alright, so those of you who live in Florida may be familiar with the situation currently happening on I-4, for those of you who aren't hit the link below.
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/jan/14/141953/could-be-days-i-4-completely-reopens/news-breaking/Basically, it go SO damn cold here in Florida that farmers starting using sprinklers on their crops to create a protective layer of ice that would melt off and preserve their fruit. The down side to this is the quanity of water they've used. The strawberry farmers have FUBAR'd the water table in the area. They're essentially responsible for creating about 22 sink holes in the area. One of which has shut down three out of four lanes on Eastbound I-4. This interstate is the primary corridor betweem Orlando and Tampa. The sink hole itself is
just after the exit I need to get off at. Getting home at night has now become miserable. Once the clock hits 5 and people start heading home traffic gets backed up for ten miles from our exit, I think we can all agree that ten miles of traffic being funnelled down to one lane will create a traffic problem. The Florida Department or Transportation is unsure as to when they'll reopen the lanes. For more details read the news article above. It's epic.
Standard route home
Above is the map showing the route we
used to take home. Please note that it takes into account having to run by my wife's mothers place to pick up our kid on our way home.
The goal here is to try and optimize the way home. Assume I-4 is toxic and to be avoided at all costs.
Take US-92
Bad news, as of today they shut down US-92 in both directions due to over use and a depresion similar to what they saw on I-4, which has reshuffled all traffic into surrounding roads. US-92 is toxic.
Martin Luther King (US 574) and Highway 60 are also toxic.
The start and end points are not exact in the interest of privacy.
Long story short:
Florida Department of Transportation has shut down three out of four lanes on major interstate, and as of today also shut down the primary detour route. I need a new route home that doesn't involve those roads.
Rules:
Roads considered toxic are not allowed to be recommend. Toxic roads are: I-4, US-92, MLK (US-574) and HWY 60
Toll roads are acceptable.
Speed limits are ignorable. If you devise a route that can be travelled in less time that Google suggests, I'll take it. Speed limits are ignoreable since most cops are enforcing interstate and other road closures.
This is the solution I devised:
Here (Toll road above used as the state of Florida uses a Sunpass system which allows us to drive through Toll Booth without stopping and billing our account. Toll road also has reversible express lane that drops us a little further than shown on map. Bad ass road)
Thoughts?
