Here's the situation: with the amount I'm looking to get for a tax refund, the wife has authorized me to buy a new TV that would either go in the basement, or replace my current TV, which would then go to the basement. The basement TV would have surround sound via a HTIB, an Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.
Right now I have a Samsung 50" 720p plasma. My quandary is, do I move that to the basement or put the new TV in the basement? Ideally I'd like to have a nice big 1080p TV downstairs for watching blu rays, but my budget might prevent me from doing that. I'll probably sitting from 9' to 10' from the basement TV.
So the two options are (1) buy a smaller TV for watching TV upstairs, move the plasma downstairs or (2) buy a new TV for downstairs, keep the plasma upstairs.
If my budget's around $1000 or less, can I even get a decent TV for gaming and movies? Would something like
this fit my needs or would I end up disappointed? I have no idea what I should look for in an LCD so I'm kind of lost. There's probably a lot of cheap LCDs that would actually look worse than what I have now. Getting a nice big plasma for the basement would be ideal, but I don't think there are any plasmas that are going to fit my budget.
So...tell me what to do! Help me build my man-cave!

The Panasonic 50 inch TC-P50S1 is on clearance with a lot of retailers right now as well, so it's probably discounted around $1,000.
Out of all the cheap brands, Vizio is the best. Generally speaking though, plasmas are cheaper per inch than LCDs and Panasonic makes the best plasmas.
