Not impressed with the main character, I thought they said that an individual Splicer would be no therat at all but they all manage to rape my ass easily enough in 3 shots. Bit inconsistent with the one I saw through a window taking on 3 at once for about 4 minutes while being shot to shit.
I agree - to an extent. From a gameplay perspective it'd suck if you were as monstruous and unstoppable as the regular Big Daddies. The first fight I had with another Big Daddy was very intense, very draining of my resources. Thematically you could say the Splicers have had a decade of extra splicing to beef themselves up, but still they shouldn't be hitting this hard. Combat with the drill shouldn't be this dangerous.
This'll probably change as you get further in.
Well the idea was they'd send more splicers at you to compensate for you being a Big Daddy but one is enough to wreck your shit and so many are armed that using the drill seems impractical and its limited use which is weird. Plus at the moment its very predictable, "go to dead end to get something, turn around and expect people to have appeared out of nowhere"
Not a single spoiler in the multiplayer; to be honest, it made me a bit better at singleplayer from being able to use plasmids & weapons in conjunction with each other, instead of having to hot-swap to one or the next.
I'm having an odd issue where half the textures won't "pop-in". I'm seeing low-rez shit versions all over the place, and those that do pop in take quite a bit of time to do so.
No problems like this in first Bioshock or any other Unreal 2.5-3.5 games.
All the graphical settings are maxed, running in DX10.... what the fuuuuuuck.
My special edition shipment was delayed due to overblown panic about a snowstorm so I don't have it yet, but UPS is claiming that it is 27 pounds. I know it has a hardcover book and a record, but I don't see how it could possibly weigh that much. Can anyone that recieved the special edition already say if it is really that hefty?

Feels bad man.
I get the same problem. Mass Effect shares an engine and had that problem too, on 360 at least.
Man, I'm pretty bad at this game. I'm always out of ammo and die a lot. I've pretty much given up on killing big daddies unless I'm at full ammo, which rarely happens.
Picked it up at lunch today. Only managed to get through about 20 minutes of it before having to get back to work. I have to say, I need to play more...now. I do find myself low on health constantly, can't wait to get to a point where I am not living in fear of dying. I still love the atmosphere and look forward to more of the story. I'm glad the audio diaries made it back into this one.

I love the shit out of the multiplayer.
Honestly though? Machine Gun needs toning down, and Grenade Launcher & Crossbow need a buff. Already I can see this. The great thing about the Crossbow in Bioshock 1 was that a headshot with it meant death. It's hard to land a headshot in the multiplayer, and it doesn't award a one-hit kill. This is the sniping weapon for the game, and unless there's an upgrade for it I haven't unlocked yet, I'll just complete its trials and go back to Aero Dash/Shotgun or Winter Blast/Machine Gun.
Sitting in programming class, impatiently tapping my foot until I can get the hell out of here at 1:45 so I can go home and jump into some more Bioshock 2 multiplayer.
Anybody want to party up on PC for some multiplayer around 2 (pacific time)?
sounds like it's harder than the first one, is this the case? first one with the vita chambers and the power buildup by the end made it pretty easy after a certain point. The first big daddy you slew was a challenge, the last 50% of big daddies was just a matter of setting up electric traps.
Playing on hard with no vito chambers and didn't die much in the first hour or two I've played. It's easy to take damage for sure but I seem to find a gigantic amount of first aid kids, including a free one every time you hack a heal station. I get to a hard part and go "Oh shit I just used all 7 of my kits in the span of 2 minutes!", and then 2 minutes later I have another 5.
I've come back at my saves, but I've only died like 3 times and shut the game off after I died the third time (in Ryan's Amusements).
Anyway, does anyone else play this game and conjure up a mental image of a giant guy in a diving suit stuffing endless amounts of canned beans into his helmet? Then polishing it off with a bottle of whiskey and a long drag from his energy restoring cigarette??
Was there this much food to eat in the first? I can't remember.

Pretty much, but it was all snack cakes and potato chips.

7? Are you on the 360? Max I can get is 5 on PC.
EDIT: Anyone having an issue with the Gene bank? Randomly it seems to blank the whole screen and hang the computer since I can't CAD or ALTTAB out.
The multiplayer is a mixture of janky and awesome. The janky parts are the combat feeling like an Unreal game slowed down to a crawl, the awesome parts are what it takes from COD. And the weapons are terrible.

Well, there is a little lag that makes everything a bit janky, but I think in a perfect lag free environment there would be no jank. But I'm using Aero Dash a lot and that seems to get screwed by the lag a bit more than the other powers/weapons.

Aero Dash is horrible in confined spaces. It's also pure crap on stairs. You don't dash UP the stairs - you just dash half a foot ahead until the next step while the opponent laughs and fills your face with lead. Incinerate is a fan favourite but it's far from the best. Personally I had the most fun beating someone to death with projectile shoes via Telekinesis.
This game is fantastic. It feels like more of the same, which is not a bad thing at all.
Only down sides are the graphics are not nearly as good as i expected (Lots of muddy textures and flat looking coral/flora.) and the Big Daddy as a main character seems really weak. I mean i thought Big Daddy's were pretty much invincible other than under certain circumstances. A few well placed pistol rounds and this big daddy is down for the count, kind of takes away from the feeling you are a bad ass daddy.
On the flip side my PC runs it at stupid high framerate because i completely conquer the requirements.
Does playing with Vita Chambers turned off require you to save every few minutes, or risk losing a bunch of game progression?
I think it still runs on a checkpoint system, you just don't get the benefit of coming back with all the damage you've done still in place.
Had mine on Hard, no Vita chambers... died midway through a chapter, hadn't saved in a bit, took me right back to the Menu screen.
Meh... will play on Easuy no Vitas to enjoy the story/collect AudioBooks, then I'll do a Hard w/ Vitas to finish achievement list.
Multiplayer is pretty awesome, I'm up to rank 8 just now. A few of the maps are annoying, but the Kurshin (sp) Restaraunt is pretty awesome, and seems to come up the most often. The Orphanage place sucks, its as close-quarters as you can get.
And on the buffs for grenade launcher? MAN, I think I finished the 30-kill Trial for that in 2 rounds... just think Halo, nail them with Elec/Incinerate, and aim for the feet. Bam, dead players.

So for multiplayer, do you preselect plasmids?

There's a ranking system based on a number of criteria: Finding ADAM on the battlefield, killing a Big Daddy player, hacking stuff, killing sprees are all on the list. ADAM acts as experience points, and thus allows you to reach higher ranks. Higher ranks unlock better plasmids, tonics, weapons, and weapon upgrades. You start with Winter Blast, Incinerate!, and Electrobolt as Plasmids. You start with the Pistol and Shotgun as weapons. I'm at rank... 14? And I've got a Pistol, Shotgun, Machine Gun, Grenade Launcher, Crossbow, Incinerate!, Electrobolt, Winter Blast, Aero Dash, Geyser Trap, Telekinesis, a faster research time tonic, an enemy turret accuracy penalty tonic, a backstab damage bonus tonic, a faster health regen tonic, and a eve cost discount tonic. There's lots to collect.
You choose a "loadout" that you can customise in your apartment. 2 weapons, 2 plasmids, 3 tonics. You can have up to 3 loadouts.
is there a way (on the pc version, of course) to get rid of that 15 FPS cap on physics
i think my computer can handle people falling down at 60fps.

So I wasn't planning on picking this up until much later (gotta case of the backlog), but then TRU went and advertised a helluva deal in their weekly ad - Bioshock 2 for $59.99 and you get a $10 gift card and a $20 set of Big Sister/Little Sister action figures.
I'm a sucker for action figures. Alas, I'm shelving this until this weekend when I can finish up my paragon run on Mass Effect 2.
I'm thinking about grabbing a copy of the first game and I was wondering how it controlled on the PS3 vs 360.
About the same, I own it on both systems (devs did such a good job, they deserve my money double). I still personally prefer it on the 360, but its more a personal preference.
Playing it on Hard with Vita-Chambers disabled from the get-go. So far, it's a lot of fun. It feels a lot like the original, which isn't a bad thing at all. I noticed they dramatically increased the Eve cost for throwing things with Telekinesis; my guess is they realized how stupid overpowered it was in the first game (banking a dead Big Daddy off a Splicer's helmet is pretty much a OHK even on Hard, and it cost essentially nothing). This is probably more what they were going for. Still, I do miss yo-yo'ing trash cans off of anything that moved.
Not having to root around for camera film to do research with.
Do you still have to take 3 pictures of every guy you see or is it just One picture then you can plasmid-punt him into the Mariana Trench?
The camera's different now. You start recording before you fight an enemy, and fighting them gives you research points. Thrashing them in new and interesting ways improves your grade for each enemy researched. The One-Two Punch usually gets you an A rank, at least initially, but you get less points for killing them in the same way over and over. Oh, and the camera has infinite ammo.

That, and charging up plasmids = winsauce

Got in a rut where the entire other team had a damage bonus on me. That sort of put a damper on that match.

Is this worth picking up? did they keep all that lovely set design and creepiness?
Yeah, you should definitely pick it up.
