Mass Effect 2: Spoilers and footage, exit stage right
Mass Effect is an award-winning, bestselling series of science fiction RPG third person shooters developed by the Canadian company BioWare and released on the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The first game takes place in the year 2183, with the player assuming the role of an elite human soldier named Commander Shepard, set out to explore the Galaxy on a starship, the SSV Normandy. The Xbox 360 edition was released worldwide in November 2007 published by Microsoft Game Studios. The Windows edition was released on May 28, 2008, published by Electronic Arts. The first downloadable content package, Bring Down the Sky, was released on March 10, 2008 (with a PC version released on July 29, 2008) The second downloadable content package, Pinnacle Station, was released on August 25, 2009 for the PC and Xbox 360.
The DLC was not finished when the game went to certification. It still has people working on it. This is not a matter of opinion - it is a fact. It's not on the disc because hey, we can't actually control the flow of time, no matter how much we might like to.
oh, and spoilers? if they'll destroy your experience, try to bag them and tag them. thanks.
Welcome to Nuzak's famous thread. You want many good posts, yes?
Oh, you will be pleased I think!

That's an awesome pic.
And I predict many, many spoilers.
It's like tradition now.
Before I finished my first ME play, I had to read half this thread with the mental equivalent of fingers in my ears, while going LALALALALALALALA IdidntseethatIdidntseethatIdidntseethatIdidntseethatIdidntseethatIdidntseethat.
I just finished a playthrough of ME1. Going in, I said to myself, "All right, I'm going to be a renegade asshole! I've been a good guy in every game that ever gave me the choice. I want to see Shephard punch some fuckers!"
Then I said something mean to those miners on Eden Prime, and felt awful. I finished as a boy scout Paragon.
The point is, I cannot be evil/a dick in videogames. I look forward to being the nicest guy in the galaxy in ME2.

I do the same thing every god damned bioware game. I set out to be an evil asshole (or in the case of ME just a d-bag) but I just feel so damn bad when I'm mean to people. Their fuckin videogame characters! Why does it upset me! God dammit! I'm such a pussy... you are to.

Reposting my Fresh Prince of Virmire thing because I think it got lost in the mayhem of "OMG ME2 IS ALMOST HERE VIDEOS ARE EVERYWHERE"
So many threads ago someone made some quip about "The Fresh Prince of Virmire" and I thought it sounded so right that I should write that theme song. And maybe someday multiple episodes of the series.
But right now just the song.
And it goes much better if you prime your head with the actual theme song so here's that first:
Now, this is a story all about how
My mass got flipped - turned all the way down.
And I'd like to take a minute,
Just sit right there.
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a place called Virmire...
In west Mindoir I was born and raised,
On the colony is where I spent most of my days.
Chillin' out mass manipulating all cool
And all shootin some batarians, outside of the school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no fun
Started making trouble in Elysium.
I wiped out one group of pirates and the Council was there
They said "You're making contact with our team that disappeared on Virmire."
I had begged with them to put Saren away,
But they ignored my vision and sent me on my way.
They made me a Spectre and then they gave me a ship, yet
I felt bad for Anderson, and said "Saren's a dickhead!"
Cut the council off, I have no class,
Gave Joker a laugh cuz he's a bit of an ass,
Is this what being a Spectre is like?
Hmm, this might be alright!
I took off in the Normandy and when we were there,
Wrex saw how they were cloning all those krogan in there.
Ashley almost tried to shoot him, get him outta my hair,
But I said "Bitch, don't try it - me and Wrex, we're a pair!"
I pulled up to Saren, and I dropped off a bomb.
Said goodbye to the salarians "Yo, you won't live long!"
I learned about the Reapers,
But we were taking fire.
I had no time to rule as the prince of Virmire.

So how are the Mass Effect novels? Just so you know, I enjoyed the Halo novel, Fall of Reach. That was surprisingly decent for a video game tie in, and half of that was the back story that Bungie had built up.
Mass Effect's back story and universe is about a billion times cooler. Do the novels approach doing it the same kind of justice?

If you enjoyed the Halo books, you'll enjoy the ME novels. I did, anyways.

Then perhaps they will hold me over until I can actually afford ME2.
Who am I kidding. I'd kill a man so I could pre-order on Steam.

Better than the DA novels. But not as good as Karpshyn's Star wars books.
I wonder if these threads will get up to the thread every day and a half that the DA thread had at it's peak.

I've been ready for this since Eden Prime.
So do people know how letting the council live/die will affect ME2? If so, can someone throw it in a spoiler tag?

Ughh I was really hoping that saving Liara last would allow me to not "embrace eternity" again. Renegade, racist Shepherd has no love for your [strike]jedi[/strike] asari mind tricks!
So I said in the last thread that I just got the game (ME1) for the first time. I've been playing and, while good, have been underwhelmed by the game, based on all the praise it gets.
My latest grievance is that I notice very often the game tell me it is "saving" yet I just loaded my auto save and went back about an hour.

Anyone else experience this?
While I have not experienced this, you should be saving every 5 minutes. Auto-Save is horrible.

Yeah it's a trick
It's really subtle, it's the game's AI trying to undermine you by making you feel safe
Unfortunately that doesn't include the best part of rescuing Liara last, which is when you bring her back to the Normandy.
Since she's Big Early Game Plot Exposition Girl (hence the thuddingly large hints the game drops you should rescue her first), if you rescue her after you've done Virmire you already know way more than she does about the Protheans.
This leads to some hilariously dickish Renegade conversation options during the discussions about the Protheans and the Reapers, all of which basically boil down to "Yeah, all that stuff you've spent the last several decades dedicating your entire life to researching? I figured all that out in about a week, so thanks for nothing!"
Is this game unbelievably hard? Or am I doing something wrong? I run into so many situations where I go around a corner, or peek out from cover to attack, and just get annihilated. It seems like on shot is killing me. I know thats not the case but thats how quick it happens (not to mention I don't even see shots coming at me, and when I do, it's a guy charging in for melee and will kill me in 2 or 3 hits anyway). My squad dies constantly. I saw someone in the last thread talking about a "tank character". How does this work? I don't see any way to make a character a tank, I just die so unbelievably fast.
Please, help me. This game... I can sense the greatness and enjoyment, it's just being seriously hampered right now.
What class are you? Engineers are super fragile; adepts and sentinels are fairly so; vanguards and infiltrators are moderately tough and soldiers are borderline unkillable after a while.

I am a soldier thats the thing. I must be doing something wrong, right? My shit gets ruined ferociously. And if I don't die, my allies do, so I'm stuck trying to kill the 4 guys coming at me from all sides.

Not long now!
i don't care about no spoilers
And I know about BDtS.
I did it first thing on this last run through, like a dope.
I find it hard as well. If not impossible. It would be much easier to be the guy who is working for the evil guy but is other-wise nice.
Which is generally not an option in any RP game I've played.
I know right!?

Perhaps an infusion of Quads could slow it down.
