The new forums will be named Coin Return (based on the most recent vote)! You can check on the status and timeline of the transition to the new forums here.
The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Then maybe this is a pretty cool time of year for you! During the year the government takes your shit, but hey, they give some back to you yearly for filling out some relatively easy paperwork
Maybe it's not relatively easy for you, maybe you're one of those people who is freaked out by the approaching 15th of April
But whatever! Point is, unless you're paying more money, which sucks for you, you're gettin' some money back!
So what cool shit will you be doing with your tax return? Spending it recklessly? Putting it into savings? Paying off credit card debt/student loans?
I'll probably get around 1000 bucks back this year.
love having a jew for a dad.
Yeah, real easy to get tax rebate when your people run the secret world government.
Mine's probably going into savings since I'm going back to school in the fall. Although I might have to pull it back out for a new computer, mine is basically the laptop version of Marvin at the end of "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish."

I don't give the government a free loan. I usually end up plus or minus 200 bucks at the worst.
I usually end up paying more taxes three years back I owe the government $2000. What the hell. If I do get a little something back, it'll go to savings. Maybe a nice meal. Feed myself chipotle everyday for a week.
I know I'm getting cash back, and I'm eager to see just how much I'll be getting. I have important things to do with this money!
I need some advice from you guys. Those of you who are single and working a low/mid paying job, how much do you usually get back at tax time? Or do you usually pay?
I started a new job last February, so this will be the first year I'm paying taxes for it. I set aside an extra amount of cash from each paycheck just in case, because I really did not want to have to owe money come tax time, and I was okay with giving the government a free loan (as Hunter put it) to avoid this. Though it may be safe to assume that I would be getting money back regardless, I will definitely be getting some back with the extra cash put in.

i make about 11k and I'm getting at minimum 1k back
and remember, it's not really giving the government a free loan, that shit is retarded
because if it goes the other way then they're giving YOU a free loan
if you are self employed or run a business the government recommends you file taxes every quarter. Mainly because:
1. its money year round for them
2. you pay in smaller chunks so it is more manageable
3. you can potentially overpay so at the end of the year you actually do get a refund back, though not likely.
4. if halfway through the year you end up getting a full time job and stop self-employing it makes the rest of the year waaay easier to file.
basically itll change it from "oh shit, where can I find 2k, quick!" to "shit 500 bucks sucks, but i can swing it"

This past year I made 27k and am getting $1300 back
I've had this job for a few years and before that I had a part-time job, I've never had to pay though
I should look up the tax brackets to see where I fall. I think I'm just below the divider of a tax bracket, but I may be just above. I'm not educated enough about taxes.

We moved, and she got a better job.
I think I worked more hours.

Finished it last night and just got an e-mail this morning saying that the IRS accepted and I'll be getting my cash around next Friday

Is... is that illegal? Can they tax me more because of it?
