So, with Halo 3 coming out sometime later this year, I'm sure everyone is excited for the impending arrival of a new "I Love Bees". But so far there has been nothing. No odd internet sites, no cryptic messages, no anything. We all know Microsoft is going to break the bank on Halo 3 marketing and such, and it would only make sense for ILB2 to be coming sometime rather soon.
So, out of curiosity, when did ILBs start in relation to Halo 2? Also, what does everyone expect of a new ILBs? The same old stuff, or something even more indepth and crazy?
ilovebees wasn't overtly linked to Halo for quite some time, though. Not officially, anyway. There were a number of references to things from within the Halo universe, but it was flatly denied by Bungie et al.
So by this, to get something of the same impact, it won't be "HAY GUYS A NEW ILOVEBEES!", since part of the appeal was the enigmatic mystery of it all. If it happens, i imagine it'd be a nightmare to try and slip it out there with no-one noticing, and keeping it distant enough so that it's not an overt marketing ploy.

True. That's why we have to keep our eyes open. I'm pretty sure everyone expecting it to happen. The most important thing is to figure out what is and isn't ilovebees2.
I love bees pisses me off. Not for anything it did itself, but for inspiring this whole hysteria of viral marketing and ARG's, to the point where even the most inconspicious mistake or oddity is treated as the secret key to unlock hidden informations! I'm getting sick of it.
ILB was creative and it was a worthwhile expenditure of money; but can we please not have to have the obligatory rehash for the sequel? Everyone will see it coming and it will end up just being a cheap knockoff.

this is pretty-much my fear. I think 4orty-2wo (who i hope would handle it), would be smarter than to just rehash something. They seem to be a genuinely original and inspired company, so i don't think they'd just do it all again. But i don't see how else it could be done.
The best way to follow up something as unique and special as ILB is to not even try.
Let it be what it was.
On the one hand, I agree with you completely. On the other hand, I would kill for a continuation of the story itself. Don't even get all ARG with it, just serialize the story, make enough pieces to space it out til release, and just do that.

that would probably be the best strategy. Don't even try to compete, just write a really, really good story and as you say, serialise it.
I mean, if they had to, i'm sure there are some layers of interactivity that could go on. But the stuff that happened in ilovebees was relevant to the story (fractured AI, half of it stuck in our time, which was the cause of the corrupted site and the conversations and stuff), and to do something like that again would be more than a little hackneyed. They'd need a second, relevant excuse to do the same thing, and it'd just feel shoehorned.

Nintendo made ILOVEBEAMS.com I think. It was about how Metroid Prime 2 was going to beat the shit out of Halo 2.
I wish Nintendo would try harder sometimes.
Nintendo did them all. Each website was just a picture of Samus and some text, somehting like "Never send a man to do a woman's Job" or something like that.
Any company intelligent and in-tune enough with its market to create an amazing piece of advertising like ilovebees is also likely intelligent and in-tune enough to understand that you don't recapture ilovebees with ilovebees.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
I decided to Google what I just mentioned and found out something awesome about the Metroid Prime 2 "ARG" attempts:
Athena Astronautics is a site that is pursuing sending women into space. There are mentions of suit, weapons, and combat training—references to Samus Aran's Power Suit. There is also a blog that dismisses Channel 51 (above) and Samantha Manus, but makes no mention of how the videos clearly show Metroid Prime 2 footage.
Additionally, Athena Astronautics offered job positions on Monster.com for Bounty Hunters. Those who initially applied for the position were sent an "interactive training manual", in the form of a free copy of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

Yup.

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
People would be so prepared for an I Love Bees sequel that trying to make an ARG out of it won't last a minute. Just pen a great story and space out the the releases, as mentioned before.

again, what captivated me wasn't just the 'future' half of the story, but what was taking place in the present. To achieve the same parallel effect, they'd need to do something that would likely feel too contrived. Unless they can pull off something astounding, i'd agree with the 'give us a good story and leave it there'. Or a series of longer trailers, like the recent live action/CGI one. That was sweet.
