Downloading and installing mods

So I started playing medieval Total war 2 again and searched the old thread on here for some mod suggestions. Now I am not bad with computers but the extent of my downloading mods has been the Curse Client for WoW. I downloaded a version and it went to the folder and I can run it but it goes to the opening screen then quits out, I looked and it said I needed to download part 1 and part 2 before I can download 6.2

Heres a link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=159996 from where I am getting the links. Any chance someone could help me figure out how to do this? I have the steam version as well as the kingdoms expansion if it makes any difference.

    Download it.

    Install it into your Medieval 2 directory.

    You're done.

    Well when I run the Exe for patches it says that I don't have any version of the game installed and it just stops.

    What exactly did you download? You need 6.0 part 1 and 2 before you can run the 6.1 patch exe.

    I downloaded the 6.1 exe and put it in the right folder I then downloaded part 1 and 2 and whenever I attempt to run the Exe for them Winrar says there is an error and it wont run

    It looks like you just unrar part 1 into your MTW2 folder, then unrar part 2 into your MTW2 folder, then run the exe for the patch.

    Have you installed WinRAR?

    Yeah I just attempted again and I keep getting this error message

    "The archive is either in unkown format or damaged" I tried redownloading it and extracting again but always the same message.

    Do they have a mirror? Try downloading it from somewhere else.
