New Raid over River Footage?

The lovely folks at Nibris have popped onto our forums to share some very cool new footage of Raid Over the River. Be sure to check it out by following the links below, (the first one is the footage itself, the second one the discussion forum for you to comment) and leave the Nibris team some feedback to let them know what you think of it in this topic. You never know, your comments might make a difference to the final game. Hopefully we'll have some more details on this game for you very soon.

Hello to all in 2007 year and best wishes.

This is first cam video from tech demo from our first DS production - ROTR:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8859251871838045458

Of course this is not final version - game will be ready at Q2 2007.
What do you think about it? What we should change? Do you think 2 screens gameplay work good?

So why is the offical video release a cam-copy?

its possible someone just got hold of this footage and is getting kicks out of tricking people that thay are 'nibris'

for gods sake, why can't they just proove that they are real. seriously.

The first video they put out made it look a lot better. More ships and more shooting and more action.

    This video is very bland..

I love how the name is a complete spin-off of River Raid for the Atari 2600.

    Here's a "trailer" of sorts:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEgyToXrZ8Y

Here's an 8 second clip of gameplay:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQqo6SUlNFI

Both of these are pretty bland, but at least they show more of what's going on than the new video.

They mention bullet scraping. I'll take that to mean that there will be a lot more enemies and a lot more bullets in the final version.

All they need is more shit on screen trying to kill you and it would be at least decent.

I'm the biggest Nibris sceptic in the world, and I am still not convinced that they aren't just a bunch of kids sitting in a basement with grand plans, but with no real technical ability.

That 8-seconds of "gameplay footage", and a couple of dodgy "screengrabs" is really all they have to show for a year of hype.

They promised that Raid Over the River would be fully playable at E3, but didn't even show up. Then there was the bogus story about their amazing multi-million-dollar movie deal for "Sadness" that never went anywhere.

Not to mention, that if they ever actually release "Raid Over the River", they will be sued into oblivion by whoever owns the rights to "River Raid".

That's not river raid, its a remake of 1942.

If it was River Raid you'd die if you went off the river.

And there'd be floating gas tanks all around.

    ...

I wasted soooo much of my youth on that game.

My bet is that you are meant to die when you hit the walls, but they haven't implemented environmental collision detection yet. Or gas tanks.

The plane goes straight through a bridge too, which would have killed you in River Raid.

Free download of Tyrian 2000 for the GBA.

Needs a homebrew kit, a GBA compatible one.

But... but.... it had a trailer. It was in black and white, and it was live-action, with a chick in it. It must be real. Plus, they had a 600-page script that was so good, that a movie producer bought the rights to it for millions of dollars within days of them finishing it.

Well, I don't know if they've really done shit or not, but it shouldn't take much time or resources to create a basic bullet-hell shmup for the DS.

I think it's within the realm of possibility. I also think it's in the realm of possibility that it will never get published.

Do they have a publisher yet?

yes, a really big publisher, that has signed a deal for this, A Wii version of this, and Sadness. They can't release details on who their publisher is, for unknown reasons.

edit - or so they say.

I think there is as much chance of a decent game ever being made by these guys as there is of their Sadness blockbuster movie ever being released.

They really seem to be attention-whores, even name-dropping their company into an interview with Miyamoto (via a viewer-submitted question). They have missed every deadline they have set, and produced more bullshots than you can count.

Raid Over the River is just another bit of vapourware, but a lot times less ambitious than most, since it is just a knock-off of another game that they don't have the rights to.

True.. but hope persists based on the mass desire to have more awesome vertical shmups on the DS. Particularly ones that can use both screens at once.

I mean.. honestly.. I've seen homebrewers come out with impressive shmups on their own time. There's a shmup site that holds a homebrew competition for people to make and submit their own shmups, and are given a couple of months of time to make them.

Some of the games built by these people in their spare time over the course of a few months are pretty good and surprisingly well-made. It stands to reason that an actual development group could do something at least as well, with more time, and at least more than $0 to work with.

But... as simple a matter as it may seem to develop a half-decent shmup on an easy-to-develop-for system with a relatively cheap devkit, there's just so very little to show for what Nibris has given us. 8 seconds of gameplay? A vague trailer? No named publisher?

It sucks. I wish a real developer/publisher besides just Shinen/Majesco would realize the potential for awesome DS shmups.

It is a "sequel". Just a totally unauthorised one.

Nibris liked River Raid, so they have decided to make their own remake: Raid Over the River. They don't have permission from the River Raid rights-holders to make it, but they are hoping that the ever-so-clever name change will absolve them of any legal problems.
