Cheap Laptops

I need to find a laptop for around $300-400. My mom has been threatening that she's going to steal mine, so I need to find her a new laptop as soon as possible.

My naive grandfather purchased a tiny netbook for about $200, but it sucks ass. I don't want to go down that road.

My mom only needs this laptop to stay connected, browse the internet, check her email...nothing special. It doesn't need to be uber fast, but it should be fairly reliable and user friendly...and wireless, of course.

Thanks.

    Asus EeePC 1005HA.

I have one for taking notes in class and keeping myself from dying of boredom when I don't have my PC around. It rocks.

Would Best Buy carry it or do I have to order one online?

I dunno, I got mine from newegg. Bestbuy.com shows them as in stock, but I don't know how that relates to B&M Stores.

But also it is a netbook, so its quite tiny and your ma wont be playing TF2 on it.

I got my wife an Asus netbook for valentines. Its got USB, Wired and Wireless internet, a webcam, and enough horsepower to run windows and ms office 2007.
She really likes it, and it only cost me about 250 bucks after rebates.

Hmm, ya, netbooks. I'm fairly certain she might want to watch obscure television shows on this thing, too. I doubt she'll want anything small...or relatively small.

You can't get big & cheap together. Unless you settle for old.

I just got an Acer Aspire One for $220 and it skypes, youtubes, and hulus just fine. You can plug in an external monitor too. Esh plugged it into his TV in another H/A thread, I believe.

If you're going for big, you should be able to find something cheap if you go for something last year's model and heavy. A desktop replacement laptop ending its end of life gets pretty heavily discounted. Can't talk for specific models as I'm stuck in Oz where electronics prices bear no relation to reality.

Stretch your budget a little bit and there are a lot of options. Take a look at the HP dv4 or dv6. Around $600 depending on options and they are core2 duo-based laptops, not netbooks. Also, something like the Dell Inspiron series would be fine too.
