Sound comes out of speakers with headphones plugged in

I was on a Skype call, doing commentary on a streaming video. The skype call came through my headphones, but the audio on the streaming video came out through the speakers on my laptop. It was an issue because I couldn't turn up the volume of the video loud enough to hear it without my mic broadcasting the audio.

I've got a Dell Inspiron and it's got this HDT audio manager that I don't know how to use. Is there a way to get all audio piped through the headphones?

Also, perhaps unrelated, is there a way for Audacity to record what it picks up on my mic and audio I play? MP3s, Youtube videos, etc.

You should be able to adjust the volumes independently in windows, and depending on your headphones set them as a preferred device in the windows control panel under audio devices.

edit: The other question depends entirely on your soundcard. Mine can tie the ports together, not all can.
