So me and my roommate (the one that found the Claptrap in Fyrestone) just played through all the Fyrestone area/missions in one evening with new characters (him - Mordicah, me - Brick) and we hit level 20 just as we entered the Dahl Highlands.
Gotta say... I'm liking Brick a bit more than Roland.
Soldier class seems to be pure utility in this game. I thought I was going to like Roland best as a support character, but I dropped soldier almost immediately, and ended up liking Siren the most because of the way she's kind of a controller character and she redirects aggro.

I've got both at level 50, and I like Brick a lot more than Roland. I think Brick's action skill is more fun, he's almost impossible to kill, and he can use any weapon and be effective.
Mordecai and Lilith are probably straight up stronger characters, but it's hard to top the feeling of a charging Brick with maxed invul, damage and blaster skills. You are a rampaging engine of destruction, so what if you can't turn invisible.
Dr. Ned's Installation boss has been bested. After my best weapon, SecuRom manual activation program, failed spectacularly, I forced Steam into Windows XP compatibility mode and the evil DLC activated with little to no problems.
The intros for both made up for all the trouble I had with activating.

Ah, glad to hear you got it working. By extraordinary coincidence, I, too, just picked up a copy of Zombie Island. I should be on for at least an hour or two this afternoon if you'd like to kill some green mans.

Lilith especially. Good damage with versatile weapons and if something goes wrong, she's able to go invisible, heal herself, and re-appear somewhere more advantageous and repeat the process all over.
i logged on, planning on farming taylor cobb for a decent roaster on 2.5. i told soulgate what i was trying to do, and he decided to farm cobb in his game too and see what he got. we mostly came across helix versions and single-shot variations. after killing cobb, we'd check out the other chests in the general area, and in the chest next to helob, i found the super-rare nigh-unprecedented ORANGE CYCLOPS!
(cyclops snipers are known as "pearlescent" weapons, appearing at the top of the rarity list, but having a white color. this is a glitch. however, if a certain rare permutation of parts is generated, the glitch does NOT appear, and the gun appears dark orange as it was designed to.)
BEHOLD :
i saved it for soulgate and went on with the farming process. it dragged on, and on, and i was still getting crappy 800 damage single shot Roasters. i was about to give up hope when it finally happened. Taylor Cobb dropped this beauty:
with my overload skill, the clip size on it is boosted to 9. it was JUST the version i was looking for; the roaster is the volcano of fire rocket launchers. its red text means extra high damage over time, and i now had a SPREAD version of it. I immediately messaged soulgate, told him the good news, and invited him to my game to celebrate and try it out.
it soon became clear that i had been waiting my entire life for this launcher. we were both super impressed by the damage and general awesomeness, so i quickly backed up my save and gave him one. then we went back to jaynistown to see what damage we could wreak on its inhabitants.
never before had we seen entire groups of enemies instantly flash into white-hot pillars of flame.
after the carnage there was complete, we checked the chests, and in one of them was a CORROSIVE spread rocket launcher. We took this as a sign - a divine message - a mandate to go forth and shoot some mans.
first on the list was crimson fastness. each enemy group was enveloped in its own personal storm of fire and acid. second was crimson enclave, which played out the same way. soul and i just went to town on the lance:
(in the process, soulgate found his first unforgiven revolver and an absolute kick-ass volcano!)
finally, we decided to do one more instance; Lost Cave. pandora had never seen before, nor will ever see again the kind of carnage unleashed in that locale. skags vaporized from the shockwaves of our presence. it was glorious.
also, i can't wait to burninate some new lance foes in DLC 3

The night of many screams, as I'll fondly remember it. Between seeing things melt away while flaming, and burn away while melting, Nothing stood a chance. With both of us using the Roasters, it was just a MASSIVE wall of flames bursting into the sky, nothing visible in the smoke but hearing screams issuing from the carnage.
Crimson Fastness never fell faster. Enclave caved instantly. Lost Cave was Lost in the sea of burnt bodies. A Geneva convention was formed in attempt to ban weapons of massive destruction such as these.
They'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands before these launchers will be banned from Pandora.
All the Knoxx previews got me excited about the game again so I loaded it up the past couple days and blazed through the second half of the game.
Good stuff.
I'm thinking I'll pick up the zombie DLC but I'll probably skip the Moxxi one unless the Bank is shared among all your characters.
I'll PM Iolo, and I'm already in the Steam group but my Gamespy ID is: Galedrid if anyone wants to play some.
My Soldier is 37 and I just started a Hunter that's at 7.
EDIT: I notice when I go to load my Soldier it offers to let me load playthrough 1 or 2.
I realize Playthrough 2 is a new game, but if I load up Playthrough 1 and do stuff (like like the zombie dlc) then load up my Playthrough 2 will anything I did carry over even if I have already started playthrough 2?
I'm confused about how that works.
EDIT EDIT: It looks like the stuff I did in Playthrough 2 carried backwards when I loaded playthrough 1...so maybe? What a strange system.
EDIT EDIT EDIT: Zombie Island seems pretty cool, so far. A neat and different atmosphere than most of the rest of Borderlands. Incidentally I really liked the snow levels too for similar reasons.
I just hope it's bigger than the first hub area makes it appear. I accidentally went into Dead Haven and looked at the map and was disappointed that it is identical to Old Haven.

Actually the Moxxi one is well worth getting because you get more skill points, it's a REALLY good challenge for any character in the game and it is very fun online.

It will in fact stick you into the DLC in playthrough 2, but it's easy to warp back to where you were and resume. Nothing you do with the DLC in Playthrough 1 will affect if you can play or do something in Playthrough 2, so don't worry about it.
Edit:
I accidentally went into Dead Haven and looked at the map and was disappointed that it is identical to Old Haven.
That is in fact because it IS Old Haven, it's just had a bit of a zombie problem.
Oh, I guess that would have become apparent if I had a quest instead of just wandering aimlessly.
My question about going back and forth with the Playthroughs wasn't really about the quest/story progression as much as it was about levels/gear.
When I loaded up Playthrough 1 after dorking around in Playthrough 2 it kept all my Playthrough 2 equipment; I'm just unsure if it'll do likewise when I finish Dr. Neds on Playthrough 1 then go back to Playthrough 2 afterward.
Hmm. Still on Playthrough 1 but I FINALLY found a decent replacement for my 22-damage lightning shotgun. Except I found TWO.
A green 97-damage 7 pellet Hunter's Shotgun. 1.-something fire speed, two shots, high accuracy.
A purple 70-damage 7 pellet shotgun. 2.4 fire speed, 5 shots, 70ish accuracy.
The Hunter's Shotgun has a big kick, and looks nicer (better sights, too) but the other one fires almost as fast as a machine gun and has a bigger clip. I may have to resort to carrying BOTH for a while. :P
I started my Playthrough 2 at level 37. I then went back to Playthrough 1 and beat Dr. Ned. Now I'm level 42 and went back to my Playthrough 2 since there is nothing left at all to do in Playthrough 1. Well, all the enemies and quests are still level 36-ish, along with the loot.
Is this gonna catch up to me? I seem to recall people talking about the game being a lot harder on playthrough 2 but man things are dropping like flies without any effort at all. I can't be touched.
I'm just wondering if the loot and missions will catch up to me. At this rate I'll be 50 by the time I hit New Haven, at the latest and I don't want to find out I f'd myself over and the game is "locked" at a lower level. I want to do some New Haven loot runs for some 50-ish gear.

Don't worry; it catches up very quickly. By the last portion of P2 everyone is Level 50, and when you beat it everything is 50 or 51.

I would only do your main quests on playthrough 2, and save your sidequests for Playthrough 2.5 (after you beat the boss on playthrough 2.) That way the enemies are 50-51 and more of a challenge. It was more fun for me that way, anway.
Just picked up Zombie Island and Underdome Riot so I can get back into the game before General Knoxx comes out, because it looks awesome. I'm doing Zombie Island right now, and I'm enjoying myself, but I'm having a little trouble picking out targets because everything's the same colour-scheme. Also, everytime I headshot a zombie his brain falls out, and that's cool but it just litters the battlefield and when there's disembodied torsos crawling and puking at me, it makes it harder than it should be.
I do like it a lot, though.
Do not, I repeat, do not gather any brains until you activate that quest. Once you do, do not gather any more brains once you reach the quota for that quest. This should save you a lot of time.

I wish I had this advice before I played through Neds today. :P
Those quests will go a lot smoother on future playthroughs.
