Okay, this has really been pissing me off and I want to know if it's fixable or if I just have to buy a new mouse. The mouse I've got will click anywhere from 2 to 4 times every time I click it, usually 2, and once in about 10-15 times, it actually only clicks once. On the bright side, I'm getting really good with keyboard shortcuts, but I want a normal mouse.
So yeah, any ideas what's causing it/how to fix it?
I would suspect some problem with the wires/connections.
Still, the buttons are pretty simple things and you can take them apart relatively easily; taking apart the mouse itself requires usually only a cross screwdriver...
Oh, some better mouses come with a fairly long warranty, so if it's not that old or cheap you might want to hold off the disassembly until you check that.
edit: for an inexpensive mouse suitable for gaming I recommend the Microsoft Laser 6000 - 1000dpi and only ~$25 for the OEM version.
This is probably a really long shot but have you tried other mice and seen if it still happens on them? I used to have a simmilar problem with my old laptop. It turned out somehow that the computer was frequently lagging and executing the click event multiple times.
