Sonic 3 cartridge borked

As in, I get just a black screen when i fire up the genesis. I've cleaned the bottom, is there anything else I can do? I don't know if it has a battery that backs up saves that could have died and is the cause? I've been craving this game for so long and now I can't even play it...

    Any way you can try it on a different Genesis? If you've cleaned everything, there's not a lot else you can do besides pick up Sonic Mega Collection.

    Usually at work we take some windex and a q-tip and just clean out the bottom make sure there is nothing covering the pins and stuff. It seems to do the trick most of the time.
