What until the shadow people show up.

I spent 5 years doing 3rd shift. That's been almost a decade ago, but I STILL see them when I slip back into a 3rd shift sleeping schedule.

I worked the 12am-8am shift all summer, and it really fucks up your health. It is really hard to sleep in the afternoon during the summer, especially during a heat wave in an apartment without air-conditioning on the top floor. I went through a lot of nyquil, and wore one of those sleep masks. I used a lot of caffeine pills at first, but once I got used to the sleep schedule I mostly just drank diet pepsi as caffeine crashes make you more tired. Drinking fruit juice and eating healthy is also helpful.I listened to a lot of audio books and comedy albums to cope with the boredom, but since it was mostly manual labor I couldn't bring anything more than my ipod.

The other day I was on night shift and I was way too fucking tired for it, I have the building locked down and I know no one is inside.

I'm checking the cameras and I glance at the one pointed at the hall where my door is. There is a dude standing there looking into the window I turn from the camera and look at the door really quickly and no one is there. I check the camera again and no one.

When I tried to remember exactly what I saw I just remember tall and shadowy.

Your sub-conscious is dreaming without your conscious mind being let in. Happens to most shift-workers to one degree or another.

Mori is currently working 3:30 pm to 2 am (although he often stays until 3 am)

it's tough, he has to get up at 7:30 am, take me to work, sleep from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, get up & shower, go to work, and come home at 2-3 am having done nothing other than work

also I'm apparently mean in my sleep and have kicked him out of bed before

I worked overnight for a summer at an oilfield inspection shop. 6pm-6am mon-fri, and then an 11am-however late every other sunday

I cannot tell you how horrible that Sunday shift was. Basically had to decide between going for broke and staying up all the way through the night, or going to bed and resetting your sleep schedule the day before you have night shifts again. bleecchhh

I wouldn't trade that summer for anything. Quite the learning experience.

I used to work the nightshift at a petrol station. It was just petrol, with no shop, just me in my little cabin. It was great, double time pay to sit there listening to whatever CDs I'd taken, or playing on my GBA. I even took my guitar in a few times and used the time to practice. I'd see maybe a dozen people in 8 hours.

It was such a pointless job, that after I left, they put in unmanned pumps that you pay with your credit card instead. I was replaced by robots.

the worst was around 1:30 when the fuckfaces from the hillbilly bar across the street decide to come by and piss all over everything while pulling their guns and wearing tshirts with confederate flags on them.

I worked graveyard shifts at a service station for awhile. 11pm till 7am.

I spent all of every shift looking for a better job!

I also flat out refused to let anyone in and made them use that little draw thing to pay for petrol, it was in a pretty bad area.
