IDE to SATA: How?

My mate just bought a new computer. Problem is, the motherboard is one of those micro things with only two SATA ports, reserved for one HD and a DVD-RW. He wants to use his old HD, but there's no room for it. But there is one free IDE slot available, so we went to the store and found a IDE to SATA converter - more specifically one of these things:

But we just cannot get the damn thing to show up. I assume you need to set it as master, but his comp can't even detect it. Does it have anything to do with the power cable?

Edit: Never mind. We solved it. Turns out it was a cable problem. Pardon the thread.
