Did a quick Search and couldn't find anything relevant. I'm playing a Vanguard, have most of my party - of which more than 50% loyal - and I'm still using my starter shotgun. Did I miss an upgrade somewhere?
Depends (vague-ish mid-game spoilers):
When the Illusive Man sends you to check on a Collector ship, half-way through that mission you to pick one of three additional weapons skills: Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle and the Krogan Claymore Shotgun. Pick the shotgun option and you get a fancy new one-shot fuck up someone's day in a hurry shotgun.
To me, female shepard is the "correct" shepard. I think the voice acting is just so much better, especially if you're a renegade. My roommate is playing a male shepard while I play my female, and he and I sort of agree that female shepard's delivery is better.
I have a fairly specific question about thane's mission. This won't mean anything to you unless you've played it already:
so, you come up the elevator after you kill the bounty hunter and there's that guard by the window, right? What happens if you pull the renegade trigger on him? I'm usually really good about hitting them but I think I must have looked away or something and I didn't see it until it was just vanishing.
It autosaves right after you talk to him, too What happens?

All right, I have to hop on here to give Mark Meer some props. The dude did a awesome job as male shep this time around. No disrespect for Ms. Hale, but it's going to be pretty hard adapting to femshep this play through. Meer really nailed it this time.
I'm going to have to disagree. Playing through the intro his words just come across as...uninspired. Jennifer Hale puts emotion into her voice. Meer just sounds like he's reading lines. I don't think he's believable.
yeah, male shep has some really badly delivered lines
It's sad. When I heard the lines from the trailers and stuff, he sounds good. He's putting heat into those words. When he's talking to Illusive Man the first time? He barely puts anything into it. Listen to him say "You need to earn the right to ask me those questions." He doesn't care. He's a man just spitting out lines. Jennifer Hale brings the fury.
When am I supposed to be picking up the last 4? I've got everyone that was in the dossiers. And now I'm going to the planet with Ashley on it. Did I miss a shitload of stuff?
Also cloak and punch works really well once you get the upgrade that increases melee power. With that and assassin cloak I can kill most dudes in one hit, assuming their shields/armor are gone.
Of course, cloak > cryo rounds > melee shatter is a lot more fun

QA doesn't give two shits, they've got to ship the game on two platforms at a set date, and the goal is to not have the main character charge and clip into the wall.
The PC version is all kinds of broken, I had to pry into the game's asshole just to get it to run.
What exactly did you have to do? It just worked for me. (Well... The digital download unlocker got screwed up, but that's because EA didn't QA the unlocker, and it fixing it was just editting a text file.)
On a PC note though: Does anyone else feel that ME2 is actually loading SLOWER than ME1? It take a couple of minutes for me to use the elevator on the Normandy (except to go to my room.)
Single core CPU.
The game would not load unless you dummied the load.blk files, and even then you had to know how to wring it because when the IFF portion of the game happens, you had to have some specific load.blk videos there, functioning.
It was ironic, as by replacing the idiotic 720p .blk loading screens (WHICH INCREASE LOAD TIMES BECAUSE THE CPU HAS TO PLAY BACK A 720p VIDEO WHILE LOADING A LEVEL - whoever thought this up was a straight up genious) with dummy files, the loading between levels took at maximum 4-5 seconds, and the framerate through the general game with all settings at maximum (at a resolution of 1080) was 40-50 FPS.
When am I supposed to be picking up the last 4? I've got everyone that was in the dossiers. And now I'm going to the planet with Ashley on it. Did I miss a shitload of stuff?
Yep.
When you get to Ashley, you find out she is the final Reaper, and then you fight it out, and the game ends.

You shove him out the window and also there might have been a little quip about not needing to shoot him.

Fact, if you killed Ashley on Virmire, you saved the Galaxy. Kaidan is not a reaper.

Ya'll went with Liara first time around? Please. She was too easy.
Ashley was hard, and worth it. Damn she fine.
The most difficult part of romancing Ash in ME1 is that if you're also romancing Liara at the same time (hey, don't judge me!) it's really, really easy to shut off the progression of Ash's romance without noticing.
I was expecting a "Hey, PolyamoryShep, we need to discuss this" showdown scene like the one I got when my FemShep pitched woo at both Kaidan and Fanservice Space Elf, but instead I didn't find out Ash had turned me down until Liara showed up during the pre-Ilos cockblocked by Joker scene.

I read somewhere that there would be ramifications in the third game if you cheated on your romance. I don't see how. I could see if it were possible to pick back up on that romance in this game and rebuild it, but you've both moved on.
I've picked my new alien lover and I'm not looking back. Even though I got him killed...maybe Kaidan will take me back.
Think I'm going to switch over from adept to infiltrator for my insanity run, just not feeling the love with only the pistol and smg while every single enemy looks like a walking sniper rifle headshot.
So seeing as I'm still puttering around with maybe 4 characters, all of which are halfway through ME1, should I just give up, download a character file for the choices I want(ed) to make, and start my first run through of ME2? Or should I buckle down and stick it out?

Nah dude is just a bit aloof. Dude shep is just more chill about things. When something gets to him you can hear it though. Dude shep is a very collected badass. I love how he can talk to someone at gunpoint with the same tone he would use to discuss weather.

I'd have preferred a reaper to that preachy asshole.
Okay guys, don't spoil anything TOO MUCH but I just have to know. Not too big of a spoiler, it comes from the first time you meet the collectors:
My love interest was Ashley from the first game. It had a huge emotional impact on me and how I played the game - absolutely fantastic.
That said, I didn't expect the conversation to go the way it did. Please tell me that's the only option I had - and that I'll see her again on the Citadel.
If that's all I get of my Ash I'm gonna be really pissed.
that's it, man. sorry.
Is it like that for all of the previous romances? I was going to stick with Liara, but man... I guess they want to punish you for sticking with them in this game?
Considering LIara is DEFINATELY still alive, you think they could have had her along properly. It would have been interesting if she was a ship crewmember, but didn't go on missions, and if you had to persuade her during the game that you were on the side of good.

The reason why your old romances aren't recruitable is because the devs wanted to make sure they were alive for the third game. Since anyone and everyone is killable in this game they couldn't be sure their first loves would make it into the third game.
Although, I say it's a good thing. The new cast members are waaaay better than the old.

Have you ever finished ME1?
If no, then stick with it. The closer you get to the end, the more awesome it gets.

I agree with this man. I'm thinking about doing a secondary canon save for ME1 so I can have a proper renegade.

Does anyone have a complete or near complete list of weapon locations to scan/pick up? Seems like I should have more guns.

Yes, running through ME1 once is recommended if only so that you get the full story. It doesn't take very long to do if you stick to the main missions.
I know it goes without saying, guys but seriously...
SERIOUSLY
EDI had the best Jokes in the entire game. Her + Joker = freakin' GOLD.
Going up and talking to Joker after each mission was a real treat, and it only gets better.. they had me busting up for real more than a few times, especially towards the end

Even the crewmembers who return from the previous game are better now than they were. Basically everyone who I wished would just harden the fuck up in the first game has done so.

How did you guys talk to her, whenever I went to her in the front of the ship I could only ask her the same things and her and Jokers jokes ran out after like the 4/5th time for me, he kept going on about breaking his thumb on the mute button. I kept expecting to be able to engage her in dialogue but it never happened. Though I did forget to go to her after
