Walk in a line and press X for five hours is "starting great" apparently
I'm glad I didn't get to the horrid part
And Rent don't even try to say this isn't true, it may change later in the game (and I hear it does and I'm willing to believe it), but I literally was going through battles doing nothing but hitting Auto-battle. If it takes longer than five hours for your game to become good or intriguing, you have failed as a game designer, please deposit your testicles between the two nearest scissor blades and squeeze the handle so your only legacy to this world is a poorly-paced (at the very least) but pretty distraction.
Well maybe it's because I've been playing games like Team Fortress 2 and Mass Effect 2, but lately I've been able to see games for what they are. As an example, I was playing pokemon soul silver and realized its just pressing the right attack, calling in the right pet, rinse and repeat. JRPGS are the same exact thing, press attack, select potion, select magic etc. As my daughter said tonigh, "Wow dad the game looks pretty". Until Gran Turismo gets here, thats good enough for me. I can see how people who waited for FF13 for all this time must of been pretty pissed off though. I always see people either hate it or love it.
i mean i'm not opposed to people still making games for people who like those things
i'm also not opposed to the japanese making hentai games for dateless losers
whatever, man
but i want to see shooters and beat em ups and shit even fighting games gang up on RPGs and take all their nice shit
all that character customization and story branching and dialogue paths and all that shit
not all video games ever need to go this route. there's still a lot of room for strong, character-driven story where the creators fo the game have a specific protagonist in mind and they want you to play through that person's story
that's cool
but since so many video game protagonists are boring (often mute!) ciphers with no personality or history
The good ones have a strategy to them and some added depth. Like pokemon, as you said, is just pressing the right attack, calling in the right pet, rinse and repeat, but the core mechanic has a pretty deep rock paper scissor kind of element mechanic and learning how to create the right team, and even though I haven't played any pokemon past crystal there's apparently a pretty deep breeding system.
I mean, it's easy to break most things down into simple elements, but there are other things to it. Fighting game and brawlers are just selecting the right attacks and know when to defend, and shmups are just holding down the fire buttons and dodge bullets, but there's alot more than that.

If you're mashing auto-battle throughout the beginning, you're getting terrible ratings regardless of if you're winning or not

I found that mashing autoattack will get you 4-5 stars easy for a long long time, then at a certain point (Chapter 7?) All of a sudden you get a single start for battles unless you change it up a bit. But you can seriously auto attack for more than 10 hours and still get good ratings.
I had a fun night. We needed to blow off some steam, so we hit up several different stores tonight just for fun. Also, sorry for the bad pictures. The lighting in my room is horrible except during the middle of the day.
The first thing I got was Rainbow Six Vegas from the mall's Gamestop for my fiance's little brother. (He just got a 360 but only has Skate 2.) I left it in the car on accident, so no picture.
I then bought Pokemon SoulSilver from a local game store for 5 bucks. I do want it, but my fiance and I do not play Pokemon until we both have a copy. So, I sold it to the Gamestop near Kmart for 20 bucks. I used 7 bucks to pay off the last of our Kirby's Epic Yarn pre-order.
Went inside Kmart, found PSP A/V cables on clearance for 5 bucks. Drove across town for the only copy of Daxter with a case. Stopped at the Gamestop in same parking lot as The-Gamestop-that-had-Daxter and bought Wipeout Pulse. (Gamestop buying EBGames really screwed up the location of stores in my city.) While there, I finally upgraded my Gamestop card. Mostly because I wanted the B2G1 coupon and my fiance desperately wanted last month's Game Informer with Catwoman on the cover.
Thankfully, my city is large enough to have 10+ game stores, but small enough to not waste gas hitting several in one trip.
We also hit a few clothing and jewelry stores, but didn't buy anything.

Nope, five stars consistently, until just before I stopped, where I was getting four.
Not that stars matter at all, in any way, whatsoever. Winning a battle's all you need to do, and oh look, the game even heals for you!

Woah...I leave for a day and the goose levels just spiked. But I don't think I ever see an argument about RPGs that doesn't turn out that way.

Basically. When you understand the core concepts of a game, they're all pretty easy. What is most important is how fun they are. I mean hell, most FF battle systems are pretty easy.
And I will say I did have a lot of fun with FFXIII battle system. Problem was I didn't have much fun with anything else.
That's why I say it fell short.
Though I will say I agree with UB on one thing. I really think the silent protagionist needs to die. But I don't think that just because a guy is mute that I'm that guy.
A couple of them should/will stick around like Link or Gordon Freeman, but for the most part I think they're likely going to be more or less gone for good pretty quickly here.
Yeah, if Link ever talked, I think that would weird me the fuck out. Though it didn't bother me so much when Mario did. Of course, Mario's always had his own separate personality, and the Zelda games do try - in their own small way - to make you feel like what's happening to Link is happening to you. You get to name him, for example.

Damn dude, the collectors edition of that is like $300 aus.
Not really. The big $300 Signature Edition we get is way bigger than the US collectors edition (they only get a collectors edition, no signature edition). That's like our collectors edition (which is not much more than regular price, and doesn't include much) and the model car.
How the hell are you winning games via the Subway contest. Not through the pepper game, right? And apparently their Twitter has stopped doing Fire Frenzy games.

Yeah I won em through the pepper game, done now though since I've won a 2 and 3 level prize and don't wanna get greedy or not get em cause of too many emails.
I just received Tron ni Kobun (The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Japanese version. WAY cheaper than the American version and the MML2 demo is separate from the final version, meaning that it is a separate "episode" as opposed to a mere demo like what the American version got.
I now have a complete console Mega Man Legends collection. The one I'm missing is the cell phone one, but there is no way to get ahold of it.
my 360 elite just gave me two flashing red lights yesterday
so i left it off for a day and now I turn it back on and it gave me two flashing red lights again
is my 360 fucked hardcore y/n
if so, is the new 360 compatible with the old hard drives
The new 360 is not compatible with the old hard drives (In the enclosure), but assuredly the new 360 has a larger hard drive than your current unit anyway, so I'm not sure why you would want to carry over your old one.

Because if you don't need the HD/headset, it's $100 cheaper to buy the 4GB model.

Pony made a post the other day that pretty much sums up how I feel about RPGs anymore, I should find it
whut, its shallow in that its not complex and repetitive in that you do it a lot, but not in any negative way
Yeah I know what post your talking about Unbreakable.
Me and you disagree on a lot of things, but also agree in certain fundamental ways. Tis something ive noticed. Not to be creepy or anything.
Better game than ME 1 though, which is just a really bad RPG. :P
Anyways, EO III tomorrow/Wednesday is all any of you should really care about.
