Video cards hate me.

So, I my brother got a video card for X-Mas, and I tried installing it for him. When I put it in and turned it on, the fan on the card would spin up, but I would get no signal out. After much head scratching, we RMA'd the thing, and the new one is doing exactly the same thing.

I have a feeling I'm being a moron and over looking something. Any idea what I'm doin' wrong, or do I have spectacularly shitty luck.

You hooked the power cable up to it, right?

Before you pulled the old card out, did you uninstall the drivers for it? Is the new card the same brand (ATI or nVidia) as the old one? How old was the old card? What's the wattage of the power supply on the computer?

If the motherboard has onboard video then you may have to turn that off in the bios.
