So you know the Standard Asian Ditty that gets played on TV and in movies whenever they show something from China or Japan? The whole "dikka-dikka dik dik dik dik DNNNG" thing? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's featured in the song Turning Japanese.)

What is that? Is it from an actual song, or something? Where did it come from? I've never heard it as anything but that single stand-alone riff.

    From what those two links conclude. It's just a scale and someone took it and said "hey this is totally asian!!!!" and no one really claimed it.

    This song gets used a lot in Chinese movies.

    Under the General's Orders. Actually this version is the one they used as the theme in 'Once Upon a Time in China' entitled 'A man should better himself'.
