Off-topic, but I just read somewhere that the
Kanto region - this isn't a spoiler, is it?
is involved in Heart Gold/Soul Silver in some way. For me, that's very exciting. I was going to buy Platinum, but now I'll hold off...
the opportunity to make an all-old school Poke team is too enticing.
Anyone have any details on how this is going to work? I never played Gold or Silver (went from Blue to Pearl, kind of a big jump), so I'm curious.

Sorry if the spoiler tags are unnecessary... I'm not a part of the PA Pokemon community yet, so I don't know if you guys do extensive research or if you like to be surprised by new content.

After the Johto region's Elite 4, you get to go back to Kanto and fight all the gym leaders and ELite 4 there. Was the best part about GSC. Two pokemans games in one. The Kanto part of it was basically a continued story from RBY.

Yeah but it doesn't do jack to cynthia, as I recall. I am on Platinum.

A houndoom on the other hand takes care of the bug guy and the psychic guy. My vaporeon takes care of the fire guy.

My team right now is roserade, vaporeon, rapidash, raichu.

    This needs fixing.
Roserade is not your problem here. Raichu is far less useful, Rapidash is only ok, where's your starter?
You'll really want a full team of six for the E4.
Roserade is great with stuff like Leaf Storm, Sleep Powder and Leech Seed. It can do a good amount of damage against Spiritomb, Garchomp and Milotic. It won't OHKO probably but it can hurt 'em.

Alright then, guess it was only a spoiler for silly me. That's reeeally exciting - I respect the depth that Pokemon has in the current generation, but I'm a real sucker for the original 150. Not that I can't find newer Pokes to love - I just yearn for simpler times, I think. I'm nostalgic.

The fact that you can fight all of the gym leaders and Elite 4 of the Kanto region kicks ass. Sorry, Johto Pokemon... you're just placeholders until I get back to the promised land. What about any Pokemon I might nab at the end of my Kanto adventures? Will there be a way to level them up that doesn't entail crazy grinding? Is that perhaps the time for a New Game+, so to speak?

So what's up with that one old woman in each generation that asks the player to stay overnight over and over? Is that a reference to something Japaneseish?

I believe she's only in the latest two gens but at any rate all it amounts to is a Pokemon center that takes your money and doesn't let you know about it until you exit and wonder where the hell your cash went.

Wow, so I had an interesting day. I went to my local mall for the gamestop pichu event today and after I got it I went around the mall to check other places. There I saw a guy around the same age as me, playing pokemon in the middle of the mall. Not in the gamestop where one would think to see other people play pokemon. He was just standing in the middle of the mall. No one was there at the gamestop with their DS open and talking about pokemon in there.

So I walk up to him, noticed he has the platinums and asked him if he wanted to battle. He had a confusing look on his face when I asked him this though. As if he didn't expect those words to come out of my mouth. And he replied "fuck yeah." We had a quick battle though, a good old fashion 3 on 3 with no legendary pokemon. I was frigging excited about this. To me it was like, MAN, what kind of pokemon is he going to throw out? Should I go more defensive and pick my types carefully or should I just assault him with my highest level? The fact that this person to me was completely random and we just decide to duel was awesome.

After the match (derp derp lost to Garchomp) we said our congrats to each other we both had a good time and we even TRADED POKEMON. THE FUCK? AND A TRADE? This has never happened to me before. Its like what my childhood should have been but never was with blue or red. He told me to do a blind trade so we pretty much didn't tell who were giving. So I see my voltorb go away and what do I see next? A level 45 Umbreon, FFFFFFFFFFFF WHAT? UMBREON? All that time he spent being friendly with that eevee at night and leveling up I was like why would you ever do that. He simply told me "To me, trading pokemon you spend time leveling or are even in your party and trading it away makes pokemon more interesting to me and the person who gets my pokemon." Him saying that made me feel like a dick. I didn't think he would give me something as cool as a Umbreon, a pokemon I need for my collection. He saw my voltorb and said "This one will make a fine Electrode."

After that we said our farewells and continued on with my day. Shit like this doesn't happen normally. You don't just find someone playing pokemon, standing around, where no games are in sight. But I am glad that I had a fun time.

You are correct, it doesn't help so much with Platinum Cynthia. Diamond/Pearl Cynthia has a Gastrodon, that goes down hard to Roserade's STAB Grass attacks.

Riokenn: That is an awesome story. I imagine every day in Japan to be like that, but that's because I am a bigot. Guess you should spend some more time at the mall! Are you from a big city in CT, or a smaller area? I'm inspired by your story to waltz through New Haven with my DS held high and meet kind-hearted, respectful Pokemon Masters like the one you encountered.

Considering I spend several hours every day wandering around campus between classes and such, I see no reason not to clip it on somewhere out of immediate view. It looks like it'll be small enough to hide on my person without trouble. Only my local game store knows for sure!

My other two slots are utility pokemon. A golduck with surf, strength, waterfall, and rock climb, and a staravia with Fly.

I only had the Raichu so I could beat Crasher Wake's gyarados. Roserade (roselia at the time) wasn't cutting it. Rapidash sucks. And my starter is grass type. So I mean...two grass types and all. I prefer roserade.

It's really hard to get rare Pokémon, and you have to have more 8000 steps gained before you try to get those. AND when you DO get the fucker, it will either knock your poké out or escape.

The itemfinder/dousing machine is bullshit, too.

Apparently the slot machines in HGSS have been replaced by another game for all versions outside of Japan.

Anyone know why? I would assume it's because of those European laws that made them take the Game Corner out of platinum, but then why is it out of the American version?

E4 with Amulet Coin is worth good money and usually good EXP in most games, so I just do that and then buy the coins.

It was extremely annoying to do the actual purchasing of the coins in RBY pre stadium.

You get more money in HGSS's Elite Four, or at least that's the impression I get from it, but I still wasted money on vitamins I didn't need and now I'm too poor to train pokés that need the vitamins I don't have and I don't want to grind the Elite Four at the moment, haha.

Fucking original GSC Elite Four...those bastards.

Sure the money was good, but the exp? Bleh. One of my major problems with the game as it set the trend of underleveled gym leaders that arguably got worse in RSE.

4th Gen fixed that and I'm glad that they rectify it a bit later in these remakes.

You could rake up plenty of money in Platinum by fighting Gym leaders in that club, then going around picking fights with wealthy people. Can you do the same sort of thing in HGSS?

Out of curiosity, how's the endgame battling in HGSS? Did they make it as fully featured as Platinum?

Endgame battling? I'm not sure what you mean by that, but the Elite Four gets really hard (though not nearly as hard as Red) after beating Red. There is no Vs. Seeker in HGSS, so you have to rely on calls, but I haven't tried them since I am fine with the EV training spots I found.

I also haven't bothered to do the Double Battle against Lance and Clair.
