Did that. Still died. Only member of the final ground team to do so.
Weird. Thought that would've done it. I sent him back with the crew in my game before I heard of it being a problem though.
I think casualty count has to do with who you pick to lead the various teams as well. I should have just stuck with Garrus, but I felt like make Jack deserved a chance to prove she wasn't a screwup.

haha, that does seem like a poor decision.

That may very well be it. Optimal choices seem to be:
Vents: Tali or Legion
Shield: Samara/Morinth or Jack
Leader: Miranda or Garrus
Escort: Anyone Loyal
If you feed the vendor's varren it becomes your friend and follows you around everywhere.
And the Wrex reunion scene... when he shouts "Shepard! My friend!" as you push your way past the guard, and the original ME theme starts playing... I got a little choked up when he said 'friend'
The Wrex reunion is the only one that felt emotionally moving. On Horizon Ashley did nothing but berate me. Liara was cold and sounded rather stupid.
That's so messed up too, only wrex seems genuinely happy to see you. tali and garrus seemed more like they were surprised to see you and then just dropped a "oh, and it's good to have you back." don't get me started on kaiden and ashley, goddamnit and liara has just flat out moved on to being her mother.
seriously wanted female shep to hug wrex. that guy is the greatest.

Garrus had just spent like 5 days shooting dudes in the face and was probably a little tired, while Tali says some of the nicest things anyone in the game says to you in her loyalty mission.
Wow. Insanity as an Adept really sucks. Like, really, really, really sucks.
Also some way to skip the starting cutscenes would be v. nice. I've seen then like ten times already.
Yeah, this is something I'm realizing, too. It's okay once you get a few people to flesh out the party, but have fun if you run into shields and only have one tech person! Bonus points if they die.

Yeah I'm not seeing the issue when it comes to Tali and Garrus. They were both pretty happy to see you, Tali especially. Garrus was worn the fuck out.
Liara though is kinda...muted. Very lack lustre reception there I have to admit, especially if you're romancing her.

once you get Urz the Varren following you around, you can put him in the varren pit fighting ring. for me it seems like he has a 2/3 success rate. also, if he loses he does not actually die, you just have to leace tuchanka then come back
Just beat Mass Effect 2. Awesome, awesome game. I loved almost the whole thing. Since it would be easier to point out the things I didn't like (since there were only 3) I'll do that.
The first thing I didn't like was how powerful enemy biotics were compared to player biotics. It felt like any enemy biotic that hit me would strip all of my shields, where as enemy shields completely protected them from my biotics. I wish this was more balanced.
The second issue I had was armor. I found it really annoying that enemies could get an armor health bar, but my characters didn't. Again, to me it's a matter of fairness. I think it would have been cool to have an armor health bar just like enemies that didn't recharge.
My third issue was resource collection. It was so damn important to the game (needed for any and all upgrades) but so freaking boring. I think it would have been far better had it simply been a quick mini game like the match the pattern hacking game then having to slowly scan each world. It really stripped enjoyment from the game.
Even with those three issues, though, it was still an outstanding game, and will definately be on my mind for the 2010 GOTYs.
No, renegade doesn't mean evil. But paragon doesn't have to be synonymous with "naive and ignorant" either.
Choices are hard, yes. But I hate how "accepting that hard choices need to be made" makes you a Renegade. Don't twist the issue.
Shooting first in a conversation. That's renegade. Or shutting off the comlink during a meeting with the citadel. I mean shit, Renegade and Paragons are words they chose because they already have their own meanings which can be quickly and clearly understood, yes? Mordin's choice doesn't count as 'renegade.'
Most of the choices in the game are fine and logicly defensible whether they push you one way or another. This one just takes way more squinting. That to be the "Paragon" of society, I have to fight for Galactic War.
Preventing mass war and genocide by limiting breeding in a race which would otherwise fucking boom in numbers and take over the galaxy... That's not "renegade."
Forcibly causing the krogan to give birth to stillborn children a huge majority of the time in order to prevent another horrific war is absolutely the definition of renegade.
You favor the renegade option here. That's okay.
Actually it seemed like they retconned the nature of the genophage in ME2. In the first game, Wrex explicitly says
the genophage causes most pregnancies to result in stillbirths and makes references to obstetrics clinics.
But when you talk to Mordin he says
it only make krogan infertile, and says the genophage was designed not to kill anything. Also on Tuchanka they talk about how valuable fertile females are.
Which I'm kinda OK with, it looks like they wanted the genophage to be morally ambiguous, which is kind of hard in the former.

He says it reduces fertility to a more sustainable rate.

I actually like the resource collection this time. A little minigame to break up the intense firefights.
I see videos where kelly dances for you after bringing her up, but if I bring miranda up she doesn't. is there some way to make this happen that i'm missing?

Liara definitely went through some serious shit in those two years. That depressed me. What happened to my blue nerd with the stutter and wide-eyed optimism? I get to Ilium and she's threatening to explode people and always, always giving me the evil eye, which makes her look like she spends too many nights awake cradling a gun and watching the door.

You're correct, that's what I meant to say.
It still sounds like they switched from stillbirths to poorer fertility to control krogan population.
The krogan who rants forever on the balcony makes a comment about dead krogan babies, IIRC. The genophage always made 1/1000 births viable, Mordin just gives us the reason why this is so instead of just sterilizing all krogan.
So did everyone choose Garrus to lead their fire teams? Reading the thread it sure sounds like it.
Thought long and hard about my choices. Thane catching a stray bullet trying to close the doors was a kick in the teeth (but I guess he was dying anyway), Grunt got eaten by bugs (I'd blame Samara and her 'I'm tired' shit, but he kept wandering out of the shield throughout the mission. Bound to happen eventually), and Jack bought it holding the door.
One dying man, one psycho, and one saviour of the Krogan race.
Nothing of value lost
good game, would play again a++

Jacob also works well as a team leader.
The only ones I lost (i just beat the game) were Chambers (got liquefied) and the chef as well as some random crew members. My team survived though. Woo 8-)

Lessons from ME2:
If you're nice to a chick most will want to bend over for you.
I just started the suicide mission, and I need a little help.
On the second part, where you're walking around in the biotic bubble, who are you supposed to send on the backup team? I tried Zaeed, but he took a shot to the gut. Then I tried Grunt, but same thing. Since they both mentioned their shields gave out, I tried Legion next, but he drops too. I'm tempted to just let it go and accept the lost... but I'm also dead set on getting everybody through. Everybody's loyal, so that's not an issue. So, what's the magic choice to pick so they live?

Ah, I guess I'm wrong then. I remember Mordin rationalizing the genophage by saying
it caused no loss of life but it's possible he wasn't counting the dead babies as lives yet.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

I can only assume that in ME3 if you aren't faithful to her she'll totally turn into her evil mother. not working with the reapers or anything but not that sweet blue gal you met in the prothean ruins.
