Tonight i need to check out what's available with the 1st level exploration badges you get. Anything worthwhile?
Some of it's neat yeah, check the guys inside the center of the Sol station and the upstairs of the Shipyard to look at what they offer. It's a good way to fill in a hole that the rng loot has left. I think I picked up another expose gun or two for my BO's, but the Star ship guns/components aren't bad either.

Do I look like the sort of man who'd go and find unsuspecting Japanese schoolgirls in short skirts and white panties and ask them if they want to see my "Cthulu Special"?
So just to prevent myself from making a stupid mistake -- the special unlock items like the turrets and bloodwine et all -- they're available for ALL characters, not just one?
Yes. Bonuses are account-wide. C-Store items will likely be as well (e.g. if they release uniforms, ships, races). The only things that are single-use are likely going to be captain renames and respecs. However, if you sell your special armor or delete your Borg bridge officer, you aren't getting it back for that character.
No, people just misunderstood what they were getting. Same happened with the Lifetime Borg, also only getting 4 traits.
Out of curiosity, is anyone enjoying the Neural Blast? I didn't take it on my Feddie (and actually, I'm done with that Feddie and going to switch it out for something else entirely), but I'm about to start a Klingon and will likely go Lib again, so I have the option staring me in the face.
As an aside - I'm quite disappointed with how females look on the Klingon side. They literally have no definition on their torso skin... no cleavage or anything... it's just a featureless polygon. I'm not looking to get off, but it just looks so bizzare, especially when the Klingon women uniforms show chest skin by default.

I took NB on my Lib Borg Klingon Engineer and I like it. And i'm remind how much I like it, everytime its used on me. 30 second debuff, reducing my speed to 75% normal, 40% chance of holding me EVERY 4 seconds for the entire debuff. I ground pvp on my Klingon 90% of the time though, so I might be biased.
With Neural Blast slowing and holding one Fed, Weapons Malfunction taking one Fed almost completely outta the fight, and 3 shield boosting powers on short and varying cooldowns, I can generally run into AND run out of any encounter (when I'm not chain held or exposed).
And yes, all Klingon factioned females have horrible customization options. The males have a little bit more, but theyre just as pitiful and generic. I'm hoping in time they give us more. Otherwise I'll have to continue looking generic as I lead my team to victory.
So far the Klingon gameplay is pretty fun, though the number of mouth-breathers melee spamming in ground missions is mind-numbing. Here's another Fed group of five with two holders, two sniper rifles, and one guy dropping bots. Here's our team with me on hold and four guys with melee weapons ready to leap into the meat grinder.

Hah, the only time I really see melee shine is KvK. And only due to the lack of Science officers on the Klingon side to hold them in place. Since bat'leth attacks bypass shields, I'll be honest, I pop Neural Blast on them and run the fuck away til I have some backup. If someone is running at you with a bat'leth instead of a weapon, he's probably spec'd for it and has a shit ton of life and resistances.
Is there a level point at which you start finding the rare Bridge Officers? I've been intentionally not spending all my crew skill points with the hopes of finding some better officers. I have no real attachment to the ones I have right now, and in fact a couple of them really suck so I haven't bothered to build them up.

Boff points are easy to come by and you'll probably end up swapping officers out a few times before admiral anyway, i'd just spend them.
Level LC7 (17), almost 18. With the influx of new Episodes, I should hit 21 tomorrow, maybe. I like to humour myself into thinking I'm keeping up with the rest of everyone in the thread, but somehow I doubt it.
No worries, I'm only level 10.
And I'm level 9.
Between all the server downtime, Mass Effect 2, and work/life, I've spent way too little time on this game.

Just out of curiosity, what makes them suck? Do they just not have the abilities you want? I've ended up spending a fair amount of Merits at the BOff abilities store, trying to get the exact BOff powers that I want.
Yeah, my Tactical Officer has Leg Sweep, which is trash. I haven't spent the merits cause I keep hoping I find a free one. But I guess I need to just go spend some money and get her a better skill.
I also got a male Bolian. He sucks because he's a male Bolian.
I kept getting Andorian BO's, so I spent the merits to swap out all of my BO's to the races I like more. Then any skills I want I'll just spend the merits to train them when its required.

Where, when and how do you use the transwarp I keep hearing people talk about?
If you don't see it on your toolbar, hit the 'P' key and bring up your powers list and drag it onto your toolbar. It instantly takes you back to Earth Spacedock and has a 30 minute cooldown.
Unless there's a keyboard short cut I don't know about, and there probably is, hit "p" to bring up your Powers menu. Find Transwarp and drag it to your power bar. Now you can Warp from anywhere on a sector map straight to the Sol System, has a 30min cool down though
EDIT: Damn, beaten like a red headed stepchild jeesh

So theres a pretty active thread going on the Official forum's "Klingon and PVP" section about whether something is an exploit or not.
Apparently people have been joining space pvp games without shields and running to their deaths as fast as possible in attempts to end the match quicker. Since match losers are still given rewards for their efforts (and there are Klingon PvP quests to die X amount of times) this basically enables them to get more points losing fast, rather than winning long drawn out games. Yes, this is an old trick, but I kinda wanted to see where ya'll stood on the subject.
So my question is, in a PvP system where losers are still rewarded for their effort, do you consider it cheating/exploiting to intentionally lose fast? Do you even care? Is the player more to blame or the developers for not having a system in place to punish them?

It's basically a hearthstone that takes you to the SOL starbase. it's in your abilities menu (p)
EDIT: lol beated' twice!
But yeah, it's useful.
It'd be more useful if it was quicker to get back from Sol to anyplace useful.
I say that, but I just ended up starting up stuff 1 sector north of Sol, so... who knows?
Also: Someone was reporting in game yesterday that STO has already hit 1 million subs / lifetimes / accounts / etc. That's ... a lot.
Also2: Apparently I have the ability to make a Joined Trill. I preordered from Steam Digital Deluxe and got the lifetime sub. Not sure if it's a bug or not.

Anyone go to the recruitment officer and try an 'unknown' candidate yet? I'm wondering if that allows you to create custom alien crew...

Hah ditto. With 15 kill limit ground pvp games, my Klink would be pushing Capt by now. As it stands I'm barely LTC17.
Nothing at all, I actually like the little space-jews.
The lvling is still quite fast. I'm LT8 and not even trying. I guess it slows down once you hit ltco.

Overall it's enjoyable, but definitely needs more polish. I do think though Cryptic have done quite well with the ST franchise and it's good fun.

Does this game have free trial codes or something? All the cool MMOs are doing it

They're supposedly fixing that. They're also fixing the inability to assign bonus uniforms to BOs.

MWO: Adamski
lunge, if you can find it.
Photon grenades (not plasma), and the self damage buff. Optical...something. Has a aoe 10% chance to expose, and a short start up.
You want to avoid giving your officers anything with a long start up, because in most cases stuff will be dead faster if they just shoot their guns.
edit: Scabies is right. the melee skills aren't bad at all; short cast time and they do damage.
Are you serious?
well, has a chance to, if the action would cause enough damage to kill. you know how the yellow X shows up on weapon abilities? it can do that.

All DDEs got the Joined Trill.
Yup. I made my alien BO look exactly like my alien alt captain by using the save/load feature.
