CoH came a long way after release. They never put in a real endgame, but they added quite a few missions and superhero fleet actions (I forget what they're called.) CO isn't really a good gauge for their support style.
Actually I'm using CoH as the primary gauge, because CO was such a mess it's hard to evaluate as a whole. Your second sentence speaks to the heart of the matter - Cryptic has yet to design an MMO with a substantial end-game, focusing their post-launch resources on more levelling content and 'fluff.'
You've got a very large group of customers who aren't interested in eight alts, which is all creating new leveling content serves. Once I reach level cap, I am attached to the one (or two) characters and want to keep doing things with them. WoW understood this, released a major end-game content patch every 3-4 months, and kept me playing four years.
I'm not expecting Blizzard level competence out of Cryptic, but if your game that's dependent on perpetual subscriptions gets boring after a couple months, you have a problem.

What kind of worries me is the idea that it will turn out that the business model does work. Between pre-orders and lifetime subs, as well as the various character slot and cosmetic purchases, maybe Cryptic's strategy is "get license with built-in audience, create game based on engine that's basically already developed, hype, release." And if that does work, I think maybe the genre is headed towards a low point.

Oh believe me, I'm not an alt-a-holic either. I'd prefer end game stuff to do as well. I'm just saying that I trust that Cryptic will continue to work on STO.
I'm more upset with their total lack of communication. I submitted a ticket on like day 2 because I was double billed. I downloaded the game through Impulse, and was then required to submit my CC to Cryptic for a sub. Fine, I figure, sorta makes sense. Then I get hit with ANOTHER charge. No, I wanted to purchase your game and use the time that came with my $50 to evaluate it.

so I'm in a science ship and with both Emergency Power to Shields and Science Team, I find myself A-OK on shields but the bleed-through damage and "oh shit" moments when they get through to hull for a second cause me problems. What is the preferred hull repair skill? Engineering team?
Looks like there's a patch tonight. Hopefully it will address more than just the rubber-banding issues.
* Option to hide all non-friend players
* System for downrating (and hiding) retarded ship names
* All klingon NPCs now charge players to melee in ground combat. Some were attacking from range. Such dishonor!
* Viral Matrix has a chance to backfire. Also, Science Team is now available for use while immobilized by Viral Matrix.
* Fixed Dynamic Lighting for AMD/ATI cards.
* Sulu now contacts you. Dumbfuck.
* Autopilot can set courses for systems outside of your block. Just double click in the mission log!
* Option added for completing a mission before fulfilling its objectives.
* Option to duel players of the same faction

The hull repair skills I've got are:
Engineering Team -- good solid repair and strong defensive buff. Depends on Engineering Team Leader, Starship Engine Maintenance, Starship Hull Repair. Boosts Engineering skills executed while it is active.
Hazard Emitters -- good solid repair and strong defensive buff. Depends on Starship Operations, Emitters, and Hazard System. This would probably be a good match since it depends on science skills.
The other hull repair skill I'm aware of but haven't tried is Auxiliary Power to Structural, which depends on having Aux up (which I generally don't). As a science ship, this also might be a good bet for you, although I don't know how effective it is. It's also a Lieutenant level skill.

with a +16 to all related skills, I would get a 8-9% total hull heal with aux to struc integrity (tier II).
engineer team (tier I) gives about 30% all at once, and hazard (tier I) gives under 30% as a HoT. tier two versions give even more

I'm not getting near as much as you are PikaPuff. What kind of ship are you running? On my heavy cruiser, I get +5662 or 21.7% with Engineering Team II and +4500 or 17.3% with Hazard Emitters I. I've got Engineering Team skill at 8 and Starship Engine Maintenance at 3 (not high level enough to get Hull Repair yet). I've only got 4 points into Starship Operations, and 2 points into Emitters. But I do have a +21 Emitters from my Deflector Dish.
No. Not anticipating much at all. Although they did say they were gonna patch in a borg quest hub this week. So we might see a few new quests for the upper levels. Not that it matters to me since I'm presently only 22. I've been taking my sweet time leveling because I'm in no hurry to reach cap and have nothing to do.
In fact, I'll probably quit leveling completely when I hit about 35 and start playing my alt fairly seriously. I figure I'll give 'em a couple months to get things patched up to speed before I worry about getting to 50. I've got a lifetime sub so I might as well pace myself.
Yeah, I'm guessing we will be seeing the first batch of Borg content tomorrow. If you look at the front page of the official website, they've reskinned it with a greenish Borg color, and where they used to have the Excalibur ship on display they now have a cube.

To bad there isn't an option [yet] that lets you set a universal uniform on everyone else. I don't know why that bugs me so it just does.

Hmmm. Very helpful, thanks guys. I'll have to give it all some thought. I'm nearly to commander so I'll rejigger all my skills when I get there. It does seem like having all emergency power to shields, science team, and hazard emitters would be pretty defense heavy. I'll see what offensive stuff I can find to round things out before I make a decision.
To be honest, I've had a hard time finding Tactical BO skills that I really care about other than High Yield Torpedo. It seems like Tactical just isn't that good. All the best BO skills are science and engineering. Things like Tachyon Beam, Viral Matrix, Science Team, Engineering Team, and Hazard Emitters are all way better than the stuff you can get from tactical.

I feel the same way about the uniforms. Something small like that is just a nice quality of life feature.
Although with the patch notes the autopilot to systems from double clicking the log is pretty nice. That'll save me a coupe extra seconds while I switch map views.

Where can you get the patch notes outside of the release notes section of the launcher?
The release notes section doesn't work for me lately.
On the main website, release notes are a sub-heading under the support tab at the top. Release notes are not yet up for tomorrow's patch. They also have a release notes section on the official forums.
The prospect of a patch has me all giddy. Waking up tomorrow morning to fresh patch notes is gonna be like Christmas.
Hopefully. Let's hope it's not like one of those Christmases where all you got was new socks and a fruitcake.
Are you guys really anticipating a big patch? I'm anticipating a "we fixed a few tiny things" patch.
IMO they really did an impressive job in the Open Beta patches. I was surprised at how much they managed to improve in such a short time. I'm hoping for some good stuff, but won't be surprised if it's mostly just bug fixes.

Yes, yes it is.

The drinking though has yet to show and really who cares anymore about the game even though it is much improved over what it was.
