I was always miffed by the "you get out of school what you put into it" concept. I mean, you get out of learning on your own what you put into it too. But one of those options involves you spending an extra few tens of thousands of dollars.
I agree with this saying. School opens up a lot of doors, but a lot of students don't take advantage of the oportunities tha open up as a result. I'm not only talking about the educational or technical aspect only (you can learn this on your own), I'm talking about the relationships that you build with mentors, professors and peers that may later bloom into career oportunities or networking communities. Let's not talk about workshops and conferences that you, as a student, have access to within campus, or the oportunity to do internships and be mentored by someone with experience.
This is what I always thought of when I heard "You get out of school what you put into it".
Okay, does anyone know where I can get the cross-sectional dimensions of commonly used channels and other extruded shapes?
I'm pages late on this but I have a book of the common steel cross sections and if you give me the size, I can give you the cross-sectional dimensions of it.

it seems like he painted the one with the creature that has buildings for arms and the dragon chasing the artist, but yeah, most of these are collages of 3D work and photos
cake is just miserable because he has all that technical ability and no imagination
I think photo collages are fine for production work (concept art...not illustration) but that doesn't mean I can't make wisecracks about it. Using a picture of a building to put a building into your environment is so terribly practical but so terribly mundane.
What scares me more is the amount of admiration people have for that sort of thing. I would love to be a fantastic concept artist but part of the reason I don't pursue it is because of the 'anything goes' mentality that you must have to get the job done. At the end of the day I want to feel proud of the work I am doing and while I would certainly love to have images like his in my portfolio, I think knowing how I produced them would nag at me.
That said my twofavorite images that were posted are probably the most heavy with photowork. I think that has more to do with my love for futuristic cities than anything though. These definitely take a lot of skill to put together, you need a keen eye for a lot of things that I do not have a keen eye for. But I just feel like there needs to be someone on here that shows some skepticism towards this kind of work or this community will spiral into the depths of CA.org style worship that really isn't productive.
I hate that I agree with you.
But I love that I can ask you when the fuck you're going to get off drawing naked people and get on to drawing something interesting for once.
Mars: God damn, I have to sleep sometime, I can't post here 24 hours a day like some of you tools.
Nixon: thanks, but I found a book yesterday. It'll probably be less frustration for both of us this way

I hate spam.
I especially hate it when they somehow discover my IM screenname.
I doubly especially hate it when they send me the messages while I'm offline, and the messages get sent to my phone.
They are costing me money, those assholes.

So, my boss is at HR explaining why I skipped 6 days of work. I hope this goes over well...

Mr. Toaster, why did you skip six days of work.

Bingo. Which I didn't get, by the way. But, I'm ready to face the worst. I knew that I could possibly be fired over this. Bring it on, I say.
Edit: Oh, thank you Jesus!!!! Situation defused. I've learned a lot from my boss, but by far the greatest thing I have learned from her is the power of speech. She can talk her way out of anything.
I'm pretty confident in my ability to talk my way into/out of any situation... but she is a master at it.
One guy at a company I worked for basically disappeared without any notice for three weeks. Didn't get fired. It's pretty hard to fire people here without having to pay a lot of compensation money to the employee.
Every job I've ever worked has had that at will employment shit. Where they can fire you for any reason whatsoever. Boss decides he doesn't like your face? You're gone.
Every company I've worked for had a policy where if you didn't show up for work 2 days in a row (some only 1 day) without notice, it would count as job abandonment and you could be terminated. Without compensation, because you abandoned the job.
As much as I love the office, it's kinda lost its appeal. Every episode used to be hilarious, now they're kind of hit/miss. I'm a huge fan of Parks and Recreation, though.

It seems like every show goes through that. Plot elements and relationship dynamics can only go so long without being resolved, so once that issue that had a certain segment of the population biting their nails is resolved, those people tend to find the show less interesting.

While I agree with that, it just seems as though everything is just getting more ridiculous in order to compensate for the main plots being resolved.

yeah, the simpsons are going through the same thing.
Although, it's probably exacerbated by the Office originally being a british show. They tend to use more understated humor.
So uh, I've got an oil palette that is kind of like a masonite board coated with white-board material. I've scraped off most of the excess but it's still pretty dirty.

And the fact that the Office is supposed to be a documentary about a real Paper company. The reality of the show and the crazy things that happen often clash which makes it less funny.
Yeah which is why I appreciate parks and recreation, while it is in the similar style as the office, being a mocumentary, the show started off with some fairly ridiculous 'crazy' things happening. Plus Ron fucking Swanson is the man.
Great. You can both wear little pink dresses and have a tea party together.
We do! Mr. Applebottom is a hoot! He will often get into the craziest antics with Fluffy and the Tea Cup, like this one ti... wait a minute.... you're making fun of us and our tea parties, arent you?

1. Throw that palette away.
2. Pick up one of these.
3. Go to Home Depot, get a 12"x16" piece of glass, put it in the bottom of palette. Put/mix your paints on the glass surface.
4. When you need to clean the palette, whip out one of these, and scrape it down. The paint will come right off. If it's still not as clean as you'd like, take a paper rag with some turp on it and rub it down.

What about coffee or divorce?
Just divorce
Coffee is best black.
I like sweet coffee, black or with milk, it doesn't matter. But my gf and her family will drink coffee with no sugar. Accccck!!! Horrible!!!
It's not too much to think that you might just be a sissy.
