Mistwalker+Nintendo Announce The Last Story Wii RPG from the creator of Final Fantasy
Basically what we have here is the guy who invented Final Fantasy making a new RPG for the Wii. It looks and sounds very Final Fantasy, and that's a good thing. It could be awesome or mediocre. But right now it's looking kind of awesome.
It's due out this year in Japan.
Also? How mad must Microsoft be that they bankrolled this company only to have it jump ship to Nintendo?
Could be interesting. Music is indeed nice and a new RPG is always welcome.
As for the company jumping ship, eh its not to suprising. I can't imagine there being a huge demand for RPG's on the Xbox. And of course its cheaper to make.
Hopfully it doesnt spend to long in the *Localisation stage.
*Getting drunk off their asses for 6-18 months before finally sobering up and thinking "Hey why dont we start on the english version"
Yes I know it's more complicated then that. I just hate waiting
Edit: Yeah if its anything like the last time he named something like that, there will be another 12 oveer the next two decades.
I'm going to try and wait to get excited for this one until they announce they're going to localize it. It'll be hard since Lost Odyssey is my favorite current gen jrpg.

Interesting. A game for the one system where he can't go nuts with the latest in CG.
Does this mean he's finally over his mother's death and has gotten back to making actual video games instead of trying to deny his pain by selling himself (and ostensibly others) on reincarnation via thinly-veiled feature-film wannabes?
Hopefully a better game too. But then again, every single Mistwalker game has disappointed me, especially the DS games. I don't really see this being any better.
In fact while I love Monolithsoft I don't really like the Xenosaga games very much so, umm, yay more Mitsuda music? Yay 5th gen pokemon announcement? Yay more solid Metroid release date?

Lost oddesy was a good game my problem was the clunky overworld and the fact that you got cinemas every ten seconds.
Blue Dragon though was full of manly fire even if the anime completely killed the franchise. Never played the Portable games. I'm hoping they're still making a direct sequel

I never played Blue Dragon because I remember the reviews saying the story was crap, and I need a good story if I'm going to be playing a game that is thirty hours long.

It's no worse than the utter nonsense of the final Fantasy games. It's easy to follow and the Characters are likable if a tad generic. The customization of your party is insanely addictive though.

Art style's not bad, but we an awesomely cheesy boss battle theme like Blue Dragon's "Eternity".
Just made a minor adjustment there.:P
On the one hand, Mistwalker's games thus far haven't exactly clicked with me (I lost interest in BD and LO a ways through both), and it looks like they've been cribbing from just about every JRPG cliche in the book in that artwork (seriously, are those Judges from FFXII and Tactics?).
On the other hand, the Wii needs more good RPGs, and Mistwalker does know what it's doing, so here's to hoping it turns out all right.
color me impressed. it looks like the early screens weren't completely bullshots after all. some of the animations certainly need work but the battle system and the aesthetics definitely has me intrigued.

I'll have to check this trailer out tonight. I loved Lost Odyssey so I'm hoping this one turns out to be just as good.
I haven't been following it too close though - is the combat like Final Fantasy, or are they changing things up?

it looks like its all in real time with cover environments that can be manipulated. in one shot, you see the player back up into a chest high wall and flip over it while still engaged in combat.
I liked being able to initiate preemptive strikes, like seen where he was hiding behind a slab of stone and shooting and enemy with a crossbow, or striking an unsuspecting enemy from behind cover.
Seems like the game also tells you the status of the enemy you're targeting too, since in the part where he attacked from cover the word "alone" popped up over the head of the enemy.

Why the Wii?
I'm impressed at the sheer chutzpah if it all.

Needs more weapons. Never have too many weapons.
The LAST Story.
I found the similarity in name alone hilarious.

I don't quite follow.
Nope. Don't get it.
I assume you are being funny?
I do not think it a stretch to think Final Fantasy and The Last Story were named for the exact same reasons.
I also don't think it a stretch to imagine that they hope The Last Story will turn out to be as ironic a name as Final Fantasy proved to be. :P
I was also being sarcastic. What now, Axen?

First, here's a new insert included with Xenoblade as an ad for Last Story:
And here's a lot of information and pics shamelessly stolen from GAF:
Famitsu scans (click for bigger):
Yeah, I think a localization announcement at E3 would really make my day.
Colour me intrigued.
But man, the artwork is impressive as hell.

Cover based JRPG?
It looks pretty cool. A lot of potential with the battle system.

so bad
"...only mights and maybes."
I'm hoping hoping hoping it's good.
Hopefully won't have to wait too long for an English release.
This actually looks kind of good.
DON'T LET ME DOWN.
Let's Plays of Japanese Games
Will it have online multiplayer with perks too?
Hope it has classic controller support.

It looks like Gears of War with swords.
