It was funny when the last challenge for Grunt's loyalty quest was fighting a thresher maw on foot, because I did that all the time in Mass Effect 1 since it gave you more xp, and eventually it was faster than in the Mako

That's why it was the final boss there, and that's why I went FUCK YEAAAAAAAH! when I saw it.
is a truly great character. When you ask him about the armour and he stumbles over the response, because he can't figure out why he acted like that, great moment.
Gameplay, I can get why they did it; you balance your encounters around a limited set of resources, and you force the player into relying more upon powers and squadmates. I just don't like it.
I think it also prevented me from doing my typical:
Drive in 2 clicks away from targets. Set up on hill with sniper rifle. Dead aim on Geth Collosus/snipers/whatever. Fire, adjust, fire, adjust, X5 minutes later. Done.
The Sniper Rifles in ME1 had endless range. All I needed was good dead reconing and time.
I think the lack of the Mako and planetary terrain levels was what really prevented you from doing that.
Hmm, I thought since I could pick a bonus power at the start that'd be permanent, instead I've now removed Reave for crappy Slam, it did not make this clear and Im trapped in a mission now.

Oh. Funny thing. You know in Thrane's recruitment mission:
I nearly one shotted the Gunship with my Widowmaker and maxed Disrupter Ammo. You can 'see' it a bit early in the mission. I lined up and went..hum?...I bet I have to fight that. BLAM. Dang, it ran. Made the actualy fight with it stupidly short. I love Sniping in this game. Assassin Shroud's damage bonus is so sweet.
Hmm, I thought since I could pick a bonus power at the start that'd be permanent, instead I've now removed Reave for crappy Slam, it did not make this clear and Im trapped in a mission now.
So the bonus power just removes an ability and replaces it with something else?

I actually am stuck with Reave, didn't know what it did, chose it, man do I regret it (Warp's way better anyway, and I already spent points for that).

How does it determine which power to remove?
I'm assuming it's the Advanced Training ability? Was this a New Game+? (assuming so since you said it replaced Reave, which I'm pretty sure you didn't carry over from ME1 =P). So essentially NG+ just allows you to pick the skill rather than wait to research it.
Ooh and Dr. Chakwas fat thighs clip through her chair.
Lawls.
When you finish a conversation with Chakwas and she turns away from you.. that dead expression on her face, those empty eyes. Holy shit is it creepy, major uncanny valley.
A small dose of Grand Theft Auto philosophy seems like the next step for Mass Effect. Keep what makes ME2 strong but add GTA type stuff that would make sense, like someone said earlier. Vehicles, ship customization, more armor/outfits, etc.
Also, this might take too much PC horsepower, but walking around on the streets of Illium or something would be the ultimate world immersion type-thing.
personally I'm a fan of the ammo system. It also just feels realistic. Everyone should keep in mind that its not "ammo" but as you mentioned the heat sync catridges. The reason it takes 1 per shot with most snipers is because the sniper overheats in 1 shot... just like it did in me1. Frankly, you can only realistically carry so much ammo in that one small suit. SMG cartridges would be smaller and obviously it can fire more rounds before overheating. So you get the most ammo for it. It is kind of annoying having to switch back and forth, but I LOVED sniping in the game. And going 2-3 kills before finding ammo again is fine with me.
The problem is, in ME1, you didn't "carry ammo" because of LOLSCIENCE! The explanation was that every weapon has a block of metal for ammo, and the gun simply shaves off a microparticle and accelerates it to lethal speeds, similar to the way a railgun would. There was no ammo because a block of "ammo" built into the gun would last for far more shots than the mechanical portions of the gun itself.
I liked it, because there was an explanation that fit into the mythos of the world as to why guns didn't need ammo. The new thing, where state of the art guns "Overheat" too quickly, so you use Thermal Cartridges to collect and eject that heat, feels silly. I'll happily go back to using the older guns, even if they do less damage, if it means I can stop hunting for cartridges.
Gameplay, I can get why they did it; you balance your encounters around a limited set of resources, and you force the player into relying more upon powers and squadmates. I just don't like it.
Agreed. And really, why not call it ammo? If it walks like ammo, and quacks like ammo, call it ammo. I mean shit, it says "press x to reload." I suppose it should say "Press X to eject."

How does it determine which power to remove?
Theres ONE power you can get by making team mates loyal, it is only that power which can be replaced, the rest of your stuff is intact.
If I click Main Menu, can I continue playing this character if I want to? I wanna do a new game, but I want the option of playing after the game is finished, but not at the expense of new game+.

You can do both.
Every save you make after finishing the game is counted as a save that you can import into New Game +
Just make sure to make a hard save (instead of Auto Save) of the character while you're in the post-game world.

I have been obsessing over the Hammerhead for the last few pages. It seems it is due out for release in a couple weeks from release. Lets hope it is out in February. I'd love to get some vehicular exploration.

So, you get one bonus power, period. That's good to know. I grabbed the Incendiary Grenade when the training came up, because it was the only Loyalty Power available, but the description on the research made it sound like you could gain as many powers as you wanted using it, rather than it replacing the same power slot over and over.

You can do both. You can load your clear save and cruise the galaxy post end game or you can hit New Game and select "Import ME2 Character."

Yeah, me too, but the final score isn't really bad at all.
When I saw Hudson's name, I knew it was time to cream my pants.
If your character uses Biotcs the only right answer when it comes to bonus powers is Warp Ammo. Shit is amazing.
I'm a Soldier. How's Warp Ammo compared to Incendiary?
I prefer Warp to Incendiary. Incendiary does wonders on armor and has a chance to stun enemies, but the extra damage only affects health and does damage over time. Warp Ammo is a strait up damage increase that effects the health of both organics and synthetics as well as cutting through Barriers like butter. It also increases you damage against a target that is effected by a biotic power (when their bodies are kinda glowing) so for example you can have Thane use Area Lift and absolutely decimate your targets ala Grunt in the cinematic trailer.

FUCKING WHY DIDN'T I TAKE THIS WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
The only real gripe I have with ME2 is that the pacing of the story seems a little off. It starts fast, with the whole waking up/fleeing/ohnohumancolonies, then slows down while you round up squadmembers.
I thought that the initial trip to the
collector ship
would start more of an extended run toward the endgame, but no, you just go back to rounding up squadmembers. As awesome as the ending was, I thought it was sort of abrupt.
Frankly, thats how almost every Bioware games goes down. (NWN, KoToR, JE, ME, DA)
First you have your Introduction area, then:
1. Pick a few locations to visit.
2. Midgame interlude mission.
3. Pick another few locations to visit.
4. Endgame
They really need to shake it up a bit some day,
The first one you could really just do major story mission after major story mission and complete the game. The second one seems more disjoint with a shorter actual story:
colony being attacked
liara
benezia
thorian
virmire
ilos
endgame
I guess there isn't really a difference in the amount of main plot content but the first one seemed like it was a more cohesive narrative.
That said, I think ME2 is the better game and I love all the recruitment / loyalty quests. I just wish that building your team was part one, to be followed by an awesome part 2 of several big missions in collector space spent kicking ass and taking names.
Especially if the whole "squad members dying" thing took place gradually, so you could run around the normandy between missions and talk to your people to see how they are dealing with things. Maybe write some in as badly injured so you'd actually see Dr. Chakwas do something in the giant medical bay you have, etc.

I just finally maxed out Charge to become Heavy Charge. I hope that Blue Suns merc likes waterfalls. Because that's where he's going to be resting when he finally lands.
Loyalty mission spoiler for Zaeed:
Also side-point, if you save the scientist/researchers/engineers/whatever they are on Zaeed's loyalty mission, aka the Paragon choice, does it cost you his loyalty?

Yes, but you need to get the loyalty of that squad member back in the new game.
So if you want the final mandatory member's power, you have to wait until just about the end of the game.
