Just beat this. Pretty spectacular, though I have a few rambling questions if anyone wants to discuss
Nobody died on the mission, and Shepherd made it. I assume that's because I did all loyalty missions and got the Normandy upgrades, but I'm curious about how you lose team members. Is it by choosing unsuitable people for the various squad choices in the end?
Human-Reaper Embryo. What the hell was that, it was like fighting a 30 story tall Terminator baby. It was a little ridiculous, but mostly I just didn't understand what it was and the game didn't do a very good job of explaining. Interesting though.
The implication seems to be that
Every time the galaxy gets consumed by the reapers, they (somehow) build the collective conscious of whatever race they find worthy into a new reaper. The protheans apparently didn't make the cut though, so they got re-purposed into cyborg dudes who run the reaperfactory.
I don't entirely understand the human frame, though, since all the other reapers are that squiddy shape

Yeah, that was confusing.
Especially since the squidheaded reapers do seem like the Protheans, at least judging by their Cthulhu-esque statues.

For sure.
On one run I brought Miranda to be my biotic and she failed at the very end and got Grunt killed. Though when I used Jack as my biotic instead, she went nuts at the end and raped a few collectors instead of failing like Miranda. So who you choose matters a lot.

I have not used any of my DLC armors because of the helmet issue.
Kind of a bummer really.
The helmet issue being that you can't remove them? Because I totally agree if that's it. Also, the fact that you can't change the colour of the DLC armour makes me sad.
I did mouthbreather helmet -> visor -> recon which I just put on now.
Was so happy to see that as I'd just been talking to my flatmate about how awesome I thought Thane's looked
Edit: Another related Q: The recon armour has those big eyes on it, and there are those lights on your back. I'm a paragon through and through, had it maxed out since about 60% done, and those eyes and lights are blue. If I go renegade with my other character, are those lights red?
Sovereign, in comparison, was absolutely massive, bigger than a dreadnought (they're over a kilometer long) and something you could see towering on the horizon in the game itself, and it could carry an army of Geth along with it.
The terminator was big, but not nearly that big. Perhaps it was just an internal part of what would become the full human reaper
Because really, it just stands out too much from the others. The others have varying designs, but they're still similiar. Why would they suddenly build a whole new form after millions of years of reaping?
Dammit people I'm so torn up inside. I can't decide who to love
Just doing Talis mission decided that for me. Well, for my male Shepard anyway.
The problem is i love them all! But it's too dangerous to love Tali! Our love must remain unrequited! Man this sucks. I am going to have to do some many playthroughs of ME3

the human reaper was going to be a pirate ship, and that skeleton would hang from the prow

The most obvious answer is that the reapers spent a lot of time messing around with squid-based life forms.

I did not manage to get with Miranda after Jack though
But yeah if you just want to see the romance bits you can do that without starting a new game if you play it smart

Ok let me clear up the whole Reaper thing:
THIS TELLS YOU HOW THE REAPERS WORK
The Reapers harvest the Galaxy every 50000 years. They choose one race they deem worthy and melt them all into bio goo. They then put this goo into a PILOT. That pilot is basically a giant representation of the chosen race, kind of a monument so their image shall not go lost after they turned into goo. That pilot is then put and hooked up into one of those giant Reaper ships. You know the ones that look exactly like Sovereign? Every one of them has a pilot inside, so if you opened them up you could see giant "robot statues" of all the "ascended" races. We never saw what Sovereign really looked like,we just saw his ship.

That's pretty much it.
They don't all look like Sovereign. They all have variations in their design which is neat
So just finished this finally. This is probably a dumb question, but I was wondering if I choose to continue, I can still do the new game+ right? Do I have to do anything special? Cause I want to see what my squad has to say after the ending.
Just beat this. Pretty spectacular, though I have a few rambling questions if anyone wants to discuss

Yes. Loyalty and performance also seem to affect it. When you need to choose a tech specialist for the vents, you need to choose one that is loyal and is devoted to tech, like Tali or Legion. For your squad leaders, you need to pick good leader types. Miranda, Garrus, or Jacob.
I don't know about the crew escort choice, but I guess you just need a loyal fighter since Thane succeeded. Not too sure on that one though.
How do you know if you chose a bad leader ? Well, I noticed on the second split up where you need the biotic shield (which I used Samara for, since she is the most biotically inclined), I had Tali as my squad leader. As I was rushing through the stage to the door, Tali would radio over stuff like "there's a lot of them. ugh" or "Taking heavy fire!". She ended up dying from a gunshot wound.
With Garrus as your squad leader, he radio's you and is like "YEE HAW. ANOTHER ONE DOWN." So when you reach the door, even though he gets shot, he just sorta stands up and walks off like nothing happened. o_ 0 If Garrus wasn't loyal, you would have had to switch him out with a loyal leader type, like Miranda or Jacob.
So a summary:
For each upgrade you get, one less person dies.
You need to select a good assassin I guess(?) to escort the crew back to the Normandy, or he dies.
You need to send a -GOOD- tech specialist into the vents, and move quickly, or that person dies.
You need to select good leaders for both squad leaders, or they could both die.
Select Samara (or Miranda) for biotic shield or she tired out and dies I guess.
Everyone above must be loyal.
You need to be lucky, or Mordin somehow dies while holding off Geth at the end. No clue how that happens.
All in all, if you put your mind to it, you can lose 9 party members. I saw a youtube video of somebody succeeding in that and after you beat the boss and board the Normandy, it shows 9 coffins (lol) and only 3 remaining crew putting away their guns at the cargo table.
Wombat from Cheap Ass Gamer posted a link to their forums on his Twitter with the Dr. Pepper codes for Mass Effect 2. Link is here if anyone is interested. I couldn't find any Dr. Pepper with the codes in my area so I was excited about this.
Awesome, thanks.

common fucking sense and a sense of what writers come up with
and yeah the ships do look different but they all share the same design.
I'm sure that over 50000 years the reapers are gonna build newer ships with better technology and not just the same thing over and over again.
Or should I say over MILLIONS of years.
So just finished this finally. This is probably a dumb question, but I was wondering if I choose to continue, I can still do the new game+ right? Do I have to do anything special? Cause I want to see what my squad has to say after the ending.
Yes. If you choose to continue you can import any save you make after that into a new game+.

Yeah i got with all of them through numerous playthroughs and saves, but I just cant decide which one i really want to be with, to carry over to Me3. Im sure ill do Me3 playthroughs for all of them, but i cant decide which one i want to be my main i guess.
I mean Tali's great and i know she just gets a cold, but there's so many other factors to it like the dna stuff, or just that she's too dedicated to the fleet to leave and the fleet wouldnt let me live there. I feel like maybe we should love each other, but just not do anything about it. Basically the "i love you but dont want to risk your health" dialogue options. Then with Miranda and Kelly, they just seem to genuinely care for shepard, and im interested to see how that will all work out when Ashley is back. I sorta get heavy into the roleplaying, putting myself into the character and i just cant figure out if im fucking kelly and miranda out of spite/backlash for Ashley or if i really love both of them

It's cool they allowed free roam after finishing it. Opens up better DLC possibilities than trying to find a save on a character you've already finished the game with to try it out. Also lets them expand some stuff post game.

I just beat it. Fantastic game. I like Bioware, but I definitely think they completely dropped the ball after the first KotOR. Mass Effect 2 redeems everything. I am really tempted to declare it the best game Bioware has ever produced, and I worship Baldur's Gate 2.
Also, thank fuck (Dragon Age spoilers)
you weren't forced to make a really shitty choice at the end. I'm still pissed off that I couldn't beat Morrigan to death with her own shoes
For me, this was as close to perfect as any game of this caliber could probably get. It's like they knew exactly what I wanted out of a sequel, and then said "dude, fuck you, that's not awesome enough". When they literally destroyed the fucking Mako during the first ten minutes of the game, I knew it was love.
