I'd like to note that the little side conversations sprinkled throughout the hub areas of the game are probably my favorite little addition. Particularly
on Tuchanka, the convo between the Krogan who thinks he's had a son made me all gooey inside.

    Reaper speculation
due to the size of the terminator and his wildly different appearance, it would make sense if he's the core of the ship rather than the ship itself

Looking at this picture, you can see a lot of variation on the reapers, but they all share the same basic theme of aquatic/insectoid appearance with a sloped back.

For all its faults, I think the greatest improvement is the physical actions of NPCs while you're conversing add the most. Everyone in ME1 did that "look right and then meander off screen", but the gestures and facial movement in ME2 really adds the best stuff.

Instead of simple sound files you've got articulated pauses, eye movements and (occasionally) gestures and body language that suggest more meaning than the audio in games can convey. E.g. "Shocking suggestion." Mordin is taken aback, "Doctor-Patient confidentialtiy a sacred trust. Would never dream..." Mordin blinks and subtly smiles before continuing, "...of mockery!" That's probably what helps the emotion (especially comedy) the most and breathes life into the characters.

With that attention to detail in conversations, sometimes you just have to ignore Sheperd leaning on a guardrail ...with his/her elbow a few inches above the actual surface.

Like I said earlier in the thread, though, there's no way of saying that the last major assimilation wasn't of a race of giant space squids. Sentient space squids that each produced tons more grey goo than a single human.

From there, it's just a matter of building reapers to the scale of the races that make them up.

Yes. If you choose to continue you can import any save you make after that into a new game+.

Thanks, I was wondering how that worked. I tell's ya, the fact that I'm excited about doing a second run shows how great a game this is. This coming from someone who doesn't usually beat single player games (no matter the genre) more then once. Especially, since I screwed up a bit at the end and...

it's also possible that the human reaper represents something completely new for the reapers, since presumably their Plan A (access citadal relay) always worked in the past and the mass human kidnappings only started recently. It's also possible that the protheans are the first "collectors," in the same way that there appears to be only one race of keepers.

I also think the reveals about the geth foreshadows the possibility that the reapers aren't as monolithic a group as has been presented up to this point.

I was thinking the same thing as far as the Geth update we got this game.

It would be quite the turnabout if the Reapers weren't a unified group, or were somehow less sinister in actual nature than we've been lead to believe to this point.

    edit: on Reaper designs.
Some of the reaper designs are based on squid (like Sovereign), others on crustaceans (like Harbringer). That's a pretty big difference from a biological standpoint, so it's hardly a repetition of the same design. Maybe they've just realized long ago that the anatomies of some creatures are more suitable for spaceships than others. Maybe each time they harvest a dominant intelligent species, they also harvest the most awesome species of aquatic critter to use as their new spaceship exterior? It just isn't mentioned, because chances are nobody notices or cares about a species of shrimp on some remote planet. Given the lack of bunny designs, maybe they pick shapes that the species they have harvested would, on the average, have considered the most frightening and awe-inspiring, just to have a slight psychological advantage.

    No One Left Behind Achievement
That's because the achievement heavily depends on who you pick. A lot of people fail it because they don't pick people who suit the job, they pick their favourite (or least favourite characters). Loyalty is a part of it, but it also heavily depends on the character you pick for the role as well. Plus I do believe there is some randomness thrown in also. For example, a non tech specialist always seems to die in the vents.
