Crysis: That Game Where You Shoot Trees

edited January 2007 in Games and Technology
Crysis was unveiled a little bit more at CES 2007, so I thought I'd make a thread to discuss this fine looking game.
IGN wrote:
A next-generation project by CryTek, makers of the dazzling FPS Far Cry. This game is running on the new CryENGINE 2 technology. The game is one of the the first announced to run on the advanced DirectX 10 architecture.

Set in 2019 after a colossal asteroid crashes to Earth, Crysis begins amidst a tense military standoff between the North Korean and United States governments for control of the impact zone. Amid rising tensions, the asteroid suddenly bursts open revealing a massive alien ship, which begins freezing vast portions of the island and altering the global weather system. The invasion of Earth has begun. Crysis features an epic three-act story of alien invasion where players are able to customize their armor and weapons in real time to confront an ever-changing enemy and a harsh, dynamic environment.
Wikipedia wrote:
Up to 32 players will be able to go head-on in Crysis multiplayer. It will be consisted of 4 different modes:

* Tactical Deathmatch
* Tactical Team Deathmatch
* Tactical Capture the Flag
* Power Struggle

The 3 modes are familiar with a twist. Tactical precedes the name due to the dynamics of customizing your suit, weapons, and ammunition. As an example in Tactical Team Deathmatch, you can either shoot down an enemy helicopter or put the pilot to sleep.

Power Struggle is an entirely new gameplay mode included in multiplayer. It will feature economics to unlock equipment such as weapons and vehicles. New research and unlocking equipment can change the balance of the game. It is designed to offer deep and evolutionary gameplay for players in a multiplayer game.

New Videos

IGN has them in many different sizes (It's the top two videos).

If you've got Insider access, I recommend the HD versions.
They're bitchin'.

EDIT: Dashui recommended I put this in the OP, and I agree with him:

This game will run on DX9 capable machines. It is not a DX10 only game. The game will look fucking fantastic on DX9 machines. Most of the current videos that have been released for Crysis, that we have been looking at, are filmed using the DX9 version of the game.

Also, just to put your minds at rest, this game won't need a brand new machine to play. It'll need a brand new machine to play on full settings. If you have an older machines, just drop the settings down.

    I wanted to make the thread. :( Damn you, Centipeed! Anyways, super excited for this game. I have an animated wallpaper for it, too. Needs more information, though, such as on the multiplayer mode. Multiplayer plays somewhat like Command and Conquer: Renegade and Battlefield 2 combined in the power struggle mode. You capture factories which allow you to buy equipment and vehicles appropriate for that factory. You earn prestige points by capturing factories and killing your enemies.

    The gameplay looks alright, nothing to bust a nut over though from what I've seen.

    The graphics are ridiculous though. Photorealism ain't too far off.

    Don't worry, they'll remove everything fun and interesting about it and turn it into a generic shooter with retarded superpowers so you can play it on 360.

    Nothing to bust a nut over? YOU CAN PUNCH PEOPLE THROUGH WALLS! Also, Centipeed, update the thread with information on the nanosuit and how you allocate energy to armor, strength, and speed. With strength at maximum, you can jump high, GRAB PEOPLE BY THE THROAT AND TOSS THEM 30FT INTO THE AIR, pick up and throw other heavy objects (the video showed him picking up a garbage bin and throwing it at a truck), and of course punch people hard (through walls).

    Graphics look incredibly, but the guy's completely blank face in the second shot is hilarious given the context. A guy in a power suit just ripped the fucking roof open and he's looking at him like 'oh hey, how's it going man?'

    I hate you because you are probably right. Far Cry on the 360 was terrible compared to the PC version. It wasn't really even the same game. But I can hope, damnit, I can hope.

    You just know there's going to be situations in Multiplayer where the really fast dude is running in tight circles around the really powerful dude, and the powerful dude is getting angry because he can't hit the fast dude, and the fast dude is just laughing.

    Also the protagonist's suit and abilities remind me of the ninja/cyborg/chameleon suits from MGS 1, 2, and 4. The pattern on the suit reminds me of the Spider-Man movie costumes.

    Spring in Australia is September isnt it? Maybe they were just fucking with you.

    Also, raise your hand if you think your PC will explode and die if you try to run this game. I think I'll hold out for the inevitable 360 version. As a matter of cost rather than preference. Because man, fuck whomever upgrades for Oblivion and Crysis.
