Some of the stashes could have been done better. A few take a lot of moving around to get the pickup command to execute, and you have to get all the items to flag it as a found stash. I think on a couple I had to shoot some items around. (This might damage gear so that it requires repair, couldn't tell.)

Yeah, a couple of stashes I just gave up on rather than trying to tease that last bottle of vodka out of its hiding place.

I am! Quiet guns, quiet geiger counter, quiet anomaly detector. The quiet geiger counter and anomaly detector I also get in Clear Sky, but the gun thing is new. SoC is fine on everything.
I don't know if it's related, but I've got a pretty non-standard sound card (M-Audio Delta 66).
edit: Fix works beautifully. I'll see if I can fit it into the megapost.
for those you you who watched my cast, I'll have it up tomorrow sometime. Getting super late here and I'm tired.
Just out of curiosity, what software are you using? I've been thinking about doing some live streams myself.
I use procaster. It seems to work pretty well, and it's lean on the resources so it won't slow games down too much. http://www.livestream.com/procaster
Edit - I had no idea the audio was jacked in Procaster. You guys should've told me! You were only getting crap from my mic apparently.
Edit - Or not. It varied for some reason. Weird.
Edit again - And you're getting audio I never intended to give =P
I think I got lucky with weapons. Found the Eliminator in a stash, then got a GP37 off a merc, upgraded the crap out of them both.
I prefer the FT 200m myself. I think it's more accurate at long range, if you go with the accuracy and flatness upgrades over the durability ones. It's also got a 4x scope.
One of the disappointing things to me about CoP was the lack of equipment I came across. In SoC I switched through multiple suits and guns but my CoP suit progression was starter>seva>military and that's it. As for guns it went starter>slightly better>some gun that I've used through completion. (Black assault rifle with a big googly scope attachment.)
SoC felt like there were more tiers of items whereas CoP seems to have shitty, slightly less shitty, and good.
Did you not like Mass Effect 2 either? This game may have less guns (though I still think it has a lot), but it has even more customization. There is a practical level of choice and variation when it comes to your combat arsenal this time, instead of there being tons of loot. Money is valuable, and you get to choose wisely what upgrades you want for which gun, and if you spend a lot on upgrades for one, you'll have to stick with that gun until you get enough money (which you earn while using the gun you just upgraded) again to upgrade a new one. It's more solid and personal than just finding a cool gun or whatever.
I dunno about that money thing.
It is far easier to get stupidly rich in CoP than in the other Stalker games, even without regularly going to harvest artefacts.
True on that. I was originally worried about modding earlier guns because of the cost involved, but I'm halfway through Yanov now (slight Bioshock 2 detour) and rocking six figures with fully upgraded weapons and armor. I usually just grab whatever stashes are in the way, and I've only gone out of my way to look for artifacts maybe three times total so far.
A warning regarding tools: the two tool-using technicians in the game have different sets of customization. If you view an item, you'll see all the possible modifications, but if you highlight some - usually the third-tier ones - often it will say that the tech can't perform that upgrade. This is particularly important if, like me, you're trying to beeline to exoskeleton: only Cardan can modify it so you can run, which is crucial.
On a related note, you have a choice at that end of the exoskeleton mod tree: ability to sprint OR + to energy regen. What the hell good is energy regen if you can't run? Fighting burers? Jumping a lot?
I prefer a unique SG550 that's fairly well hidden in the story
It's funny because when I got that, I couldn't find a damn grenade launcher attachment for it. Probably sold a couple during the game but couldn't find one before I finished.

I spent a good 15 paranoid minutes sneaking around the ranger station during a 5am lightning storm. I turned my headlamp off because the lightning actually provider better visibility whereas the lamp kinda had a tunnel vision blinding effect. Just waiting for the crap to hit the fan

I love this game.
I also love that now I can say to friends, "hey check out this game" without "but make sure to get this gigantic mod pack".

Eh, I think I prefer an actual sniper rifle at those ranges. I like the G37 for medium ranges.
I used it once for fun, though only against weak enemies so it wasn't that thrilling. I think I'd geek out more with it if you could set it up prone like a quasi-milsim game and actually suppress people with it for a purpose, but that would probably make the entire game explode.

I actually had to shoot a bunch of medkits out of a tree to get one stash.

I am really, really, really enjoying CoP. It is everything I've wanted in a STALKER game, and does the whole 'open world' thing incredibly well.
Same.
With the exception of upgrading, which is far too punishing and specific this time around. I'm thinking of getting a mod to just cut it the fuck out.

I got the tree stash also (the first map one anyway) I almost had flashbacks to one of the earlier games, CS I think, had a similar stash but instead of just shooting it out of the tree you had to go through this long path from one of the pseudo freedom bases and then make a precision jump.
Are the rare sniper rounds everyones talking about the ones the vintorez/druganov used in the earlier games? Rectangular box with a yellow band iirc.

I can't even describe what it is, exactly, that I am enjoying so much about it! Probably the realization that this is a STALKER world I have yet to explore - I logged an entirely unhealthy amount of time on SoC, particularly with OL and LURK. Also, caves. I love the little caves scattered around the place - I haven't gotten very far in the game at all because of my propensity to wander, but the caves give me the same creeped out feeling that X18 gave me in SoC - though X16 was still a terror that no game has managed to equal.
Does SoC have a bug where some stashes will show up on the minimap but be empty, and not go away when you find them? There's one stash in the Wild Territory near the helecopter inside a small building in a locker that's empty for me when I check it. I'm fairly sure there isn't another one hidden around either, unless I can somehow get onto the roof.

I'm torn because on one hand I agree with you, but I still wish it had a few mind-blowing sequences like playing the original game for the first time. They didn't raise the bar on those, but that's hard because we've seen stuff like that before. I can also live with it because tension and atmosphere made SoC great as well, which there's plenty of here.
It's now anyone's guess where GSC will take the sequel.

I'm playing CoP on veteran difficulty, instead of my usual stalker. So everything is just slightly more dangerous than I'm used to.
Health packs healing slowly is a pretty cool touch. It's already making me be much more careful than I used to.

I'm having daydreams of this game having passionate sex with ArmA 2.

What do you mean by punishing? Expensive or what? Because it's really easy to get rich quick.
I have all this money and my technician can't even do basic upgrades until I find them?
Which is random with no hints and entirely dependent on me happening to stumble across them?
Fuck that, I went and looked them up online. At least in clear sky you could travel to specialists if you wanted a certain upgrade (I stayed neutral most of the game).
you didn't have to mess about with particular guys, and for the seva I modded that so the clear sky could do it.
Somehow they got the impression making the upgrading more dependent on finding items than before is a good idea and should be taken further, even down to the basic items.
I have no idea where they got that impression from "I hate flashdrives" but there you go.
I do like having to ply him with vodka to make him capable of doing any work at all though, that is amusing.

I don't know if it's randomized or whatever, but if you keep asking people, they will tell you. I found a complete set of upgrades without having to look very long in each area.

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
The toolkits are a nice excuse to explore. Probably just need to dial down your OCD, since upgrades aren't super duper important here due to less combat (generally).
I wish someone had spoiled me which map the final toolkits were on (like people have in this thread), because I thought I was missing something but when I checked I accidentally saw which buildings they were in. It took away some of the thrill and surprise.

Don't call something so minor OCD. Wanting to collect or upgrade things is normal. Everybody has a bit of that.
You guys are being a bit defensive. It's actually okay to dislike part of a game you know. I love all the rest of it.
I didn't know you could ask people, nobody I've talked to has told me anything about them. I usually talk to everyone in a base. Who exactly told you guys about the tools? Random stalkers? I don't tend to talk to people out in the wild much.
I like exploring for the fun of exploring, being forced into things makes me resistant. I'm stubborn you see. :P

You can duck to get inside, but you cannot exit the same way.
I get stuck in there, and cannot get out.
How could this happen?

Eliminator + AK94 w/scope
Eliminator + AR15
Viper5 in .45 + AR15 w/ silencer, scopes and grenade launcher (also fully upgraded)

Headbob is about the only important one if you can't deal with it. Everything else, you ought to be able to.
Eh, I think I prefer an actual sniper rifle at those ranges. I like the G37 for medium ranges.
And it only took them three games.
Still, it's something you're willing to put up with, because STALKER's fairly unique in what it does.

I have never had an NPC tell me where to go to get the toolkits. No one knows where to find any.
Although I will say I will probably use a mod to start off with all upgrade paths during a second play through.
Keep asking. For the first tool they eventually said "Maybe you can go check out Place X", which turned out to be the right spot.
I wish someone had spoiled me which map the final toolkits were on (like people have in this thread), because I thought I was missing something but when I checked I accidentally saw which buildings they were in. It took away some of the thrill and surprise.
