    Quick question
    In Yantov
I;m mooching around the bunker in the northwest of the map and I keep getting an emergency radio broadcast, but I can't get in to look around, all the doors are locked. Also how do you get in the ventilation facility there are no doors

I should say, the one major complaint I have about the gameplay is that Call of Pripyat might possibly have the worst knife animation of any FPS ever.

This strategy doesn't always work... actually I have to ask if those things heal or what.

Bunker: wait until later, do more side quests. Ones for the
    scientists.

Vent facility: the game rewards exploration, and not everything happens inside the designated circle. Extra hint:
Look to the west near the train tracks.

I figured out the problem I was having in the endgame. I've spoilered this because you probably won't have the same issue unless you burn through the main story before fully exploring the final map. Probably safe to read if you've made it there.
If Zulu survived the trip to Pripyat, you can encounter him somewhere on that map before triggering the final sequence. There is a global autosave at the spot you encounter him that also occurs during the endgame. That's confusing because he won't spawn during the endgame.

It looks like all you get from him is
his semi-custom personal PKM with higher weight and ammo capacity
so I have to decide if I want to play the last 20 minutes again for that.

It appears there aren't many things like this you have to do before going to freeplay, but if anyone wants a know the point of no return until freeplay kicks in:
Going to the kindergarten locks you to Pripyat, and the quest after that locks you into the safe building itself.

    So I'm having a bit of trouble with helicopter...umm 5 I think?
Whichever one is in the swamp surrounded by poisonous anomalies. I found the chopper but it tells me I need to find what caused the electrical short. I assume I'm looking for a tower or power lines or something?

I don't see anything on my map though, closest thing was that antenna place where I gassed all the bloodsuckers earlier.

Hehe I guessed the same thing but in this case you have to wait for a while to figure it out. More guidance:
You will solve it indirectly during the course of the game.

Hello guys and gals, I was wondering if you could help me with a little problem with (maybe) L.U.R.K.:
I recently purchased Stalker: SoC after watching a bit of the Let's Play here. I patched it all the way, and downloaded L.U.R.K. v1.0552. I was playing it and loving it up until a few days ago, when it just started to crash to the desktop with no error, even in the log file. I restarted and that seemed to work for a day, but now I cannot get more then 20 steps before it happens again.

Heres where I'm at if it helps:

Just finished up at the Unfinished Plant in the Dark Valley, now trying to find the Lab there.

    Here is what I'm running:

    Windows XP 32 Bit
    CF'd 4850s
    Q6600

When it started I scoured Google and found nothing, tried reinstalling and it still happens. Also updated V-card drivers, to no effect. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated, I just want to get back to Stalkin'.

Do other save games work? I can't help much other than say that the Zone is powerful, and can fuck with you in ways beyond hurting your character. Worst case, uninstall and reinstall everything (saving save games) might be worth a shot.

Yeah, definitely check to see if you get crashes on previous saves or after starting a new game. Save corruption is pretty common.

I don't know if it was the unpatched version or whatever but if you look down at the ground and used the second stab animation, the one with the knife thrusting down you would occasionally start to bleed out.

I think I've spent more time in Clear Sky scrounging up whatever weapons I can to sell so I can upgrade my stuff than actually playing the game. It's especially a kick in the pants when
going to meet Fang gets you rolled by bandits who take all your gear and cash - and you can't get your cash back. I wound up reloading and trudging back to Clear Sky's base so I could upgrade my CS armor and make sure all that money didn't go to waste.
    It's still been fun, though.

    You could
just have reloaded, dumped your stuff before you went down to the basement, then triggered the mugging. They get all your cash, but you get to hunt the fuckers down with an assault rifle rather than a pistol

Boy, the path to Pripyat is a bit buggy.
One of the guys got stuck behind a door in the big room where you fight the military guys, and everyone else hung around him. Made the rest of the journey easier, I suppose. Everyone appeared to come out the other side, so I guess they only need to be alive and not necessarily with you.

I didn't get that so you must have gotten lucky with the A-life.
Did you bring the mysterious rifle? :) It was a lot of fun for that part.
I'm not sure what GSC intended anymore. From the wide-open alpha with vehicles, to the setpiece quasi-linearity of SoC, to the strategy-FPS-RPG with Call of Duty levels of shooting in CS, to the relaxed open world of CoP. Hard to say what they will produce in the sequel.

    Oh yeah, I brought it.
Brought it right into the face of the Monolith forces

    Also regards the ending/sequel
I don't think the sequel will take place in the Zone or at least not in this zone at all. Strelok pretty much says that the people he's after aren't in the zone, but are elsewhere. Plus one of the folders in the X8 mission talks about a base in Hawaii etc. I can see us moving away from Chernobyl in the future

General speculation on a sequel (not really a spoiler at all):
It's probably safe to say they will keep it in the same area just because of local pride for making a game about that region and the issue of the Chernobyl disaster. I think there's still a wealth of real-world myth they could mine out of it too (writers can do anything!) Maybe they will pull a Crytek and go all AAA by setting it somewhere fancy-yet-generic, but I think we'll be in the same area. My hope is a real seamless open game through the entire region.

Hey there. I'm a long-time lurker at Penny Arcade, mostly due to the excellent STALKER threads. Anyway, I finally decided to register because I have a problem in CoP. Well, I'm not sure if its an actual bug or if I'm not doing something right. I just want to make sure I haven't somehow broken my playthrough before I get any farther in the game and have to restart. It relates to one of the main storyline missions in the second map. I'll use spoiler tags, even though I don't really give anything away.
How do I complete the mission "investigate position b205?" I go to the exact pinpoint on the map, which is located inside a 1-story building with some zombies out front, but nothing is there and no message pops up saying I've completed the task. Is this a bug?

A few quest markers in the game require you to look around rather than stand at the exact spot, although sometimes the target is above or below you at that exact spot.
Look in the next room for a note, and read it carefully to help you with something nearby.

I think I'm ready to put CoP to bed. I spoiled the last few quests to make sure I was able to find them all, except I think I may have missed one or two due to things I did on the first map. Still 100 caches and lots of achievements to find, but I'm pretty satisfied that I've seen all the high points. Cool stuff, love all the guns and wandering around in freeplay. Time to do Mass Effect 2 though.

We should try to get a multiplayer game going sometime. There's only a few servers and they're always in Russia. Not the most exciting thing in the world but it's fun for a little while.

Wow. I just reached a point in CoP where I was searching for one of the helicopters and...
I found that it was past this huge minefield. I spent so long trying to figure out how to get through before I noticed a guy dead on a rock about three-quarters of the way through it. I noticed a metal rod in the ground next to him, and one after it, and one before it. And they made a line through the minefield towards me and the helicopter.

Following the path of those rods was so incredibly nerve-wracking, because I was just basically hoping whoever'd made that initial path had done so as, y'know, a way through the mine field. The dead guy didn't help my confidence.

Seeing stuff like that as just part of the world always makes me feel good.

With Bioshock back in the news about FOV and widescreen -vert issues, I read that CoP reduces the default FOV from 67.5 (in the other two games) to 55 here! Seems ridiculously low but I never noticed on my 4:3 CRT. There are hacks available if anyone is bothered by this, although if you can stand it then I guess it might increase the tension for you.

More than a few times in SoC I swear I heard or saw something and unloaded. Then I'd proceed to jump around corners and unload just expecting something to be there. Nothing there. Jump around next corner and unload, nothing. Repeat, repeat, repeat, until I have to pause the game and go for a walk before my heart explodes from the stress!
