My significant other used to own a full size iPod and to play it in her car she would use one of those accessories that plugs into the car and transmits the music through a specific FM channel that she would select.
Now, after a mishap with the original, she has an iPod nano. The converter she has works fine for music but it does not charge the iPod while it is plugged in. I was wondering if anyone here had any personal experience with any of the FM converters that work with an iPod nano while charging/keeping it charged.
I have a Belkin one that works well, but I don't see it on Amazon. They have some other models up now that I can't personally vouch for. I've got a nano 3rd gen I think. I ended up going back to a tape adapter though. At it's best the FM wasn't bad, but it's still worse than the tape (sound quality wise). Even with the ability to choose any frequency sometimes it was hard to find a clean channel. I have a 12v to USB that I use to charge the ipod (and my blackberry) whenever it needs it.

The problem isn't that it's a Nano, the problem is that it's more recent. The fourth generation Nano changed the pinouts slightly so older accessories don't always charge them.
Any new accessory that specifically says it works with 4th-gen Nanos or newer will charge your friend's Nano.
As for direct experience with an FM transmitter, I can't say. I use a tape deck adapter.
Feral on
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
Hey thanks guys, that basically answered all my questions. Unfortunately the only option we have is a new FM transmitter because she does not have a cassette player and her radio/cd player does not have an out for a direct plug in.
I did not know about the issues with newer generation iPods. We will keep an eye out for that when we go pick one up.
