It seems like the minor qualities, the ones with ellipses at the end (ie, Running Battle..., Seeking...) only last for the duration of a multi part storylet. For example, "Track Down a Rat of Exceptional Size and Cunning" requires you to build up Running Battle... to 5 before completing. Once you complete it, through success or through failing at the higher level option, you lose the quality.
But then there are Opportunity cards that require those qualities. So it might not be a bad idea to start one of those Storylets but not finish it for awhile. I just pulled a card that has three options with separate requirements - Watchful 20, Watchful 20 + Seeking... or Watchful 20 + Investigating...
I think I'll hold onto it for a bit until I find a storylet that will give me one of those options. Based on the text, it seems like the latter two choices will start / continue a story arc. But maybe they're just useful to build those qualities to complete the multi-part storylet a different way.
I've got a running storylet that's almost as complex as an ambition - The Melancholy Curate and His Sister. You have to raise investigating up past 10 (apparently), and there are multiple storylets in different districts, which is neat.
Is there any use for moon pearls? I've collected over a thousand of these little curiosities and don't know what to do with them. I've tried pouring them into my bathtub and bathing in them...but that felt [strike]strange[/strike] delicious after a while.

As near as I can tell you commit to one early (I believe they make each clear which traits will be important for it) and you pursue new parts to it as your stats rise. For instance, as a charming Sherlock-holmes type, I've been in hot pursuit of a legendary game of cards where you can trade your soul for your heart's desire.
Additionally, the wearing of a fancy hat is imperative to this sleuthing.

Not that I'm aware of; you can just get Menacing qualities (Scandal/Wounds/Suspicion/Nightmares) to a point where they're a real pain in the ass. Some high-risk gambles later on can cost a lot and lower your qualities. I think that's about it; nothing you can't grind your way out of.
Also, of course, nobody dies in the Neath, as such...
Do any of you delicious gentlemen know how much of a stat boost one tends to gain by turning in one's network of connections for training via opportunity cards? I'm loath to cash in my favours too soon but on the other hand don't want to hoard them for an opportunity that doesn't exist.
I've found that it's a pretty good boost. Just remember that experience doesn't spill over when you finish a level, so if you're close, you're better off gaining a level and using up your connection on a fresh one.
Okay - cards that raise skills at the cost of faction (Learn X Tricks) give 4 change points. I got the card for Actorly Tricks (Bohemian), so that's fairly low-level.
So I need 200 bottles of 1882 but I've out-leveled anything that gives me wine. Do any of you know if there's a use for the beeswax you get off of the dangerous story? I may just have to raise the 8 echos but I'm leery about what to sell now.
