I've been wanting to add an imaging process to my current backup regimen but don't want to spend money on it if possible. I've searched and found multiple free imaging software but not a lot of info about which ones are better.
Probably important info, I don't run a server so this would need to run from CD/DVD and allow me to save the image to either a external USB drive or another partition/drive on the system. I've created universal images for work using Ghost, sysprep and scripting so "advanced user" software is ok, though I'd prefer something simple.
I was recommended PartedMagic but I don't know Linux so I created the live disk and boot it up but don't know where to go from there. If someone can help me with that maybe I'd just use this app.
Ghost32 and WindowPE are awesome as all hell. I just got my usb booting properly with Windows7 PE and Ghost32 and it is fantastic.
If you're already familiar with Ghost and don't want to go down the Linux road I could probably throw up some useful instructions.
Also Clonezilla doesn't have a neat little tool to easily view/edit your images once they're made.
Let me know, I wrote up some instructions in Word, I could probably email them to you if you wanted.
When you say Ghost32 do you mean the commercial Symantec product or some freeware thing? A quick google on Ghost32 just references the execute file so I'm not sure what you mean. I can't use the Ghost software from work at home and looking it up on their site I see the price is higher then I am willing to pay.

Ghost32 is a bitching little program that is made by Symantec, but I don't think its freeware. I believe it comes with an enterprise version of Norton Ghost v8 and up. If you had access to it at work, I would suggest that as it is balls easy to use.
If you don't, then well my suggestion is pretty much useless.

I have used it to do drive to drive images many times with good, quick results.
