GLBT Friendly Meetup!

WhirlspellWhirlspell Registered User regular
edited March 2010 in PAX Archive
Earlier this week, I started a thread titled "PAX Gays?" in an effort to find out if there were any other GLBT or GLBT-friendly folk that wanted to get together for a meetup/drinkup. There was a lot of interest from a diverse group of gamers, so we decided to organize an event and set some details in stone.

Here are the details:

What: GLBTF Meetup/Drinkup!
Where: The Pour House, 907 Boylston St. (directly across from the Hynes)
When: Friday, March 26, 9pm
Who: Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, or GLBT allies! Gay Gamer pride!
Why: Because let's be honest - gay gamers aren't so easy to find. It will be nice to sit down together in a group, knock back a beer (or 5 or 8) and chat. I know I'll be heading to the concerts afterwords (Frontalot is that night), so if anyone wants to join me and go jam at the concert together, that'd be great!

If anyone sees a problem with any of these details, please let me know :)

Edit: I don't know the time or location yet, but GayGamer.net is confirmed to have another panel at this year's PAX East. It is titled "Forcing Your Way In & Coming Out On Top: The Game Industry in Rainbow Color", which I think is completely brilliant. Perhaps this meetup will kick off some friendships, and we can all hang out together at both the Friday night concerts (after this meetup), as well as the Gay Gamer panel.

This might be something I'd be interested in attending, though I'll have to see what concerts are going down. If it's done I'll bring some copies of the YA GLBTQ booklist I'm working on to see if anyone wants to give input.

Unless someone else wants to step up, I'd love to organize something for PAX Prime, as well. So you can definitely count on it!

Hey folks, I meant to post this in the other thread, but didn't get to it in time. I would like to cordially invite all of you to our Gamers Gone Wild Party at Lir (directly across the street from the Hynes and PAXEast) on Saturday night, the 27th. We would love to have our GLBTF brothers and sisters join the party!

Check out the link below for preliminary information and updates.

This acronym is perhaps getting out of control! Haha.. I already have people occasionally correct me when I just say "GLBT", then it was "GLBTQ", then it was "GLBTQF", and now it's "GLBTQOF"!!!

Moe don't hit me. Cross-posting, kind of - but related!

The gf and I are heading down to PAX early Friday morning from NYC and leaving Sunday night. We're trying to setup some hotel sharing in the other thread, but I thought I'd drop a note here too.

We'd prefer to share our room either with another couple and/or some kiddos from the BGLQT crowd.

Need space / have space - let's set something up!

Everyone else, see you at the Friday night meetup.

This is the only bar event I see planned anywhere for PAX, I think everyone should come to this party. The "F" part is going to turn it into PAX's #1 drinking event.

The only bar event? Did you miss the Pokemon themed pub crawl? Not to mention the inevitable industry parties.

Not that people shouldn't go to this, I'm just saying, there's more than one bar event on this board.

That Pokecrawl thing is a daunting 200 man cross country walkabout with a OP that is essentially the House of Leaves of the PA forums.

This one is a nice "Go across the street, have a beer" thing, which is a lot easier to handle.

You're assuming too much. If you look in Google Maps you'll notice there are TONS of bars within .5 miles of the convention center. The pubcrawl is only going to like 5-7 bars.

But, as of right now these are the only two bar events. Wait till it gets closer to PAX and tons of things will spring up. I'm sure you can go to the bars at anytime and find fellow PAXers drinking.

It wasn't that daunting really. The longest walk from one bar to the next was like 10-15 minutes. It's also the most amazing thing ever.

For real. Walking 15 mins by yourself is one thing but walking 15 mins when you're tipsy with a large group of PAXers has got to be a unique experience. I bet the walk would feel like it only took 5 mins or like you just walked next door.

But the Boston pubs are clustered.

So glad to see that this is still a hot topic! And that new people are joining in on the conversation :rotate:

As we get closer to PAX, I'll make a few calls to the Pour House to give them a heads up to expect a group. I'll be trying to get a rough head-count, so please check back here every once in while to confirm that you're still going to make it!

Also, on an unrelated note: Is anyone else staying at the YMCA? That's where I'll be heading back to after the concert.

This is THE event to be at on Friday night.

At this point nothing is even going to compare.

So how will PAers identify themselves to each other? Will there be a sign we can throw up or will someone be cosplaying that we should all congregate around?

I love the idea of a PAX gang sign. Straight hardcore, yo. But realistically, I don't think it'd be hard to find one another....

As some others have said, I'll have to see what's going down with the concerts - I'm a music whore, what can I say? - but if it doesn't conflict too egregiously, I'd love to stop in. I was just thinking at work today that a gay gamer meetup would be cool.
