Ok, Nibris, the developer focusing on DS and Wii (iirc, famous for indeed being one of the first developers to announce a Wii game) has recently shown new footage of their DS game, Raid over the River, (
google video link) and just now has shown some
'media' for 'Sadness' (Wii)
They have also Announced a new DS game "Double Bloob"
Nibris have just exclusively announced to C3 a brand new game for the Nintendo DS. Called Double Bloob, this is an arcade title that is due out in the second quarter of 2006. The basic plot of the game is simple, a great nasty ‘Bloob’ has come to Earth from its home planet Bloobia to steal some ‘items’ from Earth to its trophy collection. However, the silly beggar foolishly steals Pongo the dolphin. Big mistake. Brother and sister Aen and Niua start their amazing journey to save their friend.
The game takes on a puzzle format, with players progressing after they have cleared a certain number of bloobs. Additionally, there are all sorts of obstacles standing in your way. Bloobs that bounce off walls, gravity fields that change the direction of the bloobs, inflators that pump the bloobs up to huge sizes and stoppers which halt the bloobs for a short period of time.
To mix things up a bit you will be presented with a number of different types of challenges. In some instances, you will have to destroy specific bloobs by colour, obtain a specific number of points, finish within a certain time or hit special bonus items.
You get all sorts of special abilities to help you in your quest:
# Dual shot - you can shoot in two different directions at the same time (limited time only)
# Antigrav - Repels bloobs from you, which in effect gives you invincibility (again, for a limited time only)
# Freeze - Stops bloobs for a second or two
# Slowdown - Slows down bloobs
# Blow - The player can blow into the microphone to keep blobs in the air (limited time)
# Shield - Limited invincibility
# Boost - Speeds the player up
# Quickshot - Gives the player a faster shot
# Double Shot - Player can shoot two harpoons instead of one
# Minigun - Replaces the harpoon with a special gun
# Friend-Bloob - Gives the player a ‘friendly’ bloob that will battle other bloobs for a few seconds.
# Laser Party - For a short time there laser beams appear, dividing and destroying the bloobs.
In addition to this, there are also some evil bonuses that slow your progress:
# Slowdown - Slows the player down
# No Shot - Blocks the player’s ability to shoot for a limited period of time
# Anti-Points - Subtracts points from total score
# Multi-Bloob - Multiplies the number of bloobs
Nibris are also promising a number of special types of bloob in the game. While being destroyed of split, bloobs evolve into different forms, either randomly or in a set order. You will encounter bonus bloobs (contain bonus items), vanishing bloobs, rotating bloobs, speedy bloobs, sticky bloobs that combine together into one huge bloob, rock-hard bloobs and robot bloobs which deliberately hit you.
The game is split up into three main modes. Quest Mode is split up into ten different worlds, each containing ten levels. Each level has a time limit with the last level of each world being a big evil boss stage. Point Attack allows you to play on any previously unlocked levels. Bloobs appear faster and faster as you attempt to destroy them; basically, his is a high score mode. Time Attack completes the trio and does exactly what it says on the tin.
Graphically the game is 2D with 3D characters a bloobs. The backgrounds are animated and built of several different layers. The control system is split into two different modes. You can either use the buttons or you can use the touch screen.
We’ll hopefully have loads more information on this game very soon, but for now enjoy these exclusive screenshots.
Screenshots -
A member of the Cubed3 forum, named simply 'nibris' who reportedly works for nibris, has been posting in a
thread, answering questions and such.
Here are some extracts of what they have said -
It's only tech demo
we just ask to know what we should change - this is game for gamers - so we have to know what gamers think
Did you notice that both screens are in 3d?
Thanks for your all opinions
That is very firstly version, we are farther now but we can't show you it yet.
About Sadness - our PR decide to not publishing any screens or any news about this game. One thing I can tell is that we are working very hard at Sadness and game will be AAA title.
We are also working for another DS IP - Double Bloob.
We will finishe this game before June 2007.
This screens are from tech demo - what are you thinking about this game?

showing the image which is clearly not a screen, but they are polish so could be translation error.
Yes. ROTR Wii have Q3 2008. And yes - there will be link beetwen both version but ROTR Wii will be more like sequel of ROTR DS.
Well, I don't know what to think. The new game looks like a simple flash type game, the type of thing I beleive any independant developer is capable of, or infact could just be a photoshops. They are very good at announcing things, and making big promises, but we have sene very few results so far. They claim to be in the next issue of GameInformer, I've heard of this before, is it a mag?

I don't know why but that promo shot makes me want to play this "Sadness" game really bad.
No. They aren't.
They have said before that they are just a couple of Polish guys working out of their homes. It is becoming pretty evident that neither one of them can code. They are pretty good with Photoshop, though.
They are doing something
By the way, blockbuster novel coming up guys, here's a sentence of what I'm working on:
It was a dark and stormy night.
AAA Book.
That's disappointing.
"couple" meaning "over a dozen" in this particular context.
And they have DS devkits.
It's pretty good if they have attracted more staff then. Back when they announced Raid Over the River, they stated that they only had a couple of developers.
Still, they need to stop making release date announcements. I finally lost patience with them when they announced that Raid Over the River would be playable at E3 and they didn't even show up.
Man, even assuming these guys CAN make the game into everything I hope for, that's pretty much an impossibility. Seriously, NO screens or gameplay videos? Gaming publicity devours those things as fuel, which is even MORE true for such no namers.
I want this game to rule, because I love the concept. But I'm starting to get a serious vaporware feel from these guys.
What money?
The only people they could be scamming are the other polish developer they got their DS devkits from, and the publisher, who probably would know if they were developing games or not.
Nintendo has licensed them as an official developer, they've released gameplay videos. What more do you want from them?
hrpoooon
We are moved to tears by the sadness of the thing.
And yet you are not moved to laughter by the Double Boo--Bloobs?
I was attempting to make a sarcastic observation vis a vis Nibris' operations, and then answer a direct question. I shall endeavor to rein in the emotional content of my posts in the future.
I was pretty impressed by the idea of a River Raid remake, and followed Nibris pretty closely when they first announced it. The screenshots they released looked pretty good for a game still in development, and they said that they were well on the way to finishing the game.
Then someone pointed out that the screenshots were just shots of Age of Empires 3 terrain, with some sprite images of aircrafts photoshopped over the top. I don't like being fooled, so I was annoyed.
It became clear that they weren't as far along as they claimed, but fair enough. I still had hope.
Then they started sending out news release after news release, with grandiose claims about Raid Over the River. They had no content other than some new photoshopped screens. They started spamming several forums with hype at the same time.
Their worst bit of spamming was on a recorded interview with Miyamoto in the UK. Fans could submit questions. One of the questions asked Miyamoto whether he was looking forward to working with Nibris on their new projects. He looked confused, and just gave a generic answer that Nintendo were looking to support all small developers.
Spamming an interview with Miyamoto is bad form.
Then they released details of their next game. Sadness. They promised gameplay footage, but released a live-action trailer of a woman waving a TV remote at a TV. Everybody laughed. So they tried to build up their credibility by claiming that they had a 600-page script for Sadness, and it was so good that a major movie company was buying the rights for millions of dollars. They couldn't tell us more details, but promised that they would be coming soon. They never did.
When they didn't show up at E3 after claiming that they would be there with a playable version of Raid Over the River, I just wrote them off as another group of con-artists. Yet there are still news sites listing Sadness as "one of the most anticipated games of 2007", and treating them as a credible outfit.
You conveniently (ie. entirely) ignore the fact that they said they were shifting development for RotR to DS from the Wii, and the fact that there was real gameplay footage of that game shortly after e3 that looks very good.
This business with Sadness is shady, but the fact that they have footage and a publisher for RotR should give them a little credit. And since that Miyamoto interview, Nintendo has officially licensed Nibris as a developer for the DS and Wii.
As far as I can recall, they have always said that they would develop Raid Over the River for both the DS and the Wii, and the only gameplay footage I have seen is the 30 second clip that was released a few days ago.
And they will get a cease and desist order from Activision as soon as it is released anyway, no matter which version launches first.
Nibris has said that they are still developing RotR for the DS, and are making a 'sequel' of sorts for the Wii.
They have released 3 videos:
One video was an 8 second clip of sparse 'gameplay'
The second was a 'trailer' that was what appeared to be the intro to the game, and a few seconds of similar-looking gameplay from the 8 second clip.
The third was an extremely short clip of a few seconds, showing again very similar 'gameplay' as the first two clips.
When I say 'gameplay,' I'm talking about basic, basic stuff; a ship flying over a river and shooting at maybe 4 or 5 enemies tops.
It seems as though they're working on RotR, but they certainly haven't made it very clear that there isn't anything beyond tech demo stuff that your average CS major could do in his spare time over the course of 2 months.
