They're still not completely over but it's been established.
Wolverine will be in NY running the school. She'll be in San Fran doing her thing.
But forget about all of that. I'm more interested in his current teamup with Gorilla Man and it looks like Fat Cobra is joining them next issue as they battle more in the Chinatown underground.
They didn't break up, but the groundwork for a breakup has been laid.

That's Logan's life. Greg Rucka crystallized the idea for me when he had a running trope during his time on the title: whenever Logan was about to get a slice of pie (he loves the pie!) something would go horribly wrong.
"Well, [Wolverine] is trying to eat a piece of pie in a diner, and he's getting hassled. Darick [Robertson, the new Wolverine artist] and I have come up with the grand theory of [Wolverine] and pie. if you look at Origin, and figure what was an easy, good dessert of that era, it was homemade pie. Nothing is going to make Logan happier on a real simple level, or that's going to bring a little smile to that that grizzled face than a piece of pie and a cup of coffee.
"So we've decided that he will never, ever get a chance to have a piece of pie. He may try, but if you see Logan sitting down to enjoy some pie, you know it's about to hit the fan. Logan likes pie. There's nothing wrong with that. Here's a guy who kills people with his claws, but he likes pie."
Kid Gladiator was great. He's the perfect rival for Quire, too.
Both are powerful and both are punk assholes.

I thought WatX was hit and miss. I see good things there but there's a sense that Aaron is trying too hard in some areas to mimic Morrison and it's not working. And Bachalo needs to stop coloring his own work, he makes it a bit too dark, goes outside the lines a bit and there's this weird haze like thing that he seems to create where it blurs the art or is basically layered on top. For instance there's a scene with Kitty being in the middle of the page but it looks like Bachalo layered the pink skintone over the black inks instead of going around the inks, it's something that stands out compared to other colorists in the industry. I could also do without Wolverine trying to be the hip dean by wearing sneakers with a suit. Did he play bass with the Pretenders too?
I mean, if you're going with the idea of opening up the school again, you can do better than trying to defeat that very notion in the first issue. And unless the comic pulls some stupid Accepted type ending to the arc boom, end of the line, man, end of the line!
The scene with Wolverine and Kilgore seemed really dumb and trying to address Schism just to let Wolverine know who his real enemy is (which on its own is kind of dumb for such a wunderkind), but at the same time for Wolverine being abloo abloo about kids killing, even if he was joking to sic the kids on Kilgore, it doesn't work.
Mutant literature as a class? This is one of those things where I get the idea behind it, but there is so very little to use as the catalyst for a class about mutant literature when it's never really brought up. The most I can think of is in Ultimate X-Men when Magneto was trying to create a new mutant language. Like I mentioned it's one of those things where Aaron is trying to copy a bit of Morrison's
Idie still comes across as retarded, especially with the art and her little blank stare slight smile thing.
And the inspectors, who we're supposed to be boo-hiss about because they're drawn to be elitist old fuddy duddies, kind of prove why the school, as it exists, is a bad idea. Kitty just gets destroyed by admitting she hasn't really completed anything, Hank is back to being a wacky inventor who might be in denial about killing thousands of people recently and can't be bothered to win over the inspectors (felt like a worn out Doc Brown impersonation)
Poor Toad though, he seemed genuinely sympathetic instead of being the funny freak, Wolverine's a jerk. The little Brood guy is also interesting, although you can't trust the Brood, they'll impregnate you any chance they can. Thought Bobby would get some more time but nope, which stunk.
I mean, the book still gets another shot because I can see what Aaron is trying to do, it's just very cluttered. It could have focused more on the school first instead of trying to lead into some action, because that's the card you chose to deal with. Uncanny would be the action book, WatX is the more grounded school oriented book, and if you want something else there's 20 other X-Men books to fill the gap.
I do hope we get an Uncanny version of this little layout, I really liked this:
Woot thank you blank, I loved this page too, and scanner still being a jerk so I just wrote a couple in the Motw, but was impossible to just choose a couple.
Yeah, WatXM was fantastic. All the supporting characters' personalities feel like they're cranked up to 11, but for an introductory issue, it works. And Bachalo's are is pretty great throughout.
I really liked the way he used tone dots and flat, "cool" colors, to push focus away from foreground objects. I also enjoyed Aaron's method of expanding the student body outside the limited pool of teenage mutants, by creating new characters that, while not mutants, still have some history with the X-Men.
Also, the teased flag football game with Avengers Academy, and field trip to The Raft, need to happen.
Haven't been into the X-Men in awhile, I heard what WatXM would be about and I got it on a lark.
I am so happy I did. It's a wadded up ball of fun X-Men introductions. (I absolutely want to know more about Broo, intellectual non-agressive monsters are hilarious to me)
"Go down, kick ass, and set yourselves up as gods, that's our Prime Directive!"
Oh my god Fucking Wolverine and the Fucking X-Men. SO GOOOOOOOD.
It's seriously everything I wanted it to be. I don't even think I'm going to get Uncanny X-men, it seems like UXM is going to continue doing the same thing as the last couple of years, and WatXM is going back to the glory days(for me) at Xavier's.
And I still can't stop laughing at "The best there is at what we do."

Holy crap, missed that the first time, bahahaha!

Definitely enjoyed it. Bachalo's art wasn't even as distracting as it usually is; the distinct lack of various junk like stone chips and shit floating around was very refreshing.
Welcome to Miami Beach, ladies and gentlemen. Everything is cheaper than it looks.
Broo is from the Brood Astonishing X-Men arc I believe
and the Bamfs are explained in the book, Beast mentions the school is infested by interdimensional gremlins, seemingly from the same dimension Nightcrawler would teleport through

It'll never happen.
1) Cyclops gets all the ladies
2) Logan is perennially unhappy. He's the kid who builds sandcastles too close to the water.

Not anymore.

WatXM is probably my new favorite book. Best first issue I've read in a while.
It was absolutely fantastic.
Seriously, KG, Doop, Toad janitor, Bamflings. Amazing.

Dying and coming back to life is practically Jean's power (or more appropriately, it is the very definition of "Phoenix").
I think this could work out.
And this is when I am supposed to be dropping books. And when I'm unemployed again.
I am totally fucked.
I'm only halfway through and each page is its own individual glorious treasure
so good
so good
Might be my favorite part
also "Fighting Without Fighting" "Fighting With Fighting"
if the rest of this series is anything like the first issue it is going to be fantastic
also the issue title was really fun: Welcome to the X-Men! NOW DIE.
That's the coloring. If you look at the copy and sound effects they are a lot clearer than the art.
Deadpool needs to sue Logan because that JG logo looks a lot like Deadpool's little logo. There's an issue for you right there Way!
Oh, no, I don't mean the colouring - I think Bachalo's colouring was fine. I meant my fingers ended up with ink on them.
Woot thank you blank, I loved this page too, and scanner still being a jerk so I just wrote a couple in the Motw, but was impossible to just choose a couple.
it even uses my 3 favorite X-Men

Please take my advice.
it is just bound to happen

The "Let's All Clean Up After Ourselves" Club with Custodian Toad was probably my favorite gag
I am kinda bummed dazzler isn't on logan's side
I wanna see her teach a class
it will be amazing and poignant
