My mom drove my car and left the lights on, thanks mom. Sigh, anyway, a friend is coming over tonight to give me a jump. How long should I let my engine run to make sure the battery has been sufficiently recharged? I need to go to work tomorrow morning and would rather not deal with this again.

You should be ok if you drive it around for about 30 minutes.

Completely accurate, and the driving around is key - you can't just let it sit running in the driveway for a half hour

You could also go buy a battery charger and leave it for ~4 hours.

I would say have your Mom drive it around for 30 minutes, but we know how that ended last time.
Your vehicle might very well charge the battery while it idles - it depends on idling speed, what kind of alternator, what kind of battery, etc.
But driving it around is the only real way of guaranteeing you'll get it charged. Now, depending on what your car is like, and what kind of temperatures it is where you live, etc., you might be able to get away with only driving for 10-15 minutes. It won't charge the battery all that much, but it -may- be enough to get you through until tomorrow or something, when you can let it run (or charge it with a charger) properly.
