So I reinstalled counter strike and TF2 for nostalgia sake, but nothing seems to want to launch. CS simply says it's preparing to launch in steam, then closes and nothing happens. TF2 launches in a tiny box, gets up to where it says "powered by steam" just after it makes the HL noise, then it closes on itself.
I've played both these games with no problems on this same laptop. The only difference now is that I'm running a trial version of Windows 7. Nothing is pirated, all is legitimate etc.
So do neither of these games run on windows 7? I've done a google search several times with no luck. Also I tried typing the whole -autoconfig thing in the launch options. Has anyone run into this sort of issue before?
No that's not it, I just gave it a try. It's not that it's slow, it's that it simply closes within about 3 seconds of opening in a minimized window. What on earth is happening here?
I had this problem, hopefully you will be able to use the same solution.
Do you have an antivirus/firewall? Turn it off and try it out a Steam game again. It could be that your security programs haven't 'learned' that Steam is a safe program since you have a new OS installed. For me, Comodo was blocking Half Life on Windows 7, so I switched it to its learning mode, reopened Half Life so the game was made a trusted program, switched back to normal security, and never had problems since (had to repeat for each Steam game).
Hey, that sounds like it was probably the problem, samsam7! In the end I actually just uninstalled steam and the games. But I'll give it a go if I feel like I want to play in the holidays or something.. Thanks for your time, guys!
