Xbox Live subscription regional?

I want to buy my brother an xbox live subscription but I'm in the US and he's in the UK. If I buy a 13-month card over here and send it to him, will it work in the UK?

    Yes, gold time codes are not region locked

    edit: in fact if you want it make it go faster, just email him the code

    I know the MS points cards are region locked...not sure about subscription cards.

    Points are region locked, gold time codes are not
